ok we had an interesting...moment yesterday, first we we're tricked into being killed frankly, then our bodies we're traded for some ritualistic end, and two things bugged the hell out of me.

first, oocly raises, you arn't nessicarrily fully dead, the rules say after 5 minutes (of oocly death) you can "regain consiousness" and since I never got a tell, wasn't asked if i'm ok with having my eye ripped out, I think my attempt at unting myself and hopping away should have been a sufficient clue that I wasn't entirely enjoying the RP XD. however it was well done and all parties agreed to let it slide, albeit without discussion from the people in question who did this.

also considering i'm level 9 I would have prefered not to have been ganked 5 times while trying to escape, I barely had time to write *cuts through the rope* before boom dead. // your dead, oocly raise //

next time this happens I will require a warning, and I should have just hostiled when I saw the ghoul touch but I assumed non hostile you can't kill, I was wrong, and I had my eye ripped out ICly.

also I saw no waiver and I AM -NOT- part of it anymore.

so yea, expect me to be moving if you OOCly raise me attempting some kind of capture, I did not waive any rule. nor did I waive a discussion before attacks, I failed to attack 3 hin because I was talking to them through tells and they walked off to a pvp safe zone, I expect the same. and I don't intend to metagame.

ed: this is not a complaint, i'd just like to clarify some things.

ed2: why'd you think I left out names

I swear i saw somewhere that if a player takes you out in PvP it is The Victorious' decision wether they killed them, or knocked them out.

I think i might've read it either on the Examine PvP tool or in the PvP Rules in the journal in game, check there, if not then it was probably on the forum rules, either way, i know i saw it somewhere.

Considering the number of RP'ers who think PVP is RP, or the number of said RP-PVP'ers who won't allow lower levels to do their RP without taking it to PVP then yes - I strongly recommend achieving level 30 before even attempting any serious kind of RP. In any given scenario it quickly reverts to, as far as I have seen, "ah-hah-hah! But I am twenty levels higher than you are and minmaxed to powerbuild my character to all kinds of prestige class awesome AND wield the power of dev crit!" - great fun.

This exact situation has occurred no less than four times while my character was present. And that doesn't include the daft reasonless PVP I've witnessed by Clerics/spellcasters with swelled heads. So you have my sympathy Glyph. You're not allowed to RP if you don't have mad skillz.

this time, I have no issue with it because there was indeed some splendid RP involved tricking us, draging us off, however the fact that we are so low level comparitively and got no sort of warning or told them we accepted, I will be logging if it occurs again.

ed: I have screenies by the way but that was practice for next time.

-_- like I said, at least tell me OOCly, and I won't metagame, and its fine. I received no tell, and I signed no waiver. OOCly backdown as you know then I don't agree with, but you are -REQUIRED- to inform people OOCly.

Not sure if it's sad, Goblin, but true. The plain old fact of Amian life is that the gap between a level 3 and a level 30 is so completely ridiculous that it's almost impossible to relate it to real life situations. You don't even need to take digs at the powerbuilding fraternity; a terrible level 30 will monkeystomp a brilliant 10. It's just a fact of life on any server with a wide level range - a level 3 is a sickly toddler, and a level 30 is a giant robot T-Rex, and if your RP does not acknowledge that IC fact, then allow me to offer some forehead lotion before you go banging it off that particular wall.

I personally adjusted to it years ago and now my (sane) characters are pretty cautious around anyone they don't know until they themselves are 30'd and packing a good PvP gearset. Unless your character is insane or deeply stupid, I can't see how you are playing the role of an adventurer on Amia well unless he, she or it is aware that some people can annihilate others at no risk to themselves, and by looking at the enemies they can beat, work out where they are on that pecking order.

what about your insane characters? (relevant > = ) )

as much as i'd love to sit here getting to level 30, I have been level 9 for 2 days. and I have done little but RP, i don't really want to grind for a week straight.

ed: then again I will do if thats what it takes to RP a -blank- >_>

I can somewhat relate and at the same time not.

I'm still new and I've noticed that a lot of people in general are not too inclined to RP while they are "grinding". While I still find this difficult to deal with, barely being able to throw an emote out there every so often (else I'll be left behind while typing, lol), I guess I'm coming to terms with it.

