There's a difference between the PnP and NWN description, which is why I asked. I'd assume the PnP would overrule, but it's just a cantrip so I wasn't sure if we'd have a more lenient view on it. Was thinking mages would have a simple cantrip to start a mundane fire rather than pulling out Burning Hands, which is the next thing up that could be considered a fire-starting spell.

PnP just says light too, and makes no mention of heat. Edit: Ah, the NWN description. My bad. I had thought Tormak quoted the NWN one

wow, light again...you can't start fires with light else those pillars of light would incinerate you and that ring of cyan/green red...would melt your finger. maybe continual light would give you sunburn or something but i'd stick with the ol' delayed fireball. or combust. or just fireball. or, use a torch...like the corpses in the single player mode if anyone recalls that. . .(lol) this sort of reminds me of last nights discussions about "fireworks" which in at least one case we're not black powder filled tubes with pointy ends and a string fuse...which was vastly confusing at first. magic != physical chemistry, but are weirdly the same and can be confused. sure light creates heat but "light" the spell does not burn things. so, you got a bulbless LED thanks to magic can't light jack with an LED (this is not a science lesson, I know LED's can be modded into lasers...) so, imo, use a torch or a fire spell... I have another lore question, and have searched the wiki and forums to no avail (w/ search) ok, the triad are all blue cloaked and the war knights are in red, and I know they have something to do with tempus, can you tell me more about war knights please? there is no wiki faction page for them and google as we have established is terrible.

Oh, last night's fireworks.. mine anyways, dunno about Robert's. They consisted of specially trained mages shunting a bunch "special effects magic" into an object and then releasing it all in one go. Think Prestidigitation if it were like a level 3 spell instead of a cantrip, so it lets you do REALLY flashy stuff.

I'm still laughing about the "stage mage", what a catchy name XD I'm assuming rob was the second one, didn't know how the heck you did the huge explosion so I told him "spam it quickened", unless it was the other way around. but yea, magic can be confused with physical objects in dnd. (I was emoting being underwhelmed cause of the clowns and I got a tell, I have to assume metamagic had some part to play with the clowns display...) I did realise, you could RP making fire with "light" by magnifying it in some way, just use your imagination. probably best to pick up a campers fire for visual effect regarding the war knights question, are they basically tempus knights, like you get clerics for certain deitys, and such? and are they considered a faction on amia or do you just become one over time? (ie do you need a formal invitation to be a war knight? (is thinking about it but needs more info. and xp.) )

Robert was the clowns, and I was the stage mages.
The War Knights are a faction on Amia, but Selvec Darkon would know more about if it's a rank or anything.

Does anybody have any resources on the svirfneblin language? All I've pulled up is quotes from the Drizzt series when he travels with the guy who keeps saying 'Magga cammara' or whatever, and I'd like to include some original deep gnome language in his speech to make him seem a little more authentic.

Svirfneblin 101: All nouns are "smurf", all verbs are "smurf" and all adjectives are "smurf". I.E
"*$&$, I just stubbed my #*$&ing toe on the bed!"
Would be
"Smurf! I just smurfed my smurfing smurf on the smurf!"
//spam
Svirneblin speak Gnome and Undercommon. There is no Svirneblin language, as far as I am aware.

what the smurf are you smurfing about? =)
would it not be a dielect of gnomish? or undercommon? maybe one of those things you'd wanna put in your description imo, "the gnome has a deep rumbly sort of voice, to those who would notice of a Svirneblin dielect (gnomish lore)" or something.

Well there's an Amian one is the thing. I'm not sure if it's a common idea in FR as a whole, but if the character's backstory has the isle involved, then that's definitely a valid option.
I suppose there could be some asylums in good/neutral-aligned settlements around FR, but for the most, I'd just figure they'd wait for your to do a crime and lock you up in jail and just refer to you as "the crazy guy down the hall".

