So I'd use your best judgement. Like, calling someone a douchebag is probably pretty OOC, but calling someone a "simpering lambskin full of genital cleansing fluid" is...well..it's something I just made up.

So try making stuff up.

Here's a wizards thread on the subject.

Not period I know, but I always think of the setting as slightly medieval so tend to take inspiration from there. I was rather thinking of period medieval swear words. But difficult to find any serious sources on it.

Oddly, the Two-fingered variant of the finger is medieval (at least in Origin)

It was an insult used especially if not exclusively by archers saying 'We can Still pluck you' .. you can imagine where it went from there.

Curious...when you say this does this mean you'll spend less time on things like spawns and more on mod changes storywise and such?

I think he means DMs spending less time on the Requests forum and the forums themselves and more time in game.

I don't see how the requests forums have to do with the "Arcade" feel he described but ok

Sounds interesting, I don't foresee much change in my RP or behavior regardless. I still swore like a sailor IC even when we had the Pg-13 rating. Can't play a War Knight without swearing far as I'm concerned.

Well depending on how the server changes will depend on if I stick around or not I guess, I imagine that's probably the same boat a lot of people are in now. If the server becomes less fun and to much work due to being so Rp-Heavy, I can't see myself sticking around after February, but if not much in that department changes, I'll probably stay.

I presume that 'RP heavy' means less about killing billions of monsters and more about moving the story that is our world along more quickly, with more happening on the way.

It also means sort of restructuring the creatures and item drops to make it more rewarding to party.

It would be a wonderful thing if loot actually scaled linearly to party size, and didn't encourage soloing.

You would inject a bazillionty more gold into the economy and make that all worse, though.

Putting a lot of time in balancing is exactly the opposite of what I want. We have too little time to do what we want and if I need to make a choice between something that affects gameplay and something that adds rp opportunities I'll go for the latter.
In general my vision is: more dms online doing events and promoting rp. Less administrative tasks for dms and less focus on the forums. Less time for moving numbers around in the game, more time to make the world come alive. It looks like we're playing phpBB lately and not NWN.

There's no anger, though, and the request for more active leadership came from the DM team itself. I offered to take my responsibilities as the factual owner of this place, and I don't see much need for a Head DM job that's basically stripped from all power because I picked the biggest eggs out of the basket.

I meant it in the best possible way, a motivated DM team has to be better at dealing with getting things back to RP basics is all I meant, sometimes you have to mix things up and changes up a gear and get a little aggressive in order to get things done, and your post says to me you have had enough with some stuff and your obviously serving notice to do something about it.

I was merely expressing my approval as there are to many wet monkeys (a reference to an example of inherited social behaviour) on this server following bad OOC habits and presuming that its acceptable both by the server RP rules and by those of us who still try to remain in character as befits an RP server.

There's one thing of particular note, Disco I'd like to add though:

Sometimes, forum posts can aid in helping spread and encourage the ambience. They aren't the be-all and end-all , but there's some situations where it's really hard for an individual or group of individuals to be directly witnessing, BUT the events might have an impact, or larger scale interest.

An example:

Christophan Warrick's final end, while he could have just went to his house and ended up hemmoraging violently from whatever ended him, it'd have been difficult for any follow up RP to have occured without some idea of what was going on and sometimes, just contacting a single DM wouldn't have worked so well.

Yossi followed up on my post of it BRILLIANTLY and made good use of it to generate follow up, and it generated between forum activity and in game activity a fair deal of RP interest.

So long as the oppritunity for that kind of solid blending of RP and forum activity can still occur, hey great that the DMs will be focusing more on running the story!

That's not what I mean... RP posts are fine. This forum was meant to facilitate out game, though, and it started to become a task in itself. I'd like to divert resources into the game.

Thanks for all your work and thought into this Disco.

I would like to request that we all remember to get permission from those involved before any torture. The drow players did this exceptionally well, starting with a disclaimer before any torture RP. Making sure everyone was of acceptable age (18 or older) that they are ok with torture RP and asking what was out of bounds to the players. (ie. One player was fine with anything but messing with the mouth, pulling teeth etc.). We were able to accommodate everyone and the RP was excellent. Thanks in advance everyone!

Regarding the IA forum, if this has not already been discussed, perhaps some clampdown is necessary.
Considering the Devs have been asking people not to spam all the time, a lot of people don't see the need to respect this request.

IA is in its own little universe where Mosh is god. I think he is doing a good job and perfectly capable of expressing his wishes. I don't see me posting more about that here helping anyway.

In my defense, I put forth a suggestion that I genuinely thought would be a good change, but I cannot control how some of the people reacted

We can banish people from IA forum if they spam too much. Just lemme know who needs to be banished. And yeah, it's the playing ground of the devs so they set the rules.

I did mention this before but didn't get any requests to block people so far, so I dunno if it's been forgotten as an option.

I don't want to ban people for going off-topic. I partially agree with Iron in that regard. I don't think banning people from discussion, when they are just posting their thoughts is conducive within what amounts to a work environment. Its easier for me to be lock heavy rather than foster resentment towards myself, and as the most visible member of the development team, the rest of the Dev's by banning people outright from having an opinion.

That said I will not hesitate to point out what I believe you are doing wrong and I will do it publicly, though I will do it in the politest manner I can possibly muster. Nor am I unapproachable, if given a decent reason I will re-open topics.

I am fine with how IA is currently operating Dramatic, if it gets to the point its no longer working I can voice my concerns to the player-base without the need to tie up DM resources. An example of my voicing my concerns is the post you are quoting.

I've found that simply illustrating that bad behaviour is unacceptable pointing it out as Mosh does is all that is needed to correct the behaviour usually; if the person cares.

If they do not care then that is a different basket. That will become apparent in time and you folks have the tools needed to rectify that already.

Just a quick FYI to you guys, I'll be handling player/DM disputes and issues now. Not all disputes, just the ones regarding DM vs player.

I'll be handling it like this.

If you have an issue with a DM or Dev, you'll be asked to chat with them about it first, or for them to chat with you. If after you've chatted there are still issues, I'll try and take it from there.

I'm hoping my Inbox will stay pretty empty. Direct communication with folks you have issues with is extraordinarily valuable in solving problems, so that's what I'm going for.

I hope I don't hear from any of you :)

Reference this thread and PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks guys,
Lally

I banned him (for two days to make sure he notices).

Who lives nearby and likes a party?

This is such an obvious and gross abuse of executive power that it's almost a work of art.

It all boils down to less logistics and more story.

The forums are an important aspect of RP for both players and DMs; I think Disco is hoping for this to be their primary function.

Let me know when the party starts. ;)

I, aswell as others i know, do not use Forums much for RPing, mostly just for sending/posting messages to and from places.

good they can go with the 5 "potions of harm" the DM team gave me with DM slay on them.
