If a Fey has no organs how can she get pregnant?
Isnt fey born by magic and such, and the only organ they have is a heart. How are they possibly able to carry a child?

I don't know why they wouldn't have organs. They certainly look humanoid, and satyrs are known for their sex drive.

According to the lore on the lore page and the lore of the same source I am basing my faerie, they only have blood and heart.
They are made of pieces of soul if I am not mistaken by magic. So, I guess that if a faerie wants to get pregnant, she would enchant her body in a certain way to conceive the child...
Just making sure I understand the lore behind it in order to rp my faerie, even though she won't get pregnant as far as I know..

Eh, I wouldn't read too much into it. It's garbage lore for a big part, but we just don't have anything else to go by.
I wish they weren't playable at all, but alas. We just have to make do and pretend it makes some sense.

They lay eggs *nod nods* like lizards.
...seriously though, despite the fact Bubbles herself was conceived and born, I did nix the idea of her actually having a child herself b/c I didn't want it to get weirder than it already was--something I expect thanks for, considering how weird it already is.
My 2 cents; but my fav answer was Tormak's:
Magic!

According to the Complete Guide to Fey, it's not so much getting 'pregnant' per-se as creating another fey:
Quote: They (male or female) may mate with mortals, drawing on their unbound life energies to create progeny. Fey created in this way show no physical signs of their mortal parent, though a bit of the mortal’s emotional tendencies and attitudes will carry over. The mortal supplies the clay and the fey supplies the design. Fey born of a human mother will always be the same type of creature as the father.
So, pretty much what Tormak said - they do it by magic. Especially since fey do not have fully-functioning bodies insofar as their internal organs are quite simply unable to keep them alive without magic.

That is the book we all follow here and the same Iron calls Garbage.
But, the question for me was more the dynamics of it.. Prolly they create a magic womb? Somewhere in the book it says that it is the faerie choice to have children and they can even choose the gender. But, I wasn't sure if they go into pregnancy, or just create another fey from nothing. If they go thru pregnancy, then they would have made a magical womb to carry it, since a faerie has only heart and blood.
Liss born from the essence of music, that is her cynosure. I wonder if a faerie born from a magical womb would also have a cynosure... Prolly, umm?

It's the only source I know of for the information ... if Iron knows a better, I know I'd have a look at it.

Fey are very fragile, which is why they need to be bound to a Cynosphere. So they are made by magic basically

I don't think they get pregnant so much as 'have a child'. They likely know they are, but I doubt that there's a mini-fey growing inside of them.

If they don't have any other working organs, where do they need a heart? I mean... it all kind of makes it useless.

They don't have a heart per se, more of a central focus of their life energy, if that makes any sense.

And can vary from anything to a beautiful multicolored pearl, to a lump of coal and so on. Whatever it's appearance, it's as much the soul of the fey, as it can get really, as fey don't truly have souls, but are living "spirits" or souls, I guess. It's all insanely complicated and well described in the Complete Guide to Fey. I'll see if I can find the proper parts to quote. edit: The Complete Guide to Fey, page 8-9 wrote: Every single one of the fey can be understood by keeping the following truth in mind: Fey beings are souls that have been given one last chance at existence. They are no longer part of the True Cycle of nature, and when they die, they fade away forever unless some immensely powerful being (such as Rememberers, described below) can bring them back quickly. They are not an inherently related class of creatures, so much as a state of being, a condition of the soul. Ancient gods, spirits of the land and of the sentient dead come to this state when they are left with no other option for perseverance. Incorporated into worldly vessels, their souls are bound so tightly that they cannot procreate among their own kind. They know that each day may be their last, and they strive to make it matter, one way or another. In this way, the fey are tragic creatures, even as they are creatures that revel in life. While they are for all intents immortal, “forever” is but a word. Every fey creature knows that he must eventually fade, as circumstance collides with the weight of eternity. The Complete Guide to Fey, page 9 wrote: When we examine a fey being, we notice that it appears to have been pulled, prodded, and warped, as indeed it has, though not physically. A fey’s features are an external view into its soul. The flesh that contains it is altered by the nature of the soul in many ways. Form follows the state of the soul, and the sight of a fey creature with features pulled taut is a revelation of the tenuous hold that beings that have come to this state have on existence. Fey are spirits bound into a fleshly form. They have skeletons but no naturally occurring internal organs or muscles as humans know them. They have blood of a sort, as all living things must, but they do not pump it though their systems by physical means. Instead, each has a hollow chamber within its ribcage that holds its heart, the focus of its soul. A fey heart is composed of energy, but it takes the illusory (figment) form of some symbol that represents the state of the fey’s soul. Each fey heart is different. Ashee may have a glowing gemstone or a golden acorn, while a grogan might have a ball of brambles. Afey heart is the pattern that ties the spirit to the flesh, and its blood is the conduit that translates the will of that soul into action. Of course this heart is rarely if ever seen by others, but the fey knows it’s there. It is a symbol that may recur in dealing with the individual or in his idioms, and he may bestow a gift that resembles it upon any he cares for. When a fey creature dies, its soul enters its heart, which then leaves his body in an ethereal form. Cast about on the winds of the Ethereal Plane, the lost fey soul begins to dissolve. Over time, this fragile soul will be torn apart completely, and it will be as if the fey had never existed. The Complete Guide to Fey, page 9-10 wrote: Though fey are only tied together by metaphysics, their blood is the same, no matter how they come to their state. It is the conduit for their souls and the container for all of their magic. The fey refer to their blood, the one aspect of their physicality that is the same as that of beings that are part of the True Cycle, with a reverence that approaches worship. A fey will swear an important oath “on The Blood,” and to cut one’s own flesh when making a promise is particularly meaningful. Even the most vile creatures among feykind will swear “on The Blood” when they wish it to be known that they are in fact telling the truth. When they find the need to do so, it is certain that they are. Unfortunately, there are magical uses for fey blood, the most common of which is the elixir of life. Wizards also find it useful in the creation of new life forms or in powerful transformation spells that are never spoken of in public. Pure fey blood, when applied to mortal skin, grants a Charisma bonus equaling the fey’s hit dice for 24 hours. When drunk, it grants a like Dexterity bonus for 1 minute. In the right hands, any or all of the former fey’s magical abilities can be distilled in the form of a potion, except that such a potion can con- tain magics higher than third level. This requires the Craft Wondrous Items feat and a Craft (alchemy) check, with a DC equal to 20 plus twice the power’s spell level.
Keep in mind that the book is just DnD, not Forgotten Realms settings. But it's a good guideline. If it was all valid on Amia, I bet Fey farms would be popular, where people gather the blood for use in skin lotion and improved Rogue's cunning potions

