As was hinted in another topic, the DMs recently came to a couple conclusions about DCs and instated some changes. One change isn't in yet and will require a bit of fiddling before it goes in, but you'll know when it goes in. The other change is effective immediately.
Change 1: Effective as soon as its scripted, players will be able to gift one (1) of their Dream Coins to another player. These gifts will be limited: A player may only receive one Dream Coin from a player source per 48 hours. If Player A receives a Dream Coin from Player B, Player C may not give Player A a Dream Coin either until 48 hours have passed. Player B may continue to give as may Dream Coins as s/he'd like, but may only receive one from players every 48 hours. This is separate and apart from a DM Dream Coin: In effect, the player is giving on of their Dream coins to another player for good roleplay. The Dream Coin does not come from "nowhere", it is an active bestowment for RP. DMs remain the only "infinite wellspring" of Dream Coins. DM characters are not eligible to receive Dream Coin gifts. These Dream Coins are added to and taken from the players' accounts as appropriate and may be used for requests, redeemed for experience and gold, so on, so forth.
Change 2: Effective immediately, players may donate their own Dream Coins to another player's request. This donation must be approved by the DMs, and can only equal up to half, rounded down, of the total cost of the item. If an item costs 25 Dream Coins, for example, the player must provide at least 13 of those, and 12 may come from another source. There is no limit to the number of players that may donate to the request, but the request must be approved, and all donations must be approved, and the requesting player must front at least that half of the cost themselves.
Please direct any questions, discussions, or concerns to this topic.

wow, that's sure giving some serious power to good role players or to those have a lot of DC, as i do not believe both are the same thing IMO. Scary really, the first point is nice that people can reward each other for good rp, but at the same time it may in a way kill some role play in some areas. what if people start purposely grouping an rp around those pc they know have a large quantity to get DC from them. Or working for the pc's with the most DC, so they are rewarded more often. In a way it gives OCC power to those willing to hand out DC, to gain bigger followings or more rp centered around them. In a way thats great, but not everyone has dc to hand out an i can see people missing out eventually. Player A has 60dc, they often rp an reward others with DC, by doing so many flock to this rp an enjoy it "which is good" but many are simply doing so in hopes of getting dc. Then the dm log on an i personally think spend more time with bigger groups of rp than smaller ones, thus the big group handing dc out gets more dc rewards an the cycle continues. Edit: i guess in a way it will eventually balance out but those handing out and getting more rp around them are still more probable to get more dc IMIO In this many who are not able to enter that circle of rp will simply miss out on said DC chance, an ultimately the one handing DC out will gain a new way of OCCly encouraging players to RP the way they want them to, when they want them to an how they want them to. in a way it allows players to cease control an bring players into plots without dms to support it, its great, but i can also see some people just missing out on RP/DC as they are not in the "in crowd" thus i guess in a way it could make the "rich" richer and the Poor poorer per say ? just some thoughts, i think this will be really interesting to see how it pans out. i for one would love to be able to reward those who attend Tarkuul rp like valkin lectures even when dm are not around to do so.

If this becomes a problem, we cut the rope. Simple as that. This has been a request for quite some time. Now it's time to prove you're responsible enough to handle what you've been asking for all this time.

<_< Oh god.. if people start paying for Dream coins, Amia has to rename itself to an MMO. Awesome change though! I hope people don't try to abuse it and that it brings in more positive things than negative ones.

The change to how requests can be paid will probably make requesting faction-relevant items much easier.

Please direct any questions, discussions, or concerns to this topic. that does raise the question of people IC paying for aid in thier DC requests Player A is doing spell creation research and pays player B 3mil gold for aid in such and upon completion and if his aid is significant(DMs passing leting him donate) a extra 50mil commission mind you over 2 days at a time he could slowly give him DCs anyway but the point still stands, what of people playing for DCs in a IC way that is logical whats the stance of paying for services?

Playing devils advocate, this is a slippery slope... an OOC means of buying loyalty IC is one way to look at it.
I mean, I don't have or receive many DCs but the majority of RP I take part in is disjointed and PC to PC contact is usually relatively brief. I'm fine with this as I still enjoy the RP and ongoing player opportunities it facilitates.
That said I'll still be throwing those DCs to people who 'do the business' RP-wise if I have any, mainly because I'd assume that many of the people I RP with are in the same boat.

My first comment is that people who wish to give up their own DCs are welcome to do so. They are in finite supply and if you want to forego a future benefit from cashing them in by giving part of your hoard to someone else, you're welcome to. And if someone feels like leaving the server, they can spam their friends with parting gifts. Of course, when they come back 6 months later and have no DCs, they'll be pissed... My second comment, a follow-up on the 'finite supply' issue, is that DMs are paid for their time in DCs. The more active the DM, the more likely they are to have a large supply and, whereas most people don't know if or when they'll receive another, DMs know that they just have to keep putting in time to get more. In other words, DMs are more likely to be able to 'afford' giving theirs away (and even if not, players may assume such to be the case). I'm not sure if this will prove to be an issue, but I can see an increase in people sucking up to DMs when they're on playerside (I've always felt DMs generally shouldn't be handing out DCs while on their PCs for this reason). All in all, I approve of change #2. I don't really see a need for #1, but let's try it and see what happens.

