hi guys and gals, i took a couple of months off and during that time i got a new video card(new for me that is lol). Now NWN randomly freezes, and worst it locks up my computer, my thoughts on this were that the graphic card is crashing, so i of course updated it just to make sure. yet the problem still is happening. any ideas? i was thinking a re-install might be a good idea

here are my computers stats

Windows Xp
AMD Athlon 64 processor
3200+
2.2GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM
Gforce 6600 GT

also i have it running a dual monitor set up, idk if thats an issue or not

I don't know how to fix it, but I'm pretty sure it's not the video card, as I had that one on my computer running XP and it had no problems with NWN.

I assume you're running windows xp?

Go to www.nvidia.com and download the requisite driver for your card.

Then download: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ and install it.

Then download www.ccleaner.com and install it.

Uninstall your drivers for your video card from windows control panel.

If it asks to restart, don't.

Use driver sweeper to remove graphics drivers from your system.

Run CCleaner and run its registry cleaner and have it fix the registry, then

Restart.

Reinstall your already downloaded nvidia drivers.

Restart.

Try playing nwn again see if it fixes your issues.

I'd say "run as administrator" although I doubt it would even start without that.

My next thought is Firewalls. As I've had past experience with versions that would block a program after it ran for a while, not right away, who knows why.

Also going to just ask if you HAK is the most recent?

i don't think its firewalls, i haven't change them since way before i got my new video card, also pre-haks, i notice nwn crashed (after testing out what the new card could do), but i thought it was a fluke, then recently i started playing again, and it happen randomly, but often. still if what dwagin suggested doesn't work i'll try both

still running CCleaner, its taking forever lol

Is it just Amia or did you try singleplayer / other server as well?

Critical rebuild for 1,69 may help as well, or this: http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=te ... ail&id=109

played through a single player quest, and been playing on an arena server for 30 minutes, no crashing

could the new haks and the overides i run be creating issue?

though i only have the tree overide, and some creature overides, plus amia's basic

Try this first:

* rename your override folder to backupoverride or whatever.
* do the critical rebuild from the bioware forum
* download and install the hak again (you never know)
* download and install hands and heads

Try again

Oof.. if the fans arent working right that could be it overheating.

If you're using those, install older ones, asap.

yes i did, just tested, then froze up, just had a reboot

it feels like a video issue tho, the way it locks up my entire computer and freezes the game screen, the audio goes bonkers a bit to

-edit-

also just open my computer up, the fan on the video card is working fine, felt i had to check just in case

ok i was wrong, direct x wasn't it, just got some free time to play today and it froze up about 5 to 10 minutes into playing the same way. guess it just wanted to give me false hope lol.

so far i've done

-turn down graphic's to minimum
-deleted all old video drivers
-updated video card (not to the bad update tho)
-crit rebuild
-took out my overrides
-re-downloaded haks and overrides for Amia
-updated direct x drivers

Open windows explorer by hitting the windows key + E at the same time.

Right click your hard drive, click properties. Click tool tab.
Check the Drive for errors. Make sure the box for Automatically fix file errors is checked.

Restart. Let it do its thing.

Disable sound in the .ini files and try again. A lot of NWN crashes are related to sound drivers.

nothing else crashes on my computer, no other game, been trying, and i got 2 fans inside my computer and an additional one on the video card, so i don't think its an overheating problem

on a side note i am able to get it to cash in single player as well, it really doesn't like me creating new characters it seems

i'm going to reinstall and see what happens

Do you have many portraits? NWN crashes whenever I make a new character because I have 35k portraits.

http://nwn.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic ... um=49&sp=0

Downloading updates now (tho its taking its sweet time) and testing asap, here's hoping

If I may ask. Is your dynamic lights slider turned right up? If so, it may decrease numerous crashes if you turn it right down so they are off. I had this issue till I turned it down. Then I only crashed every now and then, over normal NWN fidgetyness.

Apperently there is a Memory Leak in NWN. A very small one that isn't notice for a very long time, but it is there with certain features turned right up. High end computers probably won't even notice it.
