It's actually considered one of the strongest and resilient metals. In fact, weapon qualities of "+5" are sometimes call Adamantine, at least in PnP, and sometimes things with resistance are noted as like 10/Adamantine rather than 10/+5. At least IIRC.

I don't think it would be prone to degrade under normal circumstances. However, I'm sure adamantine weapons can be sundered by some creature with enough STR.

in 2e, adamantine crumbled in sunlight.

In 3.5, it doesn't. It doesn't rust, either.

Any lore known on Thunder Twins? I have nothing but basic stuff from the passage in the FR Setting under Dwarves.

I usually don't call them that unless it's too hot out for a bra.

Can't find it on FRwiki go figure, but am I correct in recalling that Blue Dragons, as a rule of thumb, are usually more magic adept than the other chromatics? Or at least, use magic more often as a species?

I can't find anything in the Monster Manual to support that, and they all seem to have reasonably similar amounts and powers of spell-like abilities.

Black Dragons are the more adept mages. Blues, Green, and Whites favor physical attacks with Greens favoring ambush tactics. Blues use illusions and physical attacks and are excellent sound mimicker (iirc... mrm, Draconomicon). Reds do whatever it takes to win.

I think it's a fairly short step from "whatever it takes" to "phenomenal cosmic power" for red dragons. They're smart so they know that magic is the way to go.

And if the other Monster Manuals are any indication, Tiamat's little experiments with wyrmkin indicate that red dragons make the best mages anyways; there's an entire species of redspawn devoted to magic. They look badass, too. Redspawn arcaniss!

Thanks, I think that's where I got it confused. Blues can do illusions and ventriloquism exceptionally well to catch prey, so I likely associated that with a higher use of magic.

I just looked that up. I think it's false advertising to have "Godslayer" in the name of a monster that only has twelve hit dice.

Books=not my thing. Movie=worse than books. Even twilight fans will agree with that. And the movie sucks because the fans suck and have set girls standards WAYYY higher than they used to be. I miss the days when I didnt have to sparkle to impress a girl.... Im running low on glitter.

Alpha, I can't find anything on "Thudner Twins" and forgotten realms. What exactly are you talking about? Are they deities or entities or something? All I can find is that "Thunder Twins" is apparently a feat that can be taken with twin PCs, but I don't think that's what you're talking about.

Earlier in FR (I don't know when) The "Thunder Blessing" was bestowed upon the Dwarven Race as a whole. Dwarves often only have one child when they give birth and birth was a very big deal for Dwarves at the time. The Gods' Thunder Blessing made female dwarves hellaciously more fertile to help rekindle and repopulate the Dwarven Race. A side effect of this was that many Dwarven women began giving birth to twins for the first time in their race's history. IN honor of the Thunder Blessing, these extraordinary twins were given the name "Thunder Twins". That's the basic skinny.

semi lore question, while polymorphed do you take on language, and other attributes of the race you have transformed into? for example

[chicken] buck buck... or [giant] I eat your babies! "ekk ye fung sho", or...res evil style zombies: aag...brains....*shuffles slowly toward the nearest living being*

=) I don't think I RPed polying into a wyrm well with the "[drac] gah I hate dragons...what the?" thing though I should have growled or something. however, I can't imagine you'd be speaking normally in most forms, any shifters comments would be great since you guys are masters of this skill.

Nope.

You're still you, just in another form. You gain no information of that creature's language or social skills. Often, you gain that creatures natural and magical attributes though. I.E. Petrifying gaze in basilisk form, fire breath in dragon form and mooing... in cow form. :)

You can only talk in forms that possess the physical (or magical) means through which to speak. So if you turn into a giant or a dragon, you can still speak your common language just fine, as both creatures can naturally speak. Turn into a bear or other animal and no, you cannot speak. Those animals naturally do not have a means to make the sounds of a language, but you can pantomime, roar, buck, etc just fine, because those are the form's and creature's natural means of communication.

SN: There is no "animal" language. Druids/rangers/etc if they speak to a creature are doing so through empathy, which really doesn't require speech in the first place. A majority of creatures do not have languages simply based on their name. There is no giant, Kobold, or zombie "language" for example. But there are Jotun(the common tongue between giants used by a lot of large humanoids), Draconic(which is spoken by many draconic and reptilian creatures including kobolds) and "BRRAAAIINS", respectively for each of the 3 creatures. This isn't so much directed at your question glyph as me just wanting to clear up the misconception. Just hurts my soul a little bit the few times I've seen a druids in animal shape(different animals at that) going "[Animal] Yeah, I was down by the market yesterday, blahblahblah."

Not entirely correct. You can, in fact, talk to animals. The spell "Speak with Animals" (A Druid, Ranger and Bard PnP spell) allows you to talk in whatever language you decide to speak and have the animal understand what you're saying. As well, it can make it's little animals noises which would make sense in your head for you to understand.

Aside from that, yep, spot on.

That dosn't change the fact that there is no "Animal" language.

Sure doesn't. Or any specific animal languages for that matter, like "wolf", "lion", "rabbit" and "owl."