I've been on the server for a little over a month now and I'm level 14. I feel that, level-wise, I'm progressing at a perfect speed, perhaps even a touch too fast compared to character development, but I take things as they come and I never, ever plan that I have to reach level X within Y amount of time.

I honestly don't think that RP can (or should) only be found at level 30...

Somewhat back on topic; I've not had a PVP situation yet... so I can't really comment on that! Sorry for derailing! :?

Uh. No. If you're dead, you're raised OOCly so that you can continue to read RP or reply in an OOC note if needed since the death screen is bostructed. If you are raised OOC, then it is OOC. Period.

I don't care if my level 3 gets involved in PVP by accident or whatever. All my choices are thought out. I don't believe you need to be level 30 to RP.. most I have met in heavy RP situations where not 30 at all in fact are more in the 20s range.
Plenty of very tense drama can happen without PVP all the time.

Please don't discourage others not to RP a certain way for fear they might not "win". Intimidation via RP works people since most are not 30 and everyone believes the other person is. >>

Yeah, I'm confused about what your are saying, the OOC raises is for the purposes that Tormak stated. It means you are still dead and allows you to be moved, emote things, etc.

The part about the eye being ripped out I don't know what to tell you. Perhaps they could have been moer courteous, but RP is RP, and it's kind of lame, IMHO, to say, "No, I don't want my eye ripped out." and have the RP become a bitconfusing.

He's right, though. Albiet whilst being wrong at the same time. You aren't 'allowed' to talk the talk unless your character can walk the walk. You can do every other kind of RP, so his argument fails here, but I'll carry on: if your lowbie character is talking the talk to an epic, he or she is a complete idiot who deserves nothing less than the impending effortless beatdown. That's really good RP if your character actually is meant to be a complete idiot, but really bad RP if he or she is not.

If that's an intractable problem for you, Goblin, you need to move to a server with a narrower level range.

You're entitled to your opinion. At least do me the courtesy of allowing me my own.

As my post says - I have witnessed on at least four occasions PCs who have done it IC, and those who've done it OOC. Over things ranging from hunting grounds to the 'law of the land'. For me personally, it just makes me tired. Why bother roleplaying at all if any action taken or threatened will get my character killed? The only way I see, to truly combat this 'lolpwnt' attitude of folks who play characters who'd rather kill a bunch of people than stop doing what they're doing - or to defend my character in OOC battles over hunting grounds - or to RP some petty conflict of words without being gutted on the spot in full view of a half-a-server of witnesses - is for me, myself, to achieve maximum level and give my character a fighting chance.

Hearing about how faction A attacked faction B is interesting and has it's RP merits. These things usually happen for a reason, which I'd happily be a part of and accept the consequence - but it just makes my skin crawl when everyone's answer to everything is "setting hostile! PVP - PVP - PVP".

This attitude right here - where level is an absolute dictating factor on how lowbies are meant to RP, is exactly what I mean.

I find this sad, if it was meant to imply PvP is all about the win. I played a LG character once who opposed undead. Since undead are so openly welcomed in almost every party, he usually stood alone against whatever necromancer, and picked fights with necromancers 10 levels higher than he was when they wouldn't release the bound soul. In that sense, levels determine who wins a conflict (although winning isn't always the point) and it means alot of OOC goes into determining when and where your paladin can be righteous without getting wiped out. That's a huge constraint on IC actions if you're not willing to spend the time to watch people emote while you lie on the floor several minutes at a time, several times a day.

Again, you can still throw your lvl 3 paladin against the lvl 30 necromancer if it's IC - the no permadeath rule (another OOC) counters the level disparity to some extent, in that you only lose a bit of face and not your character. But there is little IC to explain how killing something over and over gets you a better grasp on the weave or whatnot; this is just a setting that has alot of OOC engrained in it. That's not bad in and of itself, since alot of people seem to like it (looking at the player count); it just means that "RP" is not akin to "righteousness" and "OOC" is not the devil, the way some people seem to portray it. There -are- servers with a more... I want to say "coherent" setting in the big picture sense of factoring in all these things IC. But alot of people don't like caping at lvl 10 or so.

Having reasonable IC reason to attack is one of the requirements in the rules on PvP; that means a lvl 3 paladin has reason to attack a lvl 30 necromancer. If you lose because thereare tons of demigods walking around, well... that's what IC is here! At least you don't have to roll a new character every time.

