The rare Abominable Snow Beast that lairs in icy caves and the canyons of the Frozen Wastes. They are an apex predator and eat most everything that moves around there except for the undead. There are not all that many of them (despite what the spawns would have you believe).

Other larger creatures include the Yetis and the Manticores. The Manticores are carnivorous, the Yetis are omnivorous. There are also plenty of non hostile snowbased wildlife, but nothing so big as the above.

Don't really know any other place to ask this so here it goes.

I know gods can only be killed within their realms, and when acting outside they appear as avatars. So what happens when the avatar of a god gets killed on the prime material? I assume the god would not really die but just get banished to his home, possibly weakened?

The god gets severely weakened, depending on how much of their essence they put into the avatar.

Auril Questions again.

Lawful neutral works, right?

Lawful Neutral + Neutral Evil + Chaotic Neutral. According to the DnD Wiki

Then technically, True Neutral works to?

Thanks, that's kind of what I am looking for. Would this affect their spell granting powers and such, would their clergy be aware of such happening?

A gods avatar coming down as a something they've put a lot of effort into isn't exactly something that gets done in secret, and its death is usually very public if it gets killed. Exactly how it weakens them I'm not sure, but I'd imagine it would work in the same manner as having less worshippers. Whether their followers know from prayer alone is something I'm not sure of, either, although they would likely learn from news (as I said, this stuff tends to happen pretty publicly).

As for effecting their abilities to give spells, I don't think it does. Namely because from what I've looked up such is never specifically mentioned (IIRC), and it seems like something that would specifically be mentioned if it did. Then again, the weakest demigod can grant spells, so I doubt a Greater Power, no matter how weakened, would ever be stuck for that.

Most of my knowledge from this comes from when I used to play my Bhaalyn and when Bhaal's avatar was killed (before the Time of Troubles).

How does TN technically work? PnP makes it extremely clear that -only- NE, LN and CN priests are permitted for Auril. No TN, NE, CE, nothing. However, as has been stated already, multiple times, Amia has it set to CE, LE and NE only. It's up to the DM's to tell if it was on purpose or an oversight. It's their call.

Na. Kelemvor took it from Cyric, who took it from Myrkul. Jegal hated and still hates Cyric so he was pretty damn glad to see him gone. He gets along very well with Kelemor.

Any idea what Celestial sounds like as a language? ..I could have sworn I once read somewhere that it was something like Latin, but that seems almost obvious.

celestial is celestial, everything in dnd was originally based on something in the real world.

by that I mean if you can imagine heavenly voices what do you hear? personally, this would be classical music =) to me. kind of...its one of those "couldn't describe it if I wanted to" things.

also egyptian pre-dates latin and by the sylible makes more sense on a deeper level. but please don't drag me into that one here I have had enough arguing about the pyramids for one lifetime.

so yea, think angels and whispy voices, and epic yet not mind destroying sounds. also elven isn't too far off imho.

stuff like draconic and abyssal I imagine is harsher and more....welsh for lack of a better term. two ll's means a noise you cannot translate through text alone. the lawful evil language being slightly more ssssnake like.

of course if you want to know what "actual" celestial is written like-

------------------
I stand corrected.

http://www.tilansia.com/langconvert.php

ri yrelnel sz casel il whzqr

hi there my name is glyph, in celestial.

(this thing has abyssal celestial, al bhed you name it.)

ed: fixed, all one post now.

Celestial is described most adequately as "The celestial choir". So yes, the lilting latin, very musical almost quality, is Celestial.

Infernal and Abyssal are in comparison, incredibly harsh and in Abyssal's case, very guttural.

Draconic is also a very guttural, and very verbose language, with incredibly long words.

The Elemental languages are said to, when spoken "properly", sound similar to the elements they represent. A calm conversation in Aquan is said to resemble the vocal equivalent of a calm brook, while an Aquan speaker enraged sounds as a waterfall or a raging river rapid.

Is there any information on what sort of ethnic groups of humans that live in Amn and Athkatla, and what their culture is? Since I can't find any human ethnicity named "Amnian", I assume that it is a melting pot of many, in particular Tethyrians and Calishites?

Yeah, it's a major trade city so it would have lots of different people, but Calishite and Tethyrian are the main inhabitants of the Amn region.

So basically, a Celestial sounds a bit like a beautiful church-like choir/opera singer, while the Fiends sound like Death Metal/Black Metal vocalists? :D

Male Celestial, Female Celestial.

Male Abyssal, Female Abyssal and Male Infernal, Female Infernal.

Just a general question:

If a palemaster shapeshifts into a red dragon, can she still use her undead arm attack? I saw it done tonight and I thought it was questionable.