Just saying that it is possible to talk to them, but only through a spell, never through any sort of mundane "language".

guess I should stop using [drac] in wyrmling form then...i'll just growl and screech and such. also I found the cow form to be rather amusing, moo! XD what else can you say as a cow, other than *using these to get a hint across without speaking, ie "motions toward the exit" *

i'm assuming full dragon morph is the one that can speak common, and someone, you know who you are ;) scared the living bejesus out of us with balor form and choosing not to speak at first, well played. what about construct forms? gather you can't speak in those.

also I have little chance of being taught draconic regardless of my final int stat, being that dragons killed the starwind's father and all. would be sweet to be able to say "[drac] I will eat your grandchildren and stamp on your dog." or a simple "[drac] time to die feind" though but I don't think the tutor would be pleased or not weilding a weapon afterward, any way to learn languages like that without having love for the race/language/etc in question?

I think I'd better learn fey speak though considering my choice of companion. love to change that from green to an autumn redish colour but that is a further down the line idea that requires DC.

I can't imagine someone in chicken form speaking normally that just kills it. mega fail.

thank you for your help everyone, i'll try to figure this out with which form does what and when I can and cannot speak "normally"

ed: if your a druid and you use animal speak on me I can play along, im all for pnp stuff =)

I got a question. Human Tieflings come in Abyssal and Devil, Chaotic, lawful. For the commen person I don't think they would be easy to keep apart on appearance alone. But if an abyssal tiefling runs into a devil one. Would he/she see it, sense it, feel it somehow and also if say a normal person runs into what. What is the chance that by seeing, or magic or whatever they'll figure out from what blood the tiefling is without asking.

Wyrms are dragons, so they can speak common and any other language you know, pretty much.

ah, guess i'm thinking too jurassic park here...wyrmlings remind me of those little evil things.

you could potentially use the pnp spell, wizard spell, level 1, discern bloodline, "know the race of one creature per level" of course they could refuse or metagame after asking this semi oocly.

3.5 spells, google, first link.

There wouldn't be any innate "sensing" that one is the other. As in, you have a devil-descended tiefling run into an abyssal one, they could likely carry on a conversation and never know the difference, unless their appearance is exposed and one has knowledge of the characteristics of the other. In other words, a regular human has the same chance of figuring out the difference as the tiefling if he has no lore on the subject, just like the human. "Sensing" things like that right off the bat is something left to angels and high-tier clerics and such.

BUT, it would be completely legit for your diabolic tiefling to reason an abyssal tiefling is such by his actions or looking at characteristics. Or by having knowledge on the subject through past experience or Lore. IIRC, there are also some low-level sense alignment spells for Cleric, that will tell you chaotic or lawful, but that's PnP so you'd have to get permission. And even then, there could always be a chaotic diabolic tiefling or a lawful demonic tiefling, though I'd say they'd be less likely. Short of them admitting it or RPing specifically diabolic/demonic traits in their bio, there's really no 100% sure way of knowing. You can still guess at it just fine though.

Hence Toag's increasing split personality, being a chaotic bard, at most neutral and being part of a lawful order. Then I would say he doesn't have much more then 10 to at most 15% tainted blood. What I resreached 20% was the max for tieflings.

On languages: Just what kind of elvish do FR elves speak anyway? Do they use Tolkiens classic Sindarin or Quenya, or is it only homebrewn phrases with no basis in any complete language?

Yes, but what is elven in FR? Is it an imaginary language, or an actual (though constructed) language like sindarin?

Elfin Languages
The elfin dialects and the areas they are used are Silvanesti (Fair) South High Forest, Qualinesti (High) North High Forest, Kagonesti (Wild & Wood) Aglarond, southwest Elven Court, Dargonesti (Great Sea) Shining Sea, Dimernesti (Fallen Star) Sea of Fallen Stars, Lyranesti (Moon) East Elven Court and the High Forest, and Cudynesti (Gold) Principally in Evermeet, trace settlements in Rawlinswood. Regal Elfin is the primary language of Evermeet.

Common (Elfin)
An elfin trade language, principally spoken by humans wishing to trade with elves. It is derived from some of the more archaic parts of Silvanesti, Qualinesti, Lyranesti and Cudynesti. The elves make no efforts to modify this trade languages as it suits their needs.

Regal Elfin
Regal Elfin is the language of the Elfin Court and the language used most often between elves of differing clans or tribes. It tends to be quite formal, though not cumbersome. This language combines the best aspects of the elfin dialects into a smoothly flowing, easily recognized language. Regal Elfin can communicate with all other elfin dialects to rank 8, but is not limited when the other speakers are using Regal Elfin as well.

Espruar (special)
Silver Elfin Runes. A runic language used to express elfin thoughts. Like Dethek, all elfin languages (not common elfin though) are the same when written.

D'Nesti (Aquatic)
Though some aquatic elves spend most of their time high and dry, most inhabit the depths and shallows of the waters. As the spoken tongue does not carry well underwater, the aquatic elves have developed a language combining body motion with sounds derived from Regal Elfin, its parent tongue, to convey meaning.

