Hiya,
Hard disk failure! And I'm in "end of term mode"..... so it won't be fixed until some time next week when I have a moment to work on it.
BOO.
It is backed up but the backup is old so PRAY TO LOLTH and someone please sacrifice disco before he gets wind of what's coming.

PS I counted... this is the SEVENTH hard drive failure I've experienced.
I **HATE** hard drives! Why can't we have some technology that's actually reliable to store data?

Sha, if memory serves, Magnum mentioned in one of the other threads about the Wiki being down, that he could host it. I just cannot find the proper thread now.
Did you try talking to him?

Most of the time your Hard-drives fail is due to bad cooling.

Well the hard disk is okay..... it's just that Ubuntu makes /boot partitions too big by default. So the drive needs to be repartitioned with a smaller /boot partition.
I do not understand why Ubuntu does not do that by default! GRRRR.
In any case, I'm going to install on a new HD which I ordered after partitioning that, and copy over the files, so it shouldn't be TOO bad!
I miss you all very much! Maybe I can come back some day. Amia's doing some really nice things!

Yep! I've successfully reinstalled linux on the thing, and copied most of the files onto the new drive, and I still have to configure the web server, copy over the databases, and configure the dynamic DNS client.
I hope to finish with those things tonite - needs to happen soon for other reasons too! It has a webdav server on it that has to be set up as well, so it may yoyo some during the next few days.
I'll post here the moment it's up, so if you want notification, just make sure you're following this topic.
Thanks for your patience.

LOL..... That's funny!
Well I have been STRUGGLING for DAYS to configure apache 2.2 - as it turns out some lamebrain on the Apache dev team decided to make an attempt to reload SSL into a fatal error, and so my apache web server configuration broke.
I finally figured out today that ANY directive, not just an SSLEngine on directive, outside a virtual host directive will cause SSL to load. So I've fixed that, and the server is now in some weird broken state running goddess knows what. CURSE YOU LOLTH! We aint LOLing hiere about that you know.
Anyway, the web server is working. I'm making progress! To Do: Set up the amiawiki directory with the correct database access (the files are there), configure amiawiki for SSL, and last, upgrade its mediawiki version while I'm in there.
When it does come up eventually please be advised that amiawiki will be SSL enabled and you should connect to it via https:// if you plan on logging in to it, and that you will get a security exception because the security key is for ligatype.com and is self-signed. SSL is not used here to identify the server, only to encrypt the connection (CURSES to the devs who mixed these two functions! You should be able to encrypt without verification if you WANT to after all!)
Anyway all that is very technical.
To those who wonder why I'm using ubuntu for a server... eh... well it was running ubuntu before, and at one time the OS came with lots of really nice config tools that were GUI based. No more! Ubuntu 9.10 doesn't even come with a NETWORK CONFIG utility anymore. That's right. There's no network preference panel that I can find. You have to do it all on the command line and/or editing config files. I suppose they figure that people are too stupid to know how to configure a network anyway!
Why can't they look at the Mac's Location manager? It's not like people don't KNOW how to do it right..... now there are lots of things I love and hate about each of every OS! Mac, Windows, Linux - I dearly love them all! But I wish that people who designed network config tools at least would LOOK at how a mac does it!
Anyway I'm getting sidetracked - my kids use the workstation in addition to it being an amiawiki server and a few other things - that's why it's got Ubuntu on there. It's pretty!
Sorry for the ranting and raving. Just know that I have watched a few shows yes but have spent hours on this d*((&UI)(W*ER&U)(*& thung! For you! Cause I love you so much. But it's all good - it's not like I can go anywhere with 14 inches of snow! That's pretty too! *squeal!*

I have some bad news......
Not really!
Remember the hard drive failed and I was thrilled to find out that the amiawiki site was okay? well the wiki database isn't okay. The sectors that went bad were the ones that the database was stored on
I do have an old backup! I have no clue how old it is. The backup procedure for my server's always been a bit wonky enough.
I'm working on it but you BETTER GET DISCO CHAINED DOWN in that dungeon so Lolth can start letting the blood flow, I can tell you that much.

I know! I don't mind the stress or work though and have been and still am happy to host it!
I really do want to come back some day honest ... just got so much stuff to do.
News:
Wiki should be back up! But it's not publicly visible yet for some reason. It works for ME though!
I was able to restore from the old drive fine and I think there was no data loss.
Upgraded to mediawiki 1.15.1 (that took FOUR HOURS to merge the local settings files and upgrade so someone owes me cookies!)
Thank you for your blood, Disco, Seems to have made all the difference!
The website MAY yoyo a bit as I reconfigure other things over the next few days. I have not fully tested the amiawiki server yet.
LATEST:
Seems to be working fine now. Please enjoy.

Gods forbid someone who's doing something out of the good of their heart, not being paid for lapse in what they're providing to you without question, using electricity/bandwidth and wear on their hardware, who has asked for nothing and which costs them to do so have a lapse in uptime.

Back up now!
I am not quite sure why those services didn't restart at reboot but seems to be going now.
