I've been told from respected sources that this is indeed possible. At least in PnP.

It's good RP to try, either way.

Be a badass and wear leather or studded armour. You won't get max AC, but that AC will suck anyway if you play a wisdom heavy druid. Leather looks much more druidy than cloth anyway.

The hak added some nice light armor designs that look like furs and such.

Possible, but the DM team has customarily required that your alignment actually be respecting the heritage you seek to espouse. I.e. an Evil Aasimar is unlikely to get a nod towards strengthening their celestial bonds, just as a good tiefling or an evil metallic dragon disciple is unlikely to get any 'help' as well.

If I dare ask, what could actually come from it? RDDs get all sorts of random dandys by virtue of class benefits.. an RPed pursuit of Infernal or Celestial heritage..cosmetic differences, mostly? Maybe add wings to the character if someone wanted to hand over the DC?

Or is there more that could be achieved than wings and lines added to one's description to reflect the changing appearance?

Since it's something not mechanically in the game, DC would be necessary, I assume.

As far as what could come of it? Make a request and find out. I don't think it can be surely said what "could" or "could not" be possible just off the bat. It would likely depend on the how well the lore matches up to FR, the power in respect to the server, the rarity, the precedent, and the RP... just as it does with any other DC request. :D

I'd think a few traits could be gained through "focusing" on heritage, but I'd also imagine what traits that would be gained would depend a lot on the specific celestial/infernal creature in the PC's background. They are a lot of different angels and devils/demons out there, and what one aasimar might gain from focusing on his/her heritage could be something completely different than what another one might gain.

Except for the warrior classes (Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger and Paladin), yes.

I should still think that they're relatively rare as well. I'd expect the vast majority of soldiers to simply be lvl 1-3 Warriors, maybe their captains having a level of fighter at most. On Amia, on the other hand, I'd expect basically everyone to have PC classes, since it's a high-level server, and NWN doesn't have the NPC classes AFAIK.

in PnP by and large the NPC classes would probably be used, on Amia you're seeing a lot of inflation, yes.

Would it be possible for a druid to worship Chauntea? I mean, It's a lawful good deity - While druids cannot be lawful good....

Lawful Neutral or Neutral Good should be fine for that.

Chauntea is NG, not LG. Therefore, a druid of Chauntea can be NG, but LN violates the one step rule for divine casters. Which applies to all divine casters, rangers, druids or cleric.

She is also the first listed god in the Campaign Setting to have druids, so it'll be pretty off if she couldn't have any.

TN/Neutral normally does not work for divine casters, as the one step rule rule says that only a Neutral god may have Neutral followers.

But Faiths and Pantheons lists Neutral as an acceptable alignment for her clerics, so its a bit of a moot point. No idea what the Amia rules are, especially as the search is not working.

Na, Chauntea can have TN Druids. Where did you read that only TN gods can have TN priests?

Is it possible to unconsciously worship a god? As in, your actions are more similar to those that would usually be performed by priests or followers of a specific god, and when you die, even if you never openly said "X is the god I worship", that god would come claim your soul?

This question has been bugging me for a while now.

At least in the case of dead or merged gods, it's quite possible. Worshipers don't even always realise their god has been killed and/or merged with another god.

It bugs me to no ends when characters know all this stuff ICly, because the player read it in a book....

Not in this case. I cannot give too many details here because it is 'dangerous' information. Do you want me to PM or email you, or any other DM on about it?

Nathera is correct in that the One-Step Rule also has a clause which says only (True) Neutral gods may have (True) Neutral divine casters.

It's stupid as hell. The entire "One-Step Rule" is stupid. FRCS doesn't know it yet, and lists clergy alignment individually for each deity. A much better list of acceptable clergy alignments can be found in Faiths & Avatars, Powers & Pantheons and Demihuman Deities. That's what I tend to go by, since they're considered case-by-case for each deity with their dogma and church tradition in mind, and because Amia hasn't enforced the One-Step Rule strictly (only proper worship and behaviour).