Where a dry elf would say something like "I am going to the house", an aquatic elf would say his name while making gestures to indication movement and then house. Because of this non-verbal streamlining, aquatic elves sometimes have difficulty expressing themselves to their cousins.

Migonesti (Grey)
The grey elves have been out by the Frozen Forest for so long, they have become their own independent quasi-nation. Their language has diverged from Regal Elfin so much that is incompatible. The language itself is sharp and harsh to be easily understood over the howling winds.

Takanesti (Dark)
The drow use this language that has evolved to their underground environment into a usually soft, whispering spoken language. A variety of facial expressions and hand or body motions have been given meanings enabling drow to communicate in complete silence. The drow, alas, are nearly everywhere in Underdark.

I'm a little foggy on plane-mechanics. It's likely supposed to be like that for mystery, but I want to know something specific, but I have to make sure I have the other info correct too.

Toril and the solar system it inhabits are on the Prime Material plane, correct?

The other planes, such as the Shadow Plane, Celestia, the Abyss, etc, could they techincally have planets? Or is the physical "earth" that people walk on there actually a planet of some sort, possibly with other systems?

I know a few planes are "all expansive", in which case the ground in assumed to extend in all directions forever(an thereby incapable of being a planet since it doesn't wrap around). But couldn't you even then if you had some method of flight, go straight up and eventually reach something beyond in that "plane", provided that plane has something else..out there? ...Am I understanding all of this correctly? I'm trying to differentiate between my idea of a "plane" being a "realm of existence" more so than an actual physical location. x(

FR cosmology making my head hurt...

negative energy sucks the life out of you (RP wise...)
positive plane makes mortals explode, not kidding. (this is preventable for like, a maximum of a very short period of time...)
air is like skydiving
in fact type: srd d20 : into google and it has them all there =) including what gravity acts like etc

also an "infinate" plane on a more primal plane isn't nessicarily the only thing that exists within the whole. best not ponder too much, also the 3.5 DMG has a nice section on it if I recall.

also I think earth plane is the harshest, instant death in most cases.

they arn't planets they are "dimensions"

oh can they HAVE planets O_o shadow unlikely its a void, and earth is nothing but planet, so I guess it depends on your defenition.

Think of each plane as a separate Universe, each infinite in its own right.

Abeir Toril and its surroundings and all the Crystal Spheres are (assumedly) on the Prime Material Plane.

The other planes are just that. Planes. I don't believe they have "Solar systems" or anything. I doubt DnD thought it through very much when they made them. They're, at best, "realms of existence", like you said. I don't personally see them as being around planets, with solar systems and etc. They're just... there. In the infinitely expansive planes, it simply goes on and on. The plane itself I guess you could say "generates" these new horizons on perception and then permanently appends them to the plane. If you went straight up up up you'd just keep going up up up but never really "Go" anywhere. The plane is just permanently appending more 'sky' in front of you.

Some planes are finite and some planes do wrap around, in which case you can easily hit the "End of the World". This tends to differ by plane; for example, when you hit Mechanus' last gear, it's just empty space past that.

Meh... that's kinda disappointing then. That means the Prime is unique in that it's the only one to contain a stellar "universe" so to speak and the other planes are the same in that they're all actually physical realms full of either "stuff" forever or "stuff" then "nothing".

But wait... IIRC correctly, Lunia has stars in its sky...

So I'm guessing the same up-up-up thing would just never bring you to one of those stars if your were to fly? Or you just wouldn't go anywhere if you attempted to Greater teleport there? Or might one just arrive there to find they are merely orbs of light in the sky, I suppose. I know Celestia is kinda weird anyway in that each mountain is considered "infinite" in its height, but each one is somehow still shorter than the mountain "above" it, in terms of the layers of the heavens. At least until 4e apparently gave it definite dimensions...

Which sux, because the idea of the heavens all being infinite, but somehow still being greater or smaller than the others is the kind of extra-existential, non-mortal-bound logic I'd expect a Heaven to have.

"Celestia" is also technically core cosmology and so can follow its own rules.

But we use it in Amia anyways!

How are Revanants viewed by other Religions?
Specifically Revanants created by Doombringers of Hoar for the specific purpose of vengance?

I know some Gods are all out crazy about undead, but this would be for the Revanant of a certain former animal companion. It is a nuetral aligned creature. Would the Undead Hating Clergies yell "I shall smite thee".

Or is it semi-tolerated, kind of like the undead guard thingies for the elves.

Undead creatures are normally non sentient or are evil. For the most part it seems the Undead Hating Clergies hate when sentient creatures are used. Somehting about ripping the soul from Kelli's wall or whatever.

If the creature isnt on Kellie's wall, and has no illfeelings towards the just. What would be their stance?

[[I realize of course many people's pc's might still hate undead in all forms. But What Im asking for is the Dogma, kind of a DMs say how the God's would see it?]]

It has to do with how they're created. Elven guardians (baelnorns) are created through holy powers i believe. While most other undead are necromantic powers. A cleric of Lathandar would hate anything created with necromantic energy. Its how they're made more than the fact they died and now are back. Unless your a kelemvorite and believe death should be final and complete then idk.

This is how I've always thought it worked.
