Question - What spells, in nwn, are prohibited for a Shadow Weave user?

Light obviously? And Continual light. But What others? Sunburst?

Any spell with the 'light' descriptor in PnP. For NWN I would think any that produce 'light' effects. Light, cont. light, sunburst, sunbeam, searling light.. etc, etc..

Is how I would interpret it, yes. All of those spells have the 'light' descriptor according to PnP rules. I'd say, if in doubt, use http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/spellLists.htm.

It's not necessarily "divine or positive light", it's just "light".

All fire and lightning spells, thunderclap, burst, beam, UtD, Flameweapon (Lightning and Fire), Efreet, Hellball, Greater Ruin and the Stock Red Dragon were previously banned ICly by Shadow Weavers, the use of which would constitute a breaking of your ability to draw from the Shadow Weave. The light descriptor didn't really come into it, if it caused "Light" or a light-like Glow or an explosion we didn't use it.

I should presume so. They're still an animal and an animal needs to store body fat somewhere.

I've seen a few, even played one. Just bothers me I can't play an elf. No clue how they should act. The only elves I've really seen are the Cordorian ones and Qirlan plus partners.

I played one 100 years ago, but not a lot; just a little. She was actually cute as a bug; I hear you on the elf lore thing though . . . I wouldn't want to play one if I couldn't do it properly.

Never seen or heard of anyone playing a fat Elf before. I do remember, back when I used to play with the Lolthite crowd, someone had a fat Drowess. To be fair, it's not very common that you see fat PC's at all. But I guess it kinda would be less common than it is in the world today, since people are tons more active in the setting than they are in real life in the year 2010.

If an adventurer on Amia can't afford a tad of luxury, I'd say that's one lazy adventurer.

Elves dont really get fat becouse of their diat. They dont eat alot, and mostly leaves and greens. Their more sensitive to taists in foods, as well. Overly done foods come across as well.. loud, to them. Where as something boring and bland to humans or anyone else, would perhaps have many flavors an elf can taist. I also always asumed their body digests differently then a humans, mostly being they make lest waist and their body uses up more of what they take in.

Though its not impossable to have a heavy set elf, though a Fat Elf is not likly to be bigger or heavier then your avrage human anyway. IMO anyway.

Oh no, I have an entirely different approach when it comes to food of elves.

It all depends on the race I'd say. The general idea of elf diet is LUXURY! Grapes, Wine, Pineapple, Steak, and ...Stuff that's really luxurious and expensive!

By god, they're ancient creatures, that gather a fortune over their lifespan. They can AFFORD overly done food!

Was going to just post parts of this, but i figured i might as well use the words given.

This is from Elves of Faerun.
Quote:
The Elven palate, like the Human palate, is omnivorous.
The Fair Folk can survive by ingesting both plants and
meats. But, this is the closest similarity that the Elven
taste shares with that of Humans, or any other race, for
that matter. While an Elf may subsist on food prepared
in the styles of Humans, or Dwarves, or Halflings, our
tastes are much more discerning. We prefer delicate
food and drink, particularly those that possess subtletyheavy
foods often distress the Elven stomach.

Of Elven foods, most others find the portions
too small, but amazingly tasteful. It is true that we Elves
require less sustenance than N’Tel’Quess. And, it is
also true that N’Tel’Quess find our foods extremely
tasteful. In Silverymoon in particular, I remember that
many of the top chefs of the city stem from
apprenticeships where their masters were Tel’Quessir.

For the most part, we Elves survive on the
fruits of the land, and in the bounty of nature. Though
we eat both plants and meats, side dishes and entrée
dishes that are composed of vegetation are much more
prevalent than side dishes and entrée dishes composed
of meats. Consuming the indigenous vegetation has a
much smaller impact on the local ecosystem than
consuming the animal population. When we do hunt for
game, we always make sure to carefully cull the excess
animal population, as not to upset the natural balance
of things.

Yes, but it's not official and Lord Karsus is an unacademic vigilante who writes what he wants with no regard for sharing his sources. I wouldn't trust the Elves of Faerûn project any further than I can throw it. Which is not at all, since you can't throw something virtual.