I would think that but would they throw someone in jail before a crime.. because they - seem- dangerous.. being insane and all. I know that this was done in a medieval setting.

*shrug* It's possible. I mean, you could get thrown in jail for literally disturbing the peace I guess. And if you incessantly make quacking noises while dancing in your undies in the middle of the street, and it's annoying people, and you don't "move it along citizen", who knows where you might end up.

Am looking for lore on the Corruptor of Fate. Am tossing around if I would rather that or a reskin depending on the lore behind it. Also what all source books are good for Demons and Devils knowledge in lore, besides Book of Vile Darkness?

Corrupter of Fate: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Corruptor_of_fateAs for good demon/devil books, you'd want the Fiendish Codex I and II. The first details demons and the Abyss, and the second is dedicated to devils and the Nine Hells. Excellent source material, and it's not 4.0 garbage.

Another random question for DM's and folks that have been around for a good while.
What's the structural integrity of a soul stone(the thayvian crafting kind)? Strong enough to be used in a weapon? If not the hitting edge, the pommel? And lastly, do they actually contain souls, or is it more of a given name?

The stones were used for enchantment, not forgemetal. They are smilar to gemstones and as such unsuitable for blades or etc.
Whether or not they actualy have souls is up for debate, ICly.

Not really a lore question, but will pertain to ic gaining of lore.
Am planing on having a large amount of dealings with devils in the future, is their a specific dm that has high knowledge or responsibility for handling the devils on amia, or is it more then alright to use random dms that be willing to handle this kind of rp unless it is a large scale plot?

A question on the nodes and their predecessors.
How are the crystal nodes related to the mushrooms, it at all related? Presumably they are related because both were to do with the lines.
What was the IC impact of the mushrooms, say, what is it that was involved in the binding?
Is there any known knowledge on the change from the mushrooms to the crystal nodes? Say, was it a slow process over a week or two? Were there documented observations on the change in any libraries, if so what would they say?
Ummm.... I think that covers my mushroom/node related questions for now. Thanks in advance.

I mainly asked really because I wasn't sure if there was a plot involved. I didn't really know if some of the aspects may have been common knowledge enough to have been picked up by characters by osmosis, so to speak. Also from observations during the change from mushrooms to crystals that my characters would have noticed. Or what the actual process was when binding using the old mushrooms. Was it eating a bit? I can't really remember all the details. Also, did it hurt them? What did they taste like? Did the characters feel different after binding to a mushroom? This stuff is mainly what the characters would know having had the experience so isn't something that would be looked into in a book if they themselves lived it. Are there old threads that you know of I could look more into it?

The mushroom stuff was incoherent and all over the place. It had no real lore and was just a vessel for the potalling system. Today it's oh so much more.

Ah okay. Are we to sweep it under the carpet and pretend it never happened? I'm fine with that, if that's the case. Either or. All's good.

Can anyone direct me to any freely accesibly lore about werewolves in the FR setting? I ofcourse checked the FR and D&D wiki, but found next to nothing there.

I don't think there's a lot about them in general. They're lycanthropes, so they are Malar and Selune's territory. There's a bit about werewolves/werebears and one other were-creature in the monster manual I have but it doesn't say much other than "werewolves are evil and predatory, werebears are good guys, etc."

The problem with were-creatures is that they exist almost solely as cannon-fodder. They are too freakish and evil to be accepted into any normal society (unlike, say, kobolds, who are also freakish and evil but incredibly wimpy), but also have none of their own. I guess this stems from the fact that in 3.0/3.5, lycanthropy is usually the result of a disease rather than being born a natural lycan. It's something that gets cured via magic or a sword to the brain. There are, as noted, gods who sponsor lycans, like Selune and Malar, whose churches even have lycanthrope members, but other than that they're basically just more monsters to fight.
Drow, kobolds, orcs, etc. are all monstrous too, but they exist as whole, separate societies of their own from which members can deviate and differ individually, or as smaller splinter-groups. Lycanthropic characters are not a separate race in the sense of culture or society, however. I think that's what makes them walking lootbins with no real background or fluff.

