For some reason, I cannot connect to Amia A. The connection keeps timing out and it shows up as offline on my favorites list.

No problems connecting to B. Have already restarted my internet connection as well as my PC.

I have the feeling this has something to do with GameSpy. A week ago somebody had similar issues. Try Direct Connect?

This happens to me regularly, or at least used to happen when I was playing. Not sure what it is but if you keep trying it will work eventually. Restarting computer works as well, as has been suggested.

The main difference between A and B is the size of the module. Maybe I should move a few more areas to B and see if that helps. Probably it's the amount of players, though.

I don't think it's such a big inconvenience that it would require moving areas. And yep, only happened to me at peak hours.

This has happened to me many times, and can be self fixed by logging into B and porting to a node in A or transitioning to A.

I have a 100 percent success rate with it

I got tired of trying last night and went to bed. Haven't tried it since I woke back up but will in a couple hours probably.

Thanks for the replies. And moving areas to B might not be such a bad idea. Especially higher-traffic areas.

EDIT: Tried to log in and it worked fine. Idk what was going on. As far as area swapping, Tarkuul especially might make a good choice for swapping over to B. It's becoming an increasingly high traffic area and it is already an "island" of its own that you teleport to, much like the other transitions that take you to B.

Also, I'm not sure how out-of-context it would be for Amia, but to celebrate the release of the new HAK, it might be really cool to add in another huge area of trade and such on B such as Luskan or Waterdeep and surrounding areas. I'd be happy to help with such an undertaking if it was in the fold honestly. I think it would be a very cool addition to the server and help bring even more traffic to B.

To expand on that. Those areas are overused and they inhibit creativity. You cannot just invent what's there, since it's discussed in exhaustive detail, and both Luskan and Waterdeep are massive cities. I just think, overall, that it's a bad idea. I wouldn't mind seeing expansive detail going into Amia, but certainly not in that direction. There are many areas of the mainland not so very well described (which I believe is done with Chillywyck) that are good to expand into, such as maybe a town on the edge of the Shaan, or near the Great Rift or even in the middle of the Endless Wastes, but the Sword Coast and environs are just so overused.

Well, that, and the fact that doing anything outside of Amia and its immediate surroundings is likely to require the constant supervision of a DM. Sorta like keeping us in our own little bit of pond.

Like you said, the lore on those places is extensive. Extensive to the point where its known that the average guards and armyfolk of the nation are lowbie level PCs. Theoretically, a lone epic should/could take out half of the city like Waterdeep without breaking a sweat, have more gold than all of the noble houses combined, and got more magic at his whim than Halaster. And that'd make problems with suspestion of belief with so many people playing adventurers, to say the least. :)

Those places are scaled accordingly upon visiting them.

@Yurell: Your wrong. With the exception of maybe waterdeep in one module, I've yet to see an extensive remaking of either of those cities in a game. Infact, Luskan as never been portrayed to my knowledge, except in singleplayer.

I'm sorry, I can't recall ever specifying 'overused in this game'.

I'd be sad to see them IG, it would ruin my visions, but it would be cool to have them nontheless, if it wouldn't be completely strange.

You did specify it being overused in general however. Given your relating it to this game, it would be fair to assume you meant "in this game". As saying it's overused in PnP adventures or books would be just stupid since that would mean your assuming everyone who plays Amia reads the books and plays the PnP games, which is certaintly not the case. In no other formats has either city really been extensively recreated. Not in NWN 2, Baldurs Gate Series, Planescape tormat, or any other game released around the FR series. Though NWN 2 may have it since I know that one server was planning to do it, wither they did it however is a matter of installing NWN2 and checking, which I probably won't do.

@Sylfwe: Now that I can understand.

We're not doing canon cities because then people can tell us how to play our NPCs and we as a DM team generally don't like that. It's also why you'll never see the canon personalities like Elminster, Halaster, etc, with very very rare exception. I can think of two exceptions: The Simbul has visited Amia, and characters have had written contact, though not personal contact, with Fzoul Chembryl.

In all honesty, I rather it this way.

Just keep us from the places/people we're not really supposed to "change" rather than "scale" them up and ruin the utter awesomeness that being an adventurer of any level entails.

One question though: The Simbul came to Amia.... Why is it still in one piece?

Bumping this for a bit of help.

As with the OP, I've had trouble with one of the servers all day. Earlier, I was able to log in on A with no trouble at all, play, no lag, good times! However, I couldn't get to B. Not by boat, node or relogging.

So now, tonight, I was able to log in on B, but not A by any means.

Earlier, B didn't show up in History or Favorites, but it was on the Servers list.

Tonight, same thing for A.

Right now, neither show up anywhere but the Server list, and it won't let me log in, timing out constantly.

Gamespy's been timing out at login all day as well. Rebooted the computer a few times, closed down the game several times, tried DC, tried desktop shortcut.

Anyone?

Crap. The motherbastard is doing it again. Was able to login fine today, Gayspy didn't bother me, good times! Now, I just logged off B, and it say Gamespy can't connect, etc. No A-mia for me. :?

Switch from Bmia to Amia?

Via transportation?

Newp, doesn't work. I just unplugged my connection, replugged it, and it looks like I can back on whichever one I want now. So I'm wrestling with either logging on to one of them, and trying to get into the other to check if it worked, or just logging in on A, and staying there forever and ever.

EDIT: Success! ...For now, at least. I'm not holding my breath.

It keeps happening with both servers for me. I lag out and then can't connect back to the server. Seems to happen randomly. Four times today though. Three times on B. Once on A.

Shows up in main list, offline on Favorites.

Only thing that fixes it is a PC restart. It's getting quite bothersome. Any other solutions for this?

I'm having this issue yet again. Rebooting doesn't work, so I'm in deep shizzle.

EDIT: And I can still log into every other server on the list without trouble at all.
