Innocent No Longer

Intro: This is working off of Kjetta's ideas for alternate beginnings, save a small twist.

This campaign will place the PCs in a rarely encountered situation on Amia: True danger. The PCs are not adventurers, but rather, weak and untrained children. Throughout the course of the adventure, the PCs will not be the predators but rather the prey and pretty much easily killed by any hostile NPC in direct combat. Their world will be a hostile one, isolated from safety and aid. With teamwork, cunning and a little luck maybe they'll survive the hungry world of dark fantasy to become adults. But it's not going to be easy.

PCs: The PCs are human, half-elven and half-orc children between the ages of 8-12. PCs who join will be reskinned as halflings and given undroppable 'nerfing' belts to simulate their lack of growth. They'll start at level 2 and should end around level 5 - 7, at which point they'll be "speed-of-plotted" into adulthood by 12 years and reskinned back into their base race. The classes they can be are limited: bard, barbarian, fighter, rogue, ranger, sorcerer. Prospective players must send me an application. We'll decide on a time to meet up weekly after applications are sent in an accepted. These applications must include a background and how you got captured. Adventurer children are not welcome. It's assumed your parents had adventurer capabilities, thus why you have PC class levels. Wisdom-based and intelligent-based classes are excluded due to age of the PCs. HOWEVER if you have a very very good application, I may allow a single wizard.

Caveat: Standard combat will almost always result in the death of at least one PC. As well, confrontation of any sort is likely to get you in trouble. Because of the nature of the situation, death is permanent. Without exception. As well, any one who is caught playing their campaign PC before the campaign is over will be reduced back to level 2 and removed from the campaign. Mature audiences are encouraged. While we'll certainly operate within Amia's standards of decency, I will try to push the envelope in horror and desperateness.

Here you are. Separated from everyone who has ever loved you and next on the menu for a goblin's feast. How did it all come to this? You shouldn't have to make this decision, but here it is: will you wait for your guardians to save you or will you save yourself?

Not at all. Just include the information requested, basic information about the character you'd like to submit, anything else you'd like to include, and put it in what ever format you'd like. Just paragraph it.

I believe applications will be vetted then as a group a time will be worked out that will work out best for all, but I'm just guessing this

Bobo can I create a character for the intent of taking part in this? This looks like the RP I've been CRAVING to get into since I first joined Amia so many years ago. I can think of nothing better then having to work with wits, charms, and initiative then brute force on a character for once.

That's the right of it, though I am leaning heavily toward weekends. That seems to be the most likely time of getting some overlap in playtimes.

Any one who wants to join is welcome to make an application. So far, I've loved what I've been seeing.

I'll be accepting applications until Wednesday. I'll probably accept between four and six players overall. If someone isn't picked initially, don't despair. You may still be able to join if someone else cannot make the time that would be best for the majority of the group.

I'd like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and the lovely applications I've recieved thus far.

Goblins were involved in your capture. The depth of your captor's and situation is not fully in your ken. How you got captured is up to you.

Sounds like being vague at the end of your characters application is the best bet for explanation of capture.

I would just DIE to be a part of this! No really, my character would probably die. Depending on when this will be run, I may be interested. I'm a bit busy these days though. I still come on a nice amount of time per week, but not like I used to.

In Case of Emergency:
http://www.childabuse.com/prevent.htm

I'm just going to finally give up and stop holding in my opinion, since I seem to be well against the grain.

But the intent of this RP, for me personally, is not that of "something exciting" or "thriller". It is a real and terrible thing. This is not "drama", this is "horrorific".

I do not find this a laughing matter. I have never found it to be "good plot builder". It is nothing new, perhaps, but there is a large show of insensitivity developing on this thread.

And if your child, by blessing, survives this, I would pray you truely work to understand the kind of physchological, sociological, and physical trauma that child abuse causes.

This is not something that is "shrugged off". This is harsh, this is cruel, this is the sickest of reality. Even though put in a fantasy setting, there is nothing fictional about what you've decided to roleplay.

Don't forget what you're going to Role Play.

Don't ever forget.

Torzeng's concern is valid, but I sense all involved are mature enough to recognize this situation as it truly is.

However, I imagine some of the 'insensitive' people may simply be trying to put a bit of humour on the situation. (Consider: How often is it that a child PC is played like a proper Child PC and not some demented sociopath or otherwise really not realistically a child?)

Just because you run an event where children are in danger does not mean you encourage and support domestic child abuse. Good god. Next you will tell me that we need to be ever mindful of the dangers of racism as Qirlan wages his war against the Drow?

Eh... I think you're being a little overly sensitive here. Men beating women and women beating men has happened here for forever. Never seen anyone throw a fit about that. There are -tons- of horrible things that are done in game that should never ever be done in real life. This is a game, a role playing game. We're like actors, we play the roles because it's a part of the script and for the sake of acting and enjoying the role playing experience. We don't do it to promote violence, destruction, torture, women beatings, man beating, child beatings and death.

This.

Forgotten Realms / Abier Toril is an extremely dark place, when you truly think about it. Slavery is common, rape moreso, and lord forbid you're the child of two humans and you've got the traits of a fiend (Since, despite popular belief, planar blood skips many generations).

Child abuse is likewise, quite common, and these are all themes which form the world that Amia is set in. It's simply a matter of handling it with tact.