That's not entirely correct. There are cultures that Lycanthropes can come from, especially natural Lycanthropes. There are entire groups, "families" or "packs" in FR lore of Lycanthropes living together. There are good/neutral Lycanthropes who make it just fine in normal society. Although it's usually kept secret, of course. For a good example of a pack of evil lycanthropes who live in a society, look for "People of the Black Blood."
I like to think of the rage that is within all evil-aligned Lycanthropes like a Drug addicts want for drugs. You can learn to deal with it, but it's always there. The Bloodlust is always there.
As for gods of Lycanthropes, the more well known ones are of course Malar and Selune, but Nobanion, Uthgar, Umberlee, Sebek, Eilistraee, Sehanine Moonbow, among others are also known for their Lycanthropic flock.
There really isn't much to be found besides mechanics online in regards to Lycanthropes though.

Has there ever been anything extensive or even remotely detailed about Orcs and their society, etc.? I've tried looking around and haven't found all that much, other than Oubold Many-Arrows goes all Warcraft on us and founds a kingdom.
If I recall, their language is simply a form of giant speech, or am I mistaken?

isn't that statue on cordor something to do with a past orcish battle of some sort? not really sure what to suggest other than read the wiki timeline, I haven't seen head or tail of orc's lately. plenty of kobolds/gnomes/goblins/dragon/drow/dwarves though. I think we need more orcs. I have a sort of...lore question, also sort of a request, in the amia traders federation forums there is a thread dated 01/08/08 talking about stock and supply and demand, and changing prices. now, I am very very new to selling things, and it was made blindingly obvious that I don't know the standard price of certain items (specifically blank scrolls, which I think I got from drops, and regular shops assumingly underprice them like metals and made weapons.) is there a more up to date list of prices, or, prescia or someone can you help me out with some examples of price lists just to get the ball rolling? or is there a base price list you can add/take percentages from thats relevant to amia? (im thinking nwn price lists are a little wrong, especially since nearly everything in the main game is underpriced hardcore. unless you get the price fix mod from the vault.) also I noticed no one wanted hand crafted weapons, except the darksteel greatsword I made, which still took about 2 hours real time to sell. should I just wait until I can mythal my stuff, or get master smith and try to make better than above average quality weapons description wise? i'm thinking its cause theres no +3 attack bonuses rather than the designs...also many people we're looking for simpler weapons (long/short swords, armours, etc, which unfortunatly I didn't have in stock) which is why I think an update of said stock thread would be awesome, since the job system came in anyways, lots more stock! i'm assuming full plate is still way up there. one last quick question, does burning logs to make carbon come under alchemy because I have failed many times now and I have points in refiner. thus why most of my stuff is iron and not steel. I say kind of lore because it is really, the merchantile trade in amia is rather well done but difficult to access at first imo. I'm not discounting IC trial and error either, i'd just like to be a fair priced tradesman, and its hard to do that if you think your overpricing/underpricing things. the npc shops really don't help either, they offer you far too low a price most of the time and if you go by that you end up underpricing all your gear when you sell it (if you take that price and add like 10% still rather low compared to the resale prices.) your help is appreciated muchly. regarding lycans/vamps also, is it similar to oblivion rules? (after about a week with no curse removal/aid from clerics and such, you WILL turn? or...? also I know you must be approved, but lore wise...) also do silver crafted weapons work as they should in this respect? (like, +2 vs lycan/undead/half dead/whatever you'd term it as. like the darksteel is vs elves?) I guess I had more questions that I originally thought. *stops now* oh yea, I wouldn't say cannon fodder, how are you going to know ICly that someone in particular is a lycan unless you watch them change? in which case your intestines are probably in danger (recalls dog soldiers. bad film )