Oh, it says in The Complete Guide to Fey that despite the anatomical differences male fey can still impregnate females of other races, and vice-versa.

Fey are creatures that have no other recourse for continued life; they are the memories of old souls in a great mind; or recurring dreams, that will fade should the universe stir in the night. Quote: Physiology When we examine a fey being, we notice that it appears to have been pulled, prodded, and warped, as indeed it has, though not physically. Isnt fey born by magic and such, and the only organ they have is a heart. How are they possibly able to carry a child? On making new Fey: Quote: Life Cycle
There are five ways that new fey may come into existence. These methods are:
1. They (male or female) may mate with mortals, drawing on their unbound life energies to create progeny. Fey created in this way show no physical signs of their mortal parent, though a bit of the mortal’s emotional tendencies and attitudes will carry over. The mortal supplies the clay and the fey supplies the design. Fey born of a human mother will always be the same type of creature as the father. From that it sounds like they simply create a child, rather than become pregnant (of course, it's your RP so do what you like ). The other ways to create Fey are: Quote: 2. They may render the fey nature unto mortals who follow no god and who remain unclaimed by divine beings. This is how some fey have garnered the reputation for kidnapping newborn children as they have.
3. They may invite unclaimed souls of any kind, including those of the dead (but not those that are already undead), into fey existence. Little unintelligent spirits and elementals sometimes become fey, as they are drawn in by the power of a greater being like iron to a lodestone. When a female fey wishes to bear a child, she calls out to a spirit that is ready to take on fey existence. This spirit then joins with her, and she shapes it during periods of reverie, seeing her child as it will one day be.
4. A sufficiently powerful being, such as a god or demigod, may choose to become fey if it finds that it is near death. Though incredibly rare among mortals, there are also magics that spellcasters can use to bestow this state upon themselves. The process is not entirely unlike the process of becoming a lich, though it is significantly less gruesome.
5. A sufficiently powerful being may create vessels for lost or abandoned spirits and render unto them the fey nature. The creator of the fey need not be fey, merely powerful enough to create vessels for them. As fey are “used” souls, such a being usually resorts to using them if they are unable to create souls on their own. Such a powerful being becomes a Rememberer (see below) to all fey under them and has commensurate powers over their well-being.
A female fey that is with child can choose the form of their offspring. Adryad could give birth to a grogan, or a nymph could give birth to a puck. The tastes and desires of the mother determine the actual form of the child. Unlike many mortals, the appearance of the offspring has no affect on the love of most fey mothers. If the child of a fey mother is to be different from herself, the child will be born of one of the base races listed in the Characters chapter.
Of course, a fey may choose to give birth to a fey that exhibits its own characteristics. Such fey are born with 1/4 hit die (1 hp), and grow to a mature stage of 1/2 of their parent’s hit dice in 10 years, unless they choose another path. Like humans, most never become very powerful.

I've always RPed it as a normal pregnancy, more or less. Though in the case with a male fey and female mortal, I imagine it would be a pregnancy where the male fey 'places' a small child to be grown over time. (Since it's carried by the mother, and mortal traits and emotional tendencies carry over, I figure that'd be the unborn child reacting to the mother's emotional status and thoughts during pregnancy)
Yeah, I know I've probably thought and contemplated on all things fey way too much, but it's too damn fun to give up. Fey are completely different than other races, to the point where the difference can be compared to the difference between a human and a pit lord. The complete guide to Fey hold a lot of interesting stuff that you can weave into your fey char's persona.