I have respect for people like that. Those who OOCly know they won't win, but still stay IC and try anyway and are willing to suffer the consiquences after! Also not all undead are bound souls, infact most of them are just corpses animated through Negative Energy.

Character growth begins when you step on the isle, and ends when they are dead permanently. Its the journey, RP, which does not begin nor end at ECL30.

Edit: Clarifcation in posts lower

There are people who fling a strand of the weave with waving of some fingers. People who can kill dragons, demons in a single blow. Hypothetically assume You are level 10 and die to mylocks. Assuming one way or another is unwise how strong someone is, unless your character has no sense of the world, or what other adventurers can do on the isle. Stop looking at it at with an OOC assumption of 'They can't permakill me' and think of it how you would be in someone's shoes like that. Would said level 10 pick a fight with someone like that? Or even stand up and piss them off? Maybe if they were stupid, like Ruce said. This world can be a lot closer to the 'Wild West' saloon fights, or crossing on a crossroad and crossing swords. Being out of cities with enforced guard protection is dangerous.

Level is just a numerical representation of IC strength, but it very much DOES have a baring on RP. Just as I have level 30's who are scared of other level 30's, or may even be scared of level 15's if they haven't seen what they're capable and they're scary enough. Each character is different.

And to some? Violence and killing your character like they are nothing more than trash is perfectly fine, for whatever viable RP reason. (As long as OOC rules are adhered to and you failed to live up to your OOC out/waiver et al.)

Anyone else find these variety of posts uninformative? If the people didn't do wrong, why complain? Nwn isn't like pnp; You cannot tell a person is higher level than you by how shiney their armor is. Hex, a good chunk of the server wears black anyways. What I am getting at is: there was no foul so what is the purpose of this thread?

Actually you can probably tell what it is made out of, usually. S'what a lore/spellcraft/spot skills are for, and toss a TP asking the person if they'd be willing to give any info on it, if you did a check.

I mean seriously, most of this crap can be avoided if you don't assume everyone's out to be a douche and get you OOC. TALK with the other players in a /tp. They are not your enemies, eventhough their characters may be..

Sadly there might be a couple of players who simply cannot lose, having insane builds and will use PvP to obtain the control in hostility situations, sadly this shortens the RP vehemently, even though a very interesting and superfun scene might have grown out of that! I miss the times when you made a dice roll each turn in your RP to find a winner, it extends the RP and you get an actual picture of whats going on. There are so many ways to describe how your assassin is backstabbing somebody sneakily and drag his/her victim away in the shadows! But I also have to admit that kind of RP is hard when it comes to larger competing groups, then pvp is the only way. But in this case some just leave their victims behind after they have killed them... imagine all the things you could do to the corpse of your enemy! :D

But there are also times when you can exaggerate the control over somebody, remember that the rules say that you need to give your victim a realistic chance to break free EVEN THOUGH he is level 3 and you are level 30. On the other side the victim shouldn't abuse that rule either and find a random excuse to escape or even log in the worst case of lameness...

Back to the "Things you can do with the corpse of your enemy": Some would just reply to that "Well, my character has no reason to do that" and simply walk away, but for the other player's sake, why not just knock them out and then see what happens next? This is an RP server and when you interact with other players, try to make it fair and fun for them aswell when you are the one who's in charge, ask for permissions and make suggestions! Maybe even spare that little timestop spell this time to give everyone a chance. But when you are the one who is losing then try to find another role for yourself than the winner, losing can be fun when your enemy is a fair player. I know what I am talking about because I have a character which entire concept is losing...

Then there would also be the fun things "OOC rest" and "PnP spells".
There are no OOC rests!
PnP Spells: Only with permissionion.

well thats all!

There is no such rule.

My wording wasn't great there.

DM's have specifically stated, if you are going through a hunting ground, you cannot have it taken away from you by PVP regardless of outcome of it over it.

The protection of 1 time through then you gotta 'give it up' to whomever is waiting before is a basis on OOC rule.

This isn't to say you can't be properly PvP'd then drug off to be sacrificed. But you cannot PvP for an area to take it away from someone else and resume hunting there.