A humanoid or monstrous humanoid slain by a vampire’s energy drain rises as a vampire spawn 1d4 days after burial.
If the vampire instead drains the victim’s Constitution to 0 or lower, the victim returns as a spawn if it had 4 or less HD and as a vampire if it had 5 or more HD. In either case, the new vampire or spawn is under the command of the vampire that created it and remains enslaved until its master’s destruction. At any given time a vampire may have enslaved spawn totaling no more than twice its own Hit Dice; any spawn it creates that would exceed this limit are created as free-willed vampires or vampire spawn. A vampire that is enslaved may create and enslave spawn of its own, so a master vampire can control a number of lesser vampires in this fashion. A vampire may voluntarily free an enslaved spawn in order to enslave a new spawn, but once freed, a vampire or vampire spawn cannot be enslaved again.
Vampire Weaknesses
For all their power, vampires have a number of weaknesses. Repelling a Vampire
Vampires cannot tolerate the strong odor of garlic and will not enter an area laced with it. Similarly, they recoil from a mirror or a strongly presented holy symbol. These things don’t harm the vampire—they merely keep it at bay. A recoiling vampire must stay at least 5 feet away from a creature holding the mirror or holy symbol and cannot touch or make melee attacks against the creature holding the item for the rest of the encounter. Holding a vampire at bay takes a standard action.
Vampires are also unable to cross running water, although they can be carried over it while resting in their coffins or aboard a ship.
They are utterly unable to enter a home or other building unless invited in by someone with the authority to do so. They may freely enter public places, since these are by definition open to all. Slaying a Vampire
Reducing a vampire’s hit points to 0 or lower incapacitates it but doesn’t always destroy it (see the note on fast healing). However, certain attacks can slay vampires. Exposing any vampire to direct sunlight disorients it: It can take only a single move action or attack action and is destroyed utterly in the next round if it cannot escape. Similarly, immersing a vampire in running water robs it of one-third of its hit points each round until it is destroyed at the end of the third round of immersion. Driving a wooden stake through a vampire’s heart instantly slays the monster. However, it returns to life if the stake is removed, unless the body is destroyed. A popular tactic is to cut off the creature’s head and fill its mouth with holy wafers (or their equivalent). Vampires also sport DR of Silver alignment, meaning yes, Alchemically Silvered weapons are especially effective against them. However, this is not solely an undead or lyncathope thing in DnD: Many Lawful outsiders are also vulnerable to alchemical Silvering, much like how Cold Iron tends to be the bane of Chaos. ~ Quote: Lycanthropes are humanoids or giants who can transform themselves into animals. In its natural form, a lycanthrope looks like any other members of its kind, though natural lycanthropes and those who have been afflicted for a long time tend to have or acquire features reminiscent of their animal forms. In animal form, a lycanthrope resembles a powerful version of the normal animal, but on close inspection, its eyes (which often glow red in the dark) show a faint spark of unnatural intelligence.
Lycanthropy can be spread like a disease. Sometimes a lycanthrope begins life as a normal humanoid or giant who subsequently contracts lycanthropy after being wounded by a lycanthrope. Such a creature is called an afflicted lycanthrope. Other lycanthropes are born as lycanthropes, and are known as natural lycanthropes.
Lycanthropy As An Affliction
When a character contracts lycanthropy through a lycanthrope’s bite (see above), no symptoms appear until the first night of the next full moon. On that night, the afflicted character involuntarily assumes animal form and forgets his or her own identity, temporarily becoming an NPC. The character remains in animal form, assuming the appropriate alignment, until the next dawn.
The character’s actions during this first episode are dictated by the alignment of its animal form. The character remembers nothing about the entire episode (or subsequent episodes) unless he succeeds on a DC 15 Wisdom check, in which case he becomes aware of his lycanthropic condition.
Thereafter, the character is subject to involuntary transformation under the full moon and whenever damaged in combat. He or she feels an overwhelming rage building up and must succeed on a Control Shape check (see below) to resist changing into animal form. Any player character not yet aware of his or her lycanthropic condition temporarily becomes an NPC during an involuntary change, and acts according to the alignment of his or her animal form.
A character with awareness of his condition retains his identity and does not lose control of his actions if he changes. However, each time he changes to his animal form, he must make a Will save (DC 15 + number of times he has been in animal form) or permanently assume the alignment of his animal form in all shapes.
Once a character becomes aware of his affliction, he can now voluntarily attempt to change to animal or hybrid form, using the appropriate Control Shape check DC. An attempt is a standard action and can be made each round. Any voluntary change to animal or hybrid form immediately and permanently changes the character’s alignment to that of the appropriate lycanthrope. Changing Form
Changing form is a standard action. If the change is involuntary, the character performs the change on his next turn following the triggering event. An afflicted character who is not aware of his condition remains in animal form until the next dawn. An afflicted character who is aware of his or her condition (see above) can try to resume humanoid form following a change (voluntary or involuntary) with a Control Shape check, but if he fails his check, he remains in animal (or hybrid) form until the following dawn. Curing Lycanthropy
An afflicted character who eats a sprig of belladonna (also called wolfsbane) within 1 hour of a lycanthrope’s attack can attempt a DC 20 Fortitude save to shake off the affliction. If a healer administers the herb, use the character’s save bonus or the healer’s Heal modifier, whichever is higher. The character gets only one chance, no matter how much belladonna is consumed. The belladonna must be reasonably fresh (picked within the last week).
However, fresh or not, belladonna is toxic. The character must succeed on a DC 13 Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Strength damage. One minute later, the character must succeed on a second DC 13 save or take an additional 2d6 points of Strength damage.
A remove disease or heal spell cast by a cleric of 12th level or higher also cures the affliction, provided the character receives the spell within three days of the lycanthrope’s attack.
The only other way to remove the affliction is to cast remove curse or break enchantment on the character during one of the three days of the full moon. After receiving the spell, the character must succeed on a DC 20 Will save to break the curse (the caster knows if the spell works). If the save fails, the process must be repeated.
Characters undergoing this cure are often kept bound or confined in cages until the cure takes effect.
Only afflicted lycanthropes can be cured of lycanthropy. ~ Regarding the statue in Cordor: Do you mean the one that references The Horde? That is a past series of DM events and a very large plotline from years ago.