A good example of children turned to fey are written further down in the Complete Guide: Quote: Malekin The malekin are mortal children who were kidnapped by the uninvited and transformed into new fey. They are perpetually vile, ill-behaved, and ultimately pitiful beings. Though immortal, they grow only until reaching an apparent age of six to ten, and remain this way forever. They wander through areas controlled by the Nightmare Court, killing and reveling in debaucheries only a wicked child can conceive. Physically, aside from the obvious, their ears gain tiny points, their eyes squint with malice, their hair and eyebrows are wild and peaked. Some acquire simple hints of their close ties with the fey, such as a green or brown tinge to their skin, the hints of horns just under the skin of their brows, or even feet molded into the shape of hooves. Only their eyes reveal their age, as fine wrinkles appear at their edges. Malekin are human children with the fey-shaped template. It is said that there are Dream Court counterparts to the malekin, created from lost or orphaned children, who are allowed to live in perpetual youth, living the adventures they could only previously have dreamed of.

I've always liked the idea of beings born of natural magic. Seem's kinda cool, like the magic itself takes on sentient life. Pregnancy may not exist, but a child like state may.
Fey may have child Fey, but they simply may not have the pregnancy part. Which kinda makes sense to me anyway, as honestly given how they look and such, pregnancy for a fey would be something damned near ridiculous.
This is all my opinion mind you, and not a statement of facts.

They don't have a heart per se, more of a central focus of their life energy, if that makes any sense. A little, yes, but why the blood then? Why is it needed to circle around them? Or is it just to make their deaths look messy and silly? In the above quotes: Quote: They have blood of a sort, as all living things must, but they do not pump it though their systems by physical means.
But why isn't it called the weave energy or something... I mean it still doesn't make any sense since blood's supposed to bring nutrients, piss, white cells and all that stuff and distribute it around the body.
And if the heart is actually not a heart then there's really no use for blood, because it could be molten plasma for all the gods and fey could care.
I think it's just to make Evil buggers happy since they can splatter it all over the walls and write stuff with it.

Because 'blood' is an apt analogy that saves them from filling the book with technobabble.

I Reckon it depends on the fey.... Liss with her butterfly wings should find a caterpillar that strikes her fancy, invest it with a soul so when it forms a caccoon instead of a butterfly, a kid comes out, or something of the like.

Mind that I don't think the Complete Guide to Fey contains a single Pixie, Sprite or Satyr, which are all the fey PCs on Amia at the moment.
I simply wouldn't use it beyond what's in Rules & Lore. The DM team recognized the book is full of nonsense and that we'd rather refute it all, but at the same time we simply don't have another comprehensive source. When some of us actually read it a while back, there were tears of blood involved. It's just that not a single DM on the team gave a damn about fey to study them properly.
So I'd rely on the book only as much is absolutely necessary, and wing the rest. There are plenty of descriptions of fey in Realmslore, and none of the strange garbage of Complete comes up in them.

Actually, Iron, just read it and all of the above appear in the book Yurell sent to me as download.
As for the blood thing... it's fey, we're not talking logic or sense here We're talking dream logic and magic sense. Totally different beast *nod nods*

And yet the dm's are meant to judge how it's rped? if you get my drift. maybe it's lore that needs to be sorted if it's a platium race and all

Yep, but the book isn't D&D or Forgotten Realms. It's an independent book, no more authoritative than anything written by you or me. Except that we have used parts of it in our fey description in Rules & Lore. Nothing more than those parts which have been posted are necessarily "canon" for Amia, and I'd personally strongly advice against using them. Because it's lame and nothing like FR fey.
And yes, REP. It would be wonderul. But as I said, nobody knows of any source. I doubt anyone is interested in doing extensive research, either: DMs or not, it's still their hobby and they shouldn't be expected to spend hours looking up obscure references about things they're not interested in, in expensive books they either have to buy or download illegally. I've personally done it for a lot of subjects, but not fey because I wasn't interested.
But you don't really need any more lore than what's in R&L.

Hm, the back cover of the book said it was official D&D. Not FR, but D&D...
*shrug* I've never been one to cling hard and fast to any rules or books obviously in exchange for making my own fun though, so I wouldn't argue with being creative and just enjoying yourself

I don't think it should be a player race at all, but since it is it needs its source of lore and, although it is decried as being bad, it is still the only major source of information.'
On that note, what is wrong with it?

Its published by a third party company who specializes at biting at the heels of D&D core material. Basically its fan fiction.
Besides the bits we have posted on the forum none of that book is to be used as a source for Lore.

So then any question we have we just bring it up here for the DMs to make up an Amia lore-correct answer?

...really that's the gist of the book, other than details and spells and such, which we can't really add in to the NWN game without WAAAAAY too much scripting, etc.