I would call it questionable as well. The ability generates from the negative energy focus and implement that is the undead arm, and when you transform, you no longer have the undead arm for the duration. I'll buy that you're still partially mummified or what have you, but since it's specifically that grafted arm that gives you the ability, and you don't have the graft when you shapeshift, then you shouldn't have the graft attacks either.

I agree, perhaps if they had a skeletal zombie skinchange for the spell it would be acceptable to use it still.

ed: to be clear on that I mean a skeletal zombie dragon, skinchange. for the red dragon shapachange spell.

Okay. Cool. Thanks!

On another note regarding that, I think that if they shapechanged into a dracolich or undead guardian or something then they probably could, but red? Meh.

I just made a new character. He is a druid of Akadi. My question is does Akadi support druids?

I figured she would because she is nature's embodiment of air and goddess of elemental air. I couldn't find anything about druids in any lore I read about her. I couldn't find anything about druids in any lore I read about the other three gods of the elements: Grumbar, Istishia, and Kossuth. It just makes sense that they would support druids, at least to me.

Unsure... The ForgottenRealmsWiki doesn't say a thing about druids. Tormak or Ironangel may have a different viewpoint though, but ... It doesn't look like she supports them.

But well, She's an elemental. And druids work with the elements i guess.

Well, there are certainly Kossuthian Druids. Off Island DM Faction. So, don't see why the others couldn't support them, either.

In PnP, she doesn't support Druids. It used to be that none of the primordial lords supported Druids, but that was changed to allow only Kossuth to have Druids in Faiths and Pantheons. Why they didn't allow the other primordials Druids is stupid and beyond me. I think all the primordial lords should be allowed Druids. It makes sense.

I wouldn't say so. I think a druid of Akadi is a very good concept that offers different oppertunities than the usual tree-hugging one. I once wanted to make a druid of Grumbar, but never go that far. I'd see elemental primeordials as very suitable for druids as they do infact represent the purest form of the elements.

I'm rather sceptic to conclud that there exist no druids of Akadi just because they are not mentioned on the FR Wiki page. I believe that until there is a DM ruling saying that there are none, one could go ahed and make one and play him/her at the best of their abilities.

That's a bad advice.

It's like making a Dragon Character, Level it up and "THEN" Find out you're not allowed to do that.

Except that making a dragon character is an entirely different matter -and- has a DM rulng against it. At worst he will have to change his deity. Or he could just PM a DM and find out.

the druid can worship akadi, but notget spells from her. Another one of the Gods, who sees that her worship of winds/elemental blahblahblah further's their agenda on the isle could grant her the spells.

I like what Pigeon said. Worship Akadi but get spells from one of the other deities. It could be any one of the nature deities and technically my character doesn't even have to know who is giving him his spells. *shrug*

As I was looking up deities that would give my character spells, I ran across this.
http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Aerdrie_Faenya
This is the fey version of Akadi and she grants druid spells. I really don't see why Akadi wouldn't.

damn wikis down again...ehm...

something like "those who pay lip service to other gods are not returned by their deity and instead form the wall of dead that surrounds (kelemvors home town. in the afterlife.)"

so lore wise especially if your a cleric, don't pray to two gods. (unless your faking it ;) )

You could worship Akadi and get your spells from Malar? They're both furies. Maybe even just be a Druid of the furies and revere em' all.

I'm not sure where everyone is getting all of this "If it doesn't say she has druids, she doesn't". Just the same way people think with if a god doesn't have monk orders, you can't be a monk of that god. It's just not true.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure you can be a druid of any of the nature/elemental deities, primordial or not. The distinction of primordials is really only made in 4e, when Abeir come backs and $@&#s stuff up. I've seen a druid of Istishia IC before.

And you don't ever "pray to one god, but get spells from another without knowing" in FR unless one god is disguising himself as another. Which would not happen between any of the Elemental Lords and the Nature deities. Why? Because taking the prayers of a deity by another god is effectively stealing from them and making them weaker, which would cause a sh*tstorm between the nature and primordials should that ever happen. It's not something that is done in a "friendly" manner. Not in FR at least.

Unless a DM says otherwise, I'd think it would be fine. But I would suggest that any druid of any of the Elemental Lords refrain from casting spells of their god's opposing element. There would be no reason for Kossuth to grant anyone Drown, nor any for Istishia to allow one of his nature guardians to throw flaming lashes, IMO.

Edit: Dammit, Tormak! xD

Philosophical question: Why wouldn't a Paladin of an order of a Chaotic Good Deity (such as the Order of the Ruby Rose for Sune) be allowed to take Cleric Levels? Doing so would be against the one-step rule, but lawful-good is a requirement for paladins.