belladona is wolvesbane O_o i've been trying to figure that out since 1st ed (it just says wolvesbane and has no description XD) um, regarding cold iron..."This iron, mined deep underground, known for its effectiveness against fey creatures" http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialMaterials.htm#ironCold are you talking about fey as chaos or something else? not sure if my source is accurate. ed: yep that statue um, quick question regarding your last post, would a resist disease ring be powerful enough to prevent turning rather than a remove disease spell later?

Some creature types, including Fey, are weak to Cold Iron. However, on a more typical scale, Chaotic Outsiders and other creatures of an extreme chaotic bent in DnD all tend to share a weakness to wepaon made of Cold Iron. The same holds true for Lawful Outsiders and extremely lawful focused monsters (such as Zenythiri, or some planar constructs) and Alchemically Silvered weapons.

anyone? Thanks. "Art of Death" in the libraries of Amia. It's not an exact answer to your question OOCly but it provides some IC insight and would be found in Tarkuul along wihth books written by the same character about most every ritual documented in the linked topic. On a more general scale, the arm graft is detiled incredibly simply in the sourcebooks: Either you have the class Palemaster and you do t "automatically" at level 6, or you take the feat Undead Graft, which allows you to construct undead grafts of various types and stitch them to your flesh after amputating the old part.