If you get wound up based on things that happen in a non-real game world, it's time you stepped back and took a long, cold, hard look at how seriously you're taking the game itself.

I understand your dissent here, children are also a buzz word for me. However, children have been having adventures in the realm of fantasy for years. This is partially because I know bobo, and partially because I think it's a fantastic idea to flesh out a character from childhood to adulthood.

How many people on Amia are running around with evil secrets or horrible backstories from their past? Bobo is just giving them a chance to act it out.

Plus we're talking about goblins eating the children, which is a monster of types. If we were RPing human cannibalism or something of the like, then I would totally be up in arms about that. But this is a monster scenario; there ARE monsters here, and I think for the more sensitive players around, the fact that Bobo explained it was more mature and horrific-- i.e. do not apply if that will bother you-- is good enough.

I never said, nor accused, nor actually meant to imply that anyone here supports Child Abuse.

You know, I am being sensitive. I don't know if I'll say overly, however. Everyone has a type of RP they are made uncomfortable by. Slavery, Sex, Torture, Medical, Racist, ect, ect, ect... Mine happens to be when when Children get involved in really bad things happening to them. I've never been able to stomach it well.

I just couldn't hold it in any longer that this is something that makes me uncomfortable. I tried very hard to express it with a factual, non-agressive tone as well. Sensitive... yeah, I am. Overly? No... This is up on the list with "Rape" to my mind.

Is it my intent to stop people? Well it's not against the rules, so no. And I've seen this RP many dozens of times (expecially as a medical PC).

To Lally:

The trip-line for me on this is that what you listed above, that I know about, are all "Teenage" character's.

It's my distinct impression of Bobo's characters to be:
Quote:
The PCs are human, half-elven and half-orc children between the ages of 8-12
All of these children are younger than Teenage. They are actually around puberty or just before in age-range.

That makes a difference to me. Honest to god, a Teenager being abused doesn't make me cringe as badly because they're old enough (in terms of RL) to understand to be able to get help. Before that age, it's suffering without understanding.

I'll wrap up on this....

To those whom I have, or mayhaps will, offended, I apologize. It is not been my intent to accuse anyone of being insensitive. Although I used the term, I meant it as how I personally felt. I did not, nor do I , accuse anyone of supporting child abuse. I really feel that I had to express myself, and I did my best to only make an expression.

If you feel offended, I apologize. I do not mean to "rain on the parade".

I do, in fact, hope you enjoy your Role Play. Those who have chosen to participate obviously made it as a willing choice. My only real hope I would stress upon others is to really consider the implications for the character. Bobo is looking to have a more serious event, in my understanding, and part of that is holding up to the possible high-degree of trauma.

If you feel scorned or told-off, I apologize. I am not trying to say, nor am saying, "this kind of RP needs stopped".

Well put, Torzeng. We can all relate your emotion to something thats sensitive for the rest of us, and its no doubt difficult to control your emotion. Kuddos for that.

So just keep yer heads up, I suppose. Yes, its a game, but yes, its a game that reaches deep in our cores because we love it so. I dont doubt that Bodo will choose players that can play it responsibly.

Hoo-Rah, go get 'em guys. And have fun.

Hey, y'all.

I'm still waiting on one reply, but I've pretty much notified everyone who I've chosen. It's been a very difficult task narrow down the players. For the most part, I ended up looking at what personalities and backgrounds would clash and provide a proper amount of in-fighting rather than quality (which every application had in spades). I want to thank everyone again. Every application I received was just stellar, and it was a pity I couldn't provide play for everyone.

Accepted Players: Does 3 pm (15:00) GMT -5 (I believe)/ 8 GMT work on Saturdays? Please send me a pm or let me know inGame. I'd like to start this upcoming saturday.

As well, nudge me some time InGame and I'll help you get your character set up. Just don't put them through the mirror. I'll be DMside Tuesday/Thursday (American) evenings, and Wednesday/Friday in the American afternoon, and A few hours on Saturday before game, if it happens this week.

I wanna play! *sniff* Darn gainful employment, that makes me work when these things are happening!

Hey, guys.

Group is officially locked in. However, we won't be playing this week because, like, 33% of the players can't make it. Next week also seems to be a problem area, so here's what I propose: move the game forward to the previous day for that week alone, and probably push the time back by two hours. We'll also try to use that as a fall-back if no one disagrees. We'll figure out something else if someone can't make it.

I'm going to ask only those playing in the campaign reply here from now on. Maybe other DMs as well if they have anything to add. But still, PM me if you have any one-time scheduling conflicts. So, sound off. Will Friday at 17:00 GMT-5 work as a back up?

Also: I'll be setting up an IC thread in DM events later today. So, yeah.

This Friday that hour is fine with me. Or is it that you're talking about next week's Friday? That would be a-ok as well.

Yeah, no game this week, I'm afraid. Unless people are OK with having it on such short notice.

Is that 5:00 pm on Friday Texas time then? I know I'm a dork, but I cannot figure out the timezone thing very well once we get into GMT's and minuses.

Friday nights are a little rough for me as they're date-nights for me and hubby. I would be rushed, like could only do 5-6 pm on Friday nights as we leave as soon as he's home from work. So I could potentially do 5, but I would be rushed and I hate to rush a campaign as awesome as this one.

Sorry to be a joykill :/ I could also do later on Friday nights with enough notice, like 8pm or so and time would not be crunched then.