What would be the essential differences that are required to be a part of the order that would preclude them from duties as a priest?

mechanically you've got yourself an either or there...

if you we're to go more chaotic you'd lose your paladin-ness because (supposedly) they are supposed to uphold law aswell as good, and chaotic good is generally more vigilante than lawful. however there was a thread a while back talking about lessening restrictions and I don't see why lawful is a prerequisite, there just goodly knights. not to mention hiding in the forest whispering about something or other telling you to "walk" is far from lawful IMHO.

*grins because of tree sneaking last night XD took you long enough to spot me, if you did spot me XD*

but yea pnp wise I see no problem with this. however I assume you mean can you be a paladin with a NG CG CN deity, mechanically aslong as you don't pray yea, lore wise, perhaps...differences? clerics (used to) only use maces and such while paladins nearly always have some sort of huge sword...not really sure what your after here.

My reasoning?

Paladin seeks to fulfill the god's will through Lawful and Good means, regardless of of the actual deity's disposition. A Cleric seeks to do the same job by embodying that god altogether, as in being really close to their axial outlooks and working in a way that the deity would.

Same job, different tools. Possibly being a good paladin doesn't necessarily mean you'd make a good cleric in the god's eyes. You may be fine an dandy as a crusader and doing the Good that the god wants to see done, but your Lawful methods may not be what He/She is looking for when it comes to leading worship. Possibly they feel that your Lawfulness partially blinds you from the "truth" they embody as a Chaotic deity.

As far as the differences in duties, IMO: Cleric preaches the word and protects the essence of the dogma in the world. Paladin carries out the word and tries to instill that essence of the dogma in the world. Preaching vs. Crusading, in simplest terms. Of course, they often overlap and both classes of clergy do the other's job at some point or another.

Mostly it's just reasoning around mechanical limitations, but that's my stab at an explanation.

This is the fey version of Akadi and she grants druid spells. I really don't see why Akadi wouldn't.

However, that doesn't count as valid here on Amia since 4th edition lore is moot. But, since Tormak said he has no issues with Primodial Lords having Druids, you're good to go anyway!

damn wikis down again...ehm...

something like "those who pay lip service to other gods are not returned by their deity and instead form the wall of dead that surrounds (kelemvors home town. in the afterlife.)"

so lore wise especially if your a cleric, don't pray to two gods. (unless your faking it ;) )

I'm not sure where you got that, but that's highly untrue. And in fact, most of the peoples of Toril worship multiple gods. It's just that in most cases, people take on a main deity to pray to.

You could worship Akadi and get your spells from Malar? They're both furies. Maybe even just be a Druid of the furies and revere em' all.

Akadi isn't a Fury god. She's not even a god at all, she's a Primordial Lord. You're thinking of Auril, I think. She's Goddess of Cold and Winter. Akadi is Primordial Lord of Air.

I'm not sure where everyone is getting all of this "If it doesn't say she has druids, she doesn't". Just the same way people think with if a god doesn't have monk orders, you can't be a monk of that god. It's just not true.

Monk's aren't divine casters, Druids are. If it doesn't say the deity supports Druids, it's for a reason. Monks are, in effect, lay worshipers. They don't get their powers from the gods, making them able to worship whoever they damn well please without becoming moot. Druids, on the other hand, have to get their spells from the gods and only certain gods can grant such spells. Remember, Druids are priests just as much as Clerics.

More often than not though, it's just a lapse in information. The creators and setting designers can't be arsed to explicitly state all the time "this god has monks and clerics and druids, XYZ". One because with FR's numerous deities, it would be a pain, and two, because it's a lot smarter to leave it open in terms of lore. It's a lot better for a god lore to have more "maybes" than "nevers". Most of the time it's let up to DMs and common sense. And our DM's with common sense have resolved the question.

In light of the talk about primordials though, I have my own question. Were the Primordials thrown down to earth with the ToT, and as well, though I doubt it, are they susceptible to the same "No worship, you die" rule Ao set up? My memory leads me to think no on both accounts, but I'm not sure, as the Elemental Lords were like the only Primordials that still kept something to do with Toril after the split from Abeir.

You're still failing to grasp that Monks are lay worshipers though. Clerics and Druids are divine spell casters and certain things are required of the specific god and person in question in order to allow them spells. You're making Monks out to be priests with divine abilities granted by the gods, like Clerics and Druids. It's simply not so.

For the record, all lore is merely suggestion and can be thrown out the window by DM's. If the Primordials were being suggested as Druid supporting deities, it would be specified. Kossuth was singled out as the only one for whatever reason they thought up. I doubt they forgot the rest of the Primordials after having specifically singled Kossuth out on Faiths and Pantheons.

In any case, here on Amia, they grant spells to Druids.