one more somewhat urgent lore question, again regarding tempus and the war knights (finally figured out at least who's who now. gotta love the storyline threads DM and PC posted.) k, i'm not yet a war knight of any sort officially, but I assume followers of tempus might don a red cloak, ye wiki has this to say, though talking about clerics in particular I also imagine this refers to knights and mages ? Quote: "When not in battered armor, clerics of Tempus often wear helms or steel skullcaps, though they are careful never to cover their faces, for such close emulation of Tempus is thought to be an affront to the Lord of Battles. Some of the fanatical wandering clerics never remove all their armor at any time, but in the temples of the big cities clergy are rarely seen in armor except at ceremonies held before armies march or a siege begins. The formal robes of a cleric of Tempus always sport trim the crimson hue of fresh blood, but vary in overall color from place to place and rank to rank, with darker-colored robes worn by those of lower ranks. Most war clerics wear ceremonial garments of brown or purple. Red or amber is worn by senior clergy, and yellow or white by those of the most exalted rank. Aside from their trusty battleaxes, many senior clerics of Tempus also favor spiked gauntlets as a mark of their station. " so, when does brown and purple apply, and is cherry red a decent choice concidering my level, rank (none as yet just a blade, thus dark) or what would you suggest? or is it, brown, purple, dark red, red, amber, yellow, white? I'm generally struggling with the lore, getting there though. also does any of the rank stuff here apply to non-clerics? one last thing concerning battered armour, can adamantine rust or degrade whatsoever in any way? idk if this will help with the orc info hunt but http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orc_%28Dungeons_%26_Dragons%29 and this could be useful for idea's if you want to go subrace half-orc, or just for inspiration. http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/variantRaces.htm

I think your answer could be found IC by discussing it with the War Knights themselves.

I think I got my answer ICly, heck knows what purple and brown are used for though. the wiki's information is WAY out compared to what I just learned. though again, it related to tempus and not the faction.
"does adamantine degrade in anyway whatsoever?" bump.

In PnP, Adamantine disintegrates in sunlight unless it is specially treated. But I think this is an old rulling like from pre-3.5. Usually now it's considered to be fine, I think. It's actually considered one of the strongest and resilient metals. In fact, weapon qualities of "+5" are sometimes call Adamantine, at least in PnP, and sometimes things with resistance are noted as like 10/Adamantine rather than 10/+5. At least IIRC.
I don't think it would be prone to degrade under normal circumstances. However, I'm sure adamantine weapons can be sundered by some creature with enough STR.

how far back pre-3.5? *is a 1st ed player* hm, its debatable weather to play that out or not, might be nice to eventually re-descript my personal one to read rusted adamant or somesuch, and "drop" the bonus down 1. (its not +5 by default :'( needs mythal. probably a good thing balance wise. terrible for sales though, I mean if you don't want adamantine what do you want?)

Amia and NWN are based off of 3rd and 3.5 ed. So it's current. I can't exactly find where it's mentioned that adamantine is considered +5, but it's likely a fairly recent thing, though not 4e. It's a confusing thing, I guess, since it's a mythological metal and as well a magical material in all editions that pretty much gets a new set of descriptions and rules with each one, I find. In any case if saying you have "rusted" adamant is your goal, I don't see why not. It's not impervious to degradation, I'm just saying I don't think it degrades any more than other magical metals would, save in the case of direct sunlight. But it would be safe to assume anything forged through the weapon system or found as wares is "specially treated" to resist it. Perhaps your PC made some adamantine wares, forget to specially treat them, so they rusted and degraded a little bit before he finished the process? Here's some links with very basic info on Adamantine, I'm not sure which editions they apply to: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Adamantinehttp://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Adamantinehttp://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialmaterials.htm

its not so much of a goal more than will it eventually rust on a bonus note, I found out adamantine technically exists! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adamantine_Spar <-- IRL "Adamantine is used often by Drow elves of the underdark, and their adamantine weapons are usually swords that are magically blessed. Their magical strength and sharpness fade if brought into contact with direct sunlight." ah I see. *ignores metagaming info to do with mining.......* in that case maybe I should go all angeal like and not use the blade unless nessicarry (crisis core referance...) I kind of like non-monk fistfights I just figured out what Colapops meant XD