Meh. I go by Faiths and Pantheons or the one step rule if I don't remember the exact alignments. It says Chauntea can have TN priests and that's good enough for me! :D

I would say yes. But there's nothing said for sure in the books, that I know of.

Yeah consistency is both very useful and startlingly absent.
Faiths and Pantheons is the best book available on the matter, though.

And ofcourse, if you are playing a Ffolk druid, you can worship The Earth Mother, which is a more badass aspect of Chauntea, that fits TN quite well.

If the deity is TN, then there is no reason your druid can't be LN. LN is an allowed druid aligment.

Edit: Besides, lawful can mean anything. How about a druid that adheres strongly to some Law of Nature? Or a particular local druidic code? LN isn't less druidy than CN.

Moonshae doesn't mention her alignment. But it shouldn't matter: I'm sure any god will give powers to any mortal who acts within their dogma and in their service. If you can come up with a Lawful Neutral concept that assumes the faith perfectly naturally, why should it matter? DMs certainly have never intervened on basis of alignment alone, if behaviour is both in keeping with the chosen alignment and patron deity. The game-designers who wrote those books aren't all-knowing.

Okok. Then it's all dandy.

Now next question -"How does a Ffolk look like? Dark hair? Light hair? I know they're in conflict with northlanders(Vikings aparently), so i guess they should be somewhat different.

From the Subraces page:
Quote:
The native people of the Moonshaes are known as the Ffolk, as opposed to the seafaring Northmen in the northern sections of the islands. Their hair is dark and their skin tan. The islands of Moray, Gwynneth and Alaron are split into several small nations of the Ffolk, though they are ultimately lead by High Queen Alicia Kendrick who resides in Caer Callidyrr. The Ffolk practice agriculture and therefore interact little with other cultures. They are an isolated people who are generally suspicious towards outlanders.

I used Races of Faerûn as a source for the appearance. It's not a lot.

Lay on Hands:

When using the ability on himself, does a paladin have to actually touch the wounded part of his body with his hand(s) to heal it? Or does he merely need to "meditate" on using it like how Empty Body works for monks?

And for the matter of using it on others, must the hands always be used? I'd think it be open for interpritation as long as physical contact is established between the paladin and target.

Quote:
Beginning at 2nd level, a paladin with a Charisma score of 12 or higher can heal wounds (her own or those of others) by touch. Each day she can heal a total number of hit points of damage equal to her paladin level × her Charisma bonus. A paladin may choose to divide her healing among multiple recipients, and she doesn’t have to use it all at once. Using lay on hands is a standard action.

Alternatively, a paladin can use any or all of this healing power to deal damage to undead creatures. Using lay on hands in this way requires a successful melee touch attack and doesn’t provoke an attack of opportunity. The paladin decides how many of her daily allotment of points to use as damage after successfully touching an undead creature.

It simply says "touch". I don't see why a kiss on the forehead wouldn't work, for example. But clearly it's intentional touching, so I doubt you could do it if you were bound and only your back was leaning against the other prisoner. No technical reason, just that it does not have the symbolism of bestowing a blessing.

It clearly says "touch" so I don't think mere meditation would work for himself. You're not "touching yourself" just because your balls are connected to your crotch. Get those hands working! Or, again, that mouth if you're flexible enough.

But yes, I'd say it's within interpretation as long as it's (IMO) intentional and symbolic touching. Note that you need to perform a touch attack to use it in a hostile manner, and usually that doesn't mean you can just ram the enemy shoulder-first or wait for it to kick you in the head. You need to intentionally touch them with whatever bodypart is delivering the spell.

If I'm not mistaken, that's a Favored Soul, albeit they get to cast all sorts of little divine spells etc in the same fashion a Sorc does with their Arcane stuff.

To be honest I'm not actually sure how Favored Souls even know which deity they're getting their power from.. I'm sure there's someone with more knowledge on the question that may answer better than I can though.

They're allowed. Galenson played one without request, grandfathered, etc, but as a personal opinion I'd prefer it to be request only. Favored Souls are born or hand selected. You don't just train as one.

