Due to not being too sure if this character concept brecks the Popular Culture refernce rule.. thing, I thought I should check First.

The basic Idea of the character is a Shugenja from another Setting called "Legend of the Five Rings". I do love this setting the concents within it andwould love to play a character from this setting using the names of a Major clan and a house within the clan. All I'd be using is the above thigns, the rest of the character would be my own creation just using the "legend of the Five Rings" setting and clan/house etc as a refernce point.

FR has Kara-Tur, with many of the Chinese and Japanese cultures and traditions. Read up on...I think it's called Legends of the East. Anything Five Rings can do, we can do better.

wikipedia.com wrote:
Shugenja (修験者) were the 7th century practitioners of the Japanese religion of Shugendō. They were sometimes known as yamabushi, incorrectly translated as "mountain warriors", "warrior priests", "bandit monks", etc., though warrior priests or warrior monks are correctly termed sōhei in Japanese.

5 rings does not have the copyrights on japanese history.

As there is a Kara-tur in FR, there's no reason at all you couldn't do this. We have had samurai, ronin, monks and kensai floating about. Shugenja are just fine.

Pull it from FR, not history or homebrew. Shugenja in FR are divine spellcasters with oriental flavor. If you wouldl ike the book, read Complete Divine. They're a base class. Shugenja all belong to a certain Order, and this Order influences the spells they get. All Shugenja are also associated with one of the classical elements and must pick te majority of their spells from that element. They are spontaneous, Charisma based Divine casters.

I do ahve the compleate divine so I was planning to go as close to that as possible. My problem with the 'rule check' isn't that persay, it's more playing the character from athe Roukugen Background, from the Certain clan. if that's a no-no then i'll re-think my character concept but stick with the level plan I had

Somewhat related question:
Can I roll up a priest of Pelor?
There are numerous portals from Greyhawk to Faerun and Krynn, so the possibility exists.
I believe He is also recognized as a major deity in FR as well.

Rokugen is a no no. Find something from the lush and detailed world of Faerun; you'll integrate better into the setting and be a more robust character for it.

Can I check somthing too?

Is it ok to take the non-spell earning levels of ranger without a nature deity, to help with getting skills/feats that could help me RP my character?

Well, I don't want to waste forum bandwidth by posting another thread that is, really, the same sort of post.

Someone informed me that we are not to use any sort of telepathy to communicate while shifted as an illithid / mindflayer. Given that telepathy is more or less an unconventional and often rare RP encounter, I just wanted to make sure. So, I suppose the concise way to phrase this question would simply be:

As Shifters, are we allowed to RP telepathy when shifted into an illithid / mindflayer shape?

The past answer for that has been 'no'.

You're not supposed to be using telepathy period.

Stickies are best used for things you want people not to read. I understand the entire security system of Area 51 in Nevada consists of large ideograms of a pin placed at regular intervals around the perimeter, and a really big one in the north-east corner printed on the ground for satellites. Everyone just ignores it completely.

Seriously, being stickied is the Greater Sanctury of forums.

No need for sticky, on the grounds that these questions are specific enough to where a general sticky probably wouldn't have been able to cover them, so them being asked would have happened in a topic anyways. Nothing wrong with asking a question.
