I just want it too be known that I could be wrong. I just wanted to express my opinion on a sunject that kinda came up in role play the other day. I am wondering if I correct in thinking that two people of the same faith can worship differently? I will use the difference in how two PCs worship Salandra. and yes I checked with the other PCs player before posting this

Nik'ta
She believes that all one has to do be a good Salandran is too follow the five manadates of Salandra. All you need to do is heal all that needs heal. Meaning that if your in a fight between two people, the second either of them get a wound you would heal them, but you would not go out of your way to stop the fight. That is why the temple has gaurds, because preistess's are not expected to defend themselves.

There is another factor that Nik'ta differs from Weston. Nik'ta believes that the kill undead, is really ment to read Kill things unitelegent and or un-natural. This is why Nik'ta goes out of her way to preach against golems, and Fey. Well more so Golems than fey.

Most Golems are exactly like undead. They are built via Magic. They have no soul. They do what they are told, and without that Magic they crumble into nothingness. That is why the way to heal both Undead and golems is an anti-magic field, and watch them crumble

Weston

He believes on the other hand that when Salandran Said, heal all without prejduice, that it ment that he had to make sure no one got sick, or injuried ever. THat he had to protect the weak with all of his abilities and strengths. It is his job to make sure that he protects the weak, feed the poor, and other such stuff. Weston is the type to stand between two people if he saw them about to fight.

He also believes that kill undead, means just that to kill undead. That is why he is bests friends with a golem. He doesnt think that even though Undead and golem share a lot similar characteristics, there is a big difference. Undead are made by disturbing peoples graves.

As the player of Weston, I would like to point out that the information above as marked "Weston" is interpretive of fjook; and not neccissarily my exact feelings of the PC.

I do however approve of the post with that in mind. Because it shows interpretations.

Individual toons may even differ from their gods ways. My cleric is not perfectly on key with his gods main teachings, nor would I expect any worshiper of any god to be so unless they had the same exact alignment, even then allowing deviation.

Faith is an interpretation. Though this may be Forgotten Realms and gods have a much more visible hand in the world, nobody will completely agree on what those gods' teachings mean.

Of course there's different ways to interpret dogma in faith. There's no question there at all. Look at the two Banite Church's when they clashed; look at Weston and Metalien; The Grove, the Hidden Glades and the independents (the ones who share faiths in Silvanus, Mielikki and Eldath anyway); Monolith Mystrans and Tarkuul Mystrans; Lolthites infighting; Velsharran infighting; Eilistraeen infighting; Elven infighting. The list goes on and on. A lot of dogma is left broad so that people can interpret it as they see it. It makes things interesting.

Of course, it's also evident in real world religions: Catholics, Protestants, Easterners and Nontrinitarian within Christianity; Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, Renewal, Rabbinic, etc in Judaism; Sunni, Shi'a, Sufism, Nation of Islam, etc for Islam. There are fractions within those fractions too. Everyone thinks they're right, it's the nature of the beast.

I absolutely agree that there may be different interpretations of a faith (again, the RL instances of this are many). It makes for more fun when different versions clash - they can call each other heretic and start inviting people to the upcoming barbecue.

Undead constructs do not require the desecrating of a grave.

You only need bones, or corpses in some instances. Bone and flesh golems are very similar.

Ame, on the other hand, was more pacifist - her worship involved healing the ill & injured and not harming another sentient creature except in the last defence of her own life.

To each their own - interpret the dogma as you will, and unless the Church has a very rigid structure (which Salandrans don't), you can get away with disagreeing on certain interpretations of the tenets.