Hey i can throw a CD or a floppy pritty damned far though.. *goes to load it*

Most of what ive read in there fits with what ive already gathered in my head from everything ive read and asumed about elves. While it might not have so-in-sos stamp of approvel, it is the best damn set of lore we got. Nothing in there scream as out of the normal, and ive read the whole thing i belive. Only thing you couldnt apply to Amia would be some of the Bonding ablities that are granted but thats just becouse the meta game rule holds over any other.

I dont follow the politics of it, i just see a nice bit of work, that says mostly what i already knew from various sources, and share some things i was unsure about. I could have swore the sources were named in there somewhere though.

I agree. In the old days, the fat were typically the very rich. it was seen as beautiful. I believe the FR setting would work a bit like that. At least a little.

Well, that's exactly the thing I wanted to warn about: those things you were unsure about were probably homebrewn, or you could've found them in the game books you've read. Take the Eaerlann article for example: I scoured the books and internet for any official Eaerlann reference when writing it, but somehow Karsus had managed to add lots of details and color I couldn't locate the source of. I was exaggerating above, but the point was that if there's some juicy trivia you hadn't heard of before, it's probably because it was brewn for the project.

I'm sure there is lore on elf diet, in novels. How much weight you want to put on them is another matter, though, considering authors aren't expected to consult WotC who would then consult Ed about every little detail.

From what I can remember, elves have eaten cheese and bread in taverns. I can think of a few good novels to look, some of them in my shelf, but I guess that takes a bit too much work. I'll check my Evermeet pdf, though.

That's funny. Just the other day I texted someone with my idea of making a jolly fat chick. But she isn't rich, but let's say, has a medical condition. Or is half human, half wilderbeast.

They do.

From the Player's Handbook (3rd edition):
"Halflings speak their own language, which uses the Common script. They write very little in their own language so, unlike dwarves, elves, and gnomes, they don't have a rich body of written work. The halfling oral tradition, however is strong.
While the halfling language isn't secret, halflings are loath to share it with others. Almost all halflings speak Common, since they use it to deal with the people in who's land they are living or through which they are travelling."

From themselves. In NWN and thus Amia, every Shifter has 5 levels of Druid, though it s the option of the character whether they are actually a druid and thus have restrictions etc as such.

A Shifter cannot take the class without having previously had a natural, intrinsic way to polymorph or shift. A Lycanthrope qualifies by virtue of being himself, as does a Fey. A wizard with Polymorph self would apply. A Druid at level 5 with wildshape applies.

Out of curiosity and the sake for a post I'll be making shortly, I'd like to know if we are allowed to use Sigil lore in our roleplay? I noticed via the search function that its mentioned a numerous times but the DM online when I questioned was unsure so I was hoping to get an response up on here before I go on ahead. As for the topic in question it would be that of relation to the Mercy Killers, well mentioning them and such.

Amia does use Sigil in its cosmology, so it should be fine to use it in RP.

Sigil is fine. We even used to have a DM event area for it, a couple years back, and quite a few people actually went to Sigil in-game.

Amia uses a mix of Core and FR cosmologies. Our overall universe is setup like the Great Wheel, with the Alignment Planes extending infinitely in their respective planes, and the FR planes are demiplanes/places within the alignment places. Bright-water, for example, exists as a subsection of the CG plane. The House of the Triad can be found in Celestia. The Hells an Abyss are largely untouched.

As a generality this holds true, though there are exceptions.

DM Edit: Changed the name of Brightwater to Bright-water so that the filter wouldn't be retarded and censor it. :D

Turemi Nomad:

all I have is two paragraphs from the races of faerun book

"After their gods precipitated the fall of the Imaskari Empire in
–2488 DR, the slave-race known as the Mulan migrated westward
to the shores of the Alamber Sea. This migration in turn
displaced the native Turami, who were driven westward along
the southern coast of the Sea of Fallen Stars until they reached
the coastal basin now known as Turmish. Generally tall and muscular,
with dark mahogany skin, flat faces, and curly hair, the
Turami are the primary inhabitants of Turmish, although they
form minority populations in Chessenta, Unther, and Mulhorand
as well.
Speakers of Turmic, the Turami adopted the Thorass alphabet
from Calishite and Chondathan traders. No historical evidence
exists suggesting the existence of a Turami pantheon
distinct from the Faerûnian pantheon commonly venerated
today, although that does not mean that one did not exist. Turmish,
the homeland of most Turami, dates back to the founding
of Alaghôn in –37 DR"

Looking for a bit more information on them then what i provided.