I have a question! I'm thinking up a character concept and I need to know what Chessenta is exactly. Is it supposed to be the fantastical equivilent of ancient Greece? If so, what subrace corresponds with that region (if any). I'd love to know more about Chessenta, but as google as my only resource, I'm understandably limited. :P

Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's something like that. Currently ruled and ravaged by an evil dragon, I reckon. Or it might be that Thcazzar is still hiding and they just worship him. Much of Khem's population is Chessentan.

In Chessenta, I believe you will find Turami, Mulan, Rashemi and Amnite.
Quote:
Unther and Mulhorand are relatively
stable and united societies, and the social
structure does not vary much from
region to region. In Chessenta, this is
not the case; each city is a different society
and may contain substantial differences
in social mix, laws, and character.
The peoples of Chessenta are of many
races: common humans are the Mulani
(Unther/Mulhorand), Turami (Turmish),
Rashemi (Rashemen), and Amnite
(Amn); there are also more than a few
elves, half-elves, half-orcs, orcs,
dwarves, and halflings mixed in the cities.
Airspur and Mordulkin are particularly
well-known for their cosmopolitan
mix of races.
As in the other nations of the Old Empires,
there are three social classes: nobility,
middle class, and slaves/serfs.
The rulers are usually Mulan humans,
descended from those who originally
rebelled against Unther.

Quote:
Chessenta is generally considered to
have a neutral society, subject to regional
variations. Cimbar is probably
best described as lawful good, while
Akanax is lawful neutral, and Luthcheq
is lawful evil.
In Chessenta, there are a number of
motives that drive people. The people
of the outside see the Chessentan’s
feasts and wars and often view them as
a riotous, drunken people. While it is
true that Chessentans feast and fight often
and long, this description misses the
fundamental facet of a Chessentan’s
character-passion. Chessentans are an
extremely energetic people who rarely
do things except to an extreme. Competition
is very important to their way of
life, as is art. The Chessentans live for
today, but without the fatalism or desperation
of those who believe that the
world will soon end.
This tendency toward excess and
driven behavior enables them to create
works of beauty that cannot be found
elsewhere in the Realms. It also encourages
them to engage in savage warfare
with appalling frequently. Chessenta is
a land that does not believe in doing
anything half-way.

Hit me up on MSN at ironangel@luukku.com, if you want the book Old Empires that tells you everything you need (save the most recent events, which you'll find in our Amian timeline.) Its take on religion is slightly outdated too.

Q; Why doesn't druids have access to the spells "Endurance" And "Cat's Grace" among others? It makes more sense for them to have these spells than their divine counterpart, The clerics....

Normal clerics don't have Cat's either, so.

Not really a lore question, I reckon. Simply something game designers thought was smart for whatever reason, or happened to overlook for whatever reason. There is very rarely if ever a lore-driven motive behind game design. It tends to come later as an excuse.

Decanter of Endless Water
If the stopper is removed from this ordinary-looking flask and a command word spoken, an amount of fresh or salt water pours out. Separate command words determine the type as well as the volume and velocity.

"Stream" pours out 1 gallon per round.
"Fountain" produces a 5-foot-long stream at 5 gallons per round.
"Geyser" produces a 20-foot-long, 1-foot-wide stream at 30 gallons per round.
The geyser effect causes considerable back pressure, requiring the holder to make a DC 12 Strength check to avoid being knocked down. The force of the geyser deals 1d4 points of damage but can only affect one target per round. The command word must be spoken to stop it.

Would it be possible for a Wizard of sufficient level for plot purposes to make a Rod-based Variant of this? (Non-combat intended)

It does make sense that Druids would have access to all the animal buff spells but they dont. Ah well.

EDIT: Darn.. the quote button I wanted was below, not above my post as before. I quoted the wrong thing. ^^;

Here, for the correct quote:

This question has been bugging me for a while now.

I think I will PM Tormak to ask about it. It has nothing to do with favored souls. >_<

Aye. Then again, there are a lot of spells that would make sense with different classes yet they don't get those spells. A matter of perspective at the end of the day, I guess.

Anyone know where a chap can get a pdf copy of the Psionics Handbook expansion. I've looked everywhere and can't find it. Same with Manual of the Planes.