You can't tell that in PnP either. If their sword is glowing and you know you're using a +1, they're probably higher level, but that's also true in NWN.

If there are any PnP rules that let you tell the difference between +2 and +3 armor just by a casual glance, I haven't heard of them. Either you need to cast Identify (an hour-long ritual), or succeed at a DC 50+ spellcraft check if you're using rules from the really bad epic level handbook.

Glyph a simple suggestion form somone whos been in this situation several times. Let it blow over, some people will always annoy you for the things they did that are unfair to you. Having an eye gudged out is rather graphic and yes they most have OOC ceonset to torture your character. But trust I've had that done to my character before it's easiest to just let it go and keep RPing.

Yep, that is one of the most important but sadly also most forgotten rules. And even though it wouldn't be an official rule, it is just common sense! We were once just pvped away while the group was camping at the ilithids... it was quite lame, but they didn't know of that rule and apologiced, so there was a happy ending.

But when you are the one who is losing then try to find another role for yourself than the winner, losing can be fun when your enemy is a fair player.

I think I love you.

i'll say it again for those who refuse to read, "he killed someone without hostiling, and without first informing either of us there would be pvp."

like I said we let is slide but I wanted to clarify some of the rules, and tbh whatever. you are required to tell them at least or hostile first at least end of. i'm not talking about hunting, I don't know where that came from.

why is everyone here so angry all the time.

(by whatever I mean if I am ganked like this -without- RP i'm not gunna be happy no matter what level I am, in this case it was well done but I would have prefered a // im try kill you now, hostile =) // )

Fancier materials for the base weapon/armor - Denotes wealth/experience/power. What kind of Spells being cast determine strength/power of said person if you have spellcraft check.

If someone's toting an Iounstone on Amia, any character with a modest amount of experience probably knows that guy is a bad-arse.

Anyone toting around an EDK/Mummy Dust/reskin etc = At least epic in power. Number of IGMS missles/Flame arrows cast if you can count em!

There's plenty of ways other than direct combat observation, your characters may not know about them, though.

There's bypasses for why someone would be killed without hostling. Usually involves spontaneous pvp, or people getting caught in the fallout of another fight. It happens sometimes with hellball, Horrid wilting etc. If your character realizes there's about to be a throwdown and a wizard is involved, its usually wise to...move out of the line of fire and collateral splash area.

They should make the best attempt to hostile first. All in all, this initial question should have just been PM'ed to a DM and it be done with. No specific events should be discussed publicly, it keeps things from turning into flame fests if both sides get involved and breeds bad blood.

I find this sad, if it was meant to imply PvP is all about the win. I played a LG character once who opposed undead. Paladins are complete idiots. It's part of the job description. Good RP you've got going on there, from the sound of it.

That doesn't so much combat my attitude as agree with it. Give me a nod ingame if you want a levelling buddy, mind.

I can sympathize with getting monkeystomped by someone a ton of levels higher, but it happens. We're not allowed to cite specific examples on the forums, but without knowing specifics, it's really hard to comment.

It's possible that your character went to buff himself/herself (thus rendering the whole "hostile before attacking" null and void) or any other of the milieu of exemptions from that rule. I'm not saying it did happen and I'm not asking for any type of explanation. I'm simply saying that it could have happened.

If you play a low level character, you are going to get your ass kicked. You just are.

If you feel someone has gone outside the rules SCREENY AND REPORT or STFU. The DMs can't do /squat/ without screenies, unless they're /there/. It's not that they're calling you a liar, it's that they /have/ to have proof.

If you don't like PVP, try not to put yourself in situations where it's likely. I get my ass kicked about daily. But that's because my girls are mouthy and opinionated. I know this, I don't mind it. I know your lvl 3 getting owned by a lvl 30 is a pain in the ass...but you don't LOSE anything. You don't lose gold, you don't lose XP, and you GAIN RP. Hurray!

If, however, you RP your character's invincibility and talk smack and/or take on invincible odds with no fear because you know you can't be perma'd, you deserve a massive nutpunch.

If I see you farming an area over and over, you will get kicked out if other people are attempting to fight there, and probably actually gain XP compared tothe 30 doing lootfarming. Other DMs have and will continue doing this.

When did this become a rule, and why is it not posted?

You have specifically told me the opposite in the past.