Urmm, you can find more information on Turmish (which as it says is the Turami homeland) in the 'Vilhon Reach' sourcebook. There are also apparently several Polyhedron articles that give more information, but sadly don't have access to those.

Some general stuff:

Vilhon Reach wrote:
The people of Turmish are tall, mahogany-skinned, and generally well-educated,
especially in business and agriculture. Custom dictates that the male merchants of
Turmish have square, neatly trimmed beards. This custom has given rise to the phrase
as square as a Turmishans beard, used to indicate a fair deal throughout the Reach.

The warriors and mercenaries of Turmish pride themselves on their intricately crafted
armor. From the most prominent noble to the least known militiaman, fighters of Turmish
keep their armor in exquisite condition and frequently adorn them with embellishments.
Such embellishments are usually expensive additions, such as gold inlay or gems.
To the people of Turmish, the armor is a status symbol. Valuing ones armor as much as
ones beard is quite common.

Quote:
It has been a long-standing custom for a visitor to anothers
home to bring an exotic dish to share. These
dishes are called greetings gifts”and are used to express
gratitude for the hosts hospitality. Greeting gifts can
range anywhere from vintage Nimpeth wine to a skull
full of snails (called a skullcap treat in Turmish). Of
course, the value of the gift should reflect the stature of
the guest—peasants are hardly expected to bring expensive
wine.

Burying a sacrifice of ones gold and gems has also been
a long-standing tradition in Turmish. By seeding the
earth with your wealth, it is believed that your bounty
will be returned to you tenfold. By and large, this tradition
is a personal ritual, performed at a time that is important
to the individual. It might be during a wedding
anniversary, a birthday, the anniversary of an owners first
day of business, or even upon the birth of a loved one.

Quote:
Most Turmishans set aside one day out of every nine
to "chase the sun".”This day is reserved for pursuing personal
interests such as learning the harp, practicing
spells, spending time with the family, or other pursuits.
When a Turmishan says he will get to something on the
ninth day, it typically means when he has time.

Quote:
For example, the people of Turmish, and in all of the
Reach, wear dots on their foreheads to indicate the degree
of learning they've obtained. One dot means you can read,
two means you can write, and three that you practice magic.

And dunno if it's relevant to your character, but the most popular Gods worshipped in the reach (and therefore in Turmish/by the Turami) are Eldath, Helm, Lliira, Talos, Silvanus, Tyr, Tempus, Malar and Nobanion.

Where do shifters get their powers?

A Shifter cannot take the class without having previously had a natural, intrinsic way to polymorph or shift. A Lycanthrope qualifies by virtue of being himself, as does a Fey.

Is it in game possible to have fey without druid levels and be a shifter? Just out of curiosity..

It's in Amia Abroad, or Amia B. I think if you create you PC on that server it'll give you the option to start there.

This is so sad.

I was thinking of an epic character concept, an evil wizard whom would be insidious and disagreeable towards most. And most notably - Speak under his breath and be generally insulting, refer to himself in third person etc.

But i found out that there already exists such a character. Edwin Odessieron. >.<

Now, The lore question is - Will it be to much of a Plagiate to still make "Da toon", Because i feel...no, I know That i came up with the idéa before i read that stupid article on Forgotten realms wiki.

Edit: And now i've also encountered him in Baldur's gate 2. Oh man, this sucks.

He's a very well known and much loved character (my favourite!), from the BG series.

It's up to you whether you think it's a 'rip-off' to make the character. I was merely informing you that Edwin is very well known, for you to weigh into your decision. It's not a matter of lore whether you make the character or not, but one of taste. Edwin is far form an original character ... angry, bitter wizards are rather common in stories.

Every week you see a new wizard like this on Amia.