I'd imagine DMs would continue giving out DCs as they always have. I don't think giving the ability to other people will change their own habits.

We would still be the "infinite wellspring" of those delicious DC's, but this takes a little burden off of us, and allows players to give and get DC's even if a DM is not on. It's really a win-win. Be responsible with this, when it is released. Like Tormak said, if we see it being misused, it can be taken away.

I give this a month, maybe less before the DM's see that the few rotten apples in the amian barrel, are going to eff this up. Its an awesome idea though, both on a single character level, and also on the faction level. I really hope my first senteance is wrong.

Honestly I see this as a good thing, people who claim complaints for OOC loyalty buying with them should take one thing into account.
The DM's can't be everywhere, can't be watching everything and can't nescessarily reward EVERY RP worthy of DC-age.
This system provided it's used properly can help fill the gap. Let's not abuse it please?

The potential for abuse is minimal, in any case. The possibilities suggested here are absurd and inpractical, more than anything. This is a good thing. Even if it doesn't result in any notable levelling of the playing field, at least some people will feel appreciated and motivated while others get the fuzzy feeling of giving something.

The most obvious abuse I see to start is that people will use alts to transfer coins to characters who are now their 'mains'.
Otherwise since players are not the creation source of DC's it's very limited in handing them out.
Even when it comes to potentially OOC buying loyalty or such, unless these things are handed out more often than I've seen, you'll run out pretty quick paying for a number of player requests, or handing yours out like candy.
Also, since it seems like DC's are logged on your character as to who-gave-who, saying it works like when DM's give to players on the forum tools log, it can be tracked who may be abusing what if the DM's or admins choose to investigate abuse. Something to keep in mind there before running to manipulate the system.
I think it does have great potential for honest collaborating if one PC is working to help another achieve a milestone goal. Can it be used to buy loyalty? Yes. But when you're out of candy you better expect they'll move on to the next person offering that way.

DCs are tied to your account and can be transferred between your own accounts with DM help. They are not specific to character or account. I don't really even understand what this "buying loyalty" thing is supposed to be. If you want to engage in something as infantile as giving your DCs to other players so that they would play along with your schemes, you're abusing nobody but yourself. You have no guarantee that they will keep their end of the bargain, and you're wasting your coins on something good role-players (the ones who likely have the coins, to begin with) get for free. There's potential for stupidity, but I don't see the abuse. So what if you feel like shooting yourself in the foot? If I saw a faction built on the basis of the leader bribing his goons with DCs, I wouldn't get upset. I'd laugh. Especially when the goons realized they could just take the DCs and gtfo.

Maybe a player leaving giving away all their coins to one player? Hell, even then that is going to be allowed now. *shrug* And yes, if you really really want to buy OOC loyalty, silly as that would be. Let me know. I'll be loyal just long enough to walk away laughing to the DC bank.

As far as the "buying loyalty" thing goes: I considered it before this was implemented and came mostly to the same conclusion as Iron. I'm cynical enough to believe that it will happen, but I believe it will happen implicitly, rather than explicitly. Exposure to RP with an individual for their DCs means more RP opportunity to develop actual IC reasons for bonds and loyalties.

That's a possibility when somebody leaves, I suppose. But you have to be pretty dedicated to come back every 48 hours to give away your DCs one at a time, when all you wanted to do was leave the server. I guess it'd also be very obvious to DMs. Either way, there's little point in speculating beforehand.

"Loyalty" schemes already exist. Promises of epic loot, faction events which earn you DCs and sometimes even a few greenbacks via paypal.

This system provided it's used properly can help fill the gap. Let's not abuse it please?

My husband, who isn't playing right now, has tonnes of DCs. We -could- abuse this system, I could log in on his laptop once every 48 hours, but I'm not planning to. Just giving an example of potential abuse.

Since DCs are account based, not character based, it is not an problem Kev. Nice addition tho, I approve.

Yes, Didi, we know about that. That is also something that would cause these nice things to be taken away. Long story short, don't intentionally game the system.

I understand people wanna be realistic but can we try not to be pessimistic and not see this come to fruition?

Im not intending to be pessimistic. I cant really see any downside, so long as people like me play nice.
I can only see this aiding DC entropy, which is a good thing. Surely only the DC rich will give out their DCs.
Oooh, idea!
Would it be possible for players to give out fractions of DCs on a more frequent basis? Im a school teacher, and we have these things called positive referrals. When I used to give them out, I never would, because I would be waiting for something to absolutely blow me away. So, I switched to a sticker system, five stickers making one positive referral, and I ended up giving out a load more positive referrals.
I can see that if you only have a few DCs, you are going to be very mean about giving them out as they're extremely valuable to you. But if you could give out a portion of one, you might be more inclined to do it more often.

Too much work, Didi.
I'm not rich with them (anymore) though and I'd give away my DCs if it was good enough!

Don't like it.
To me this promotes OOC friendships more than actual IC friendships.
DCs can be used for powerful gifts and abilities.
Knowing that someone who is fresh on the server can do absolutely no RP at all and get rewarded with DCs by OOC friends leaves me with a bad taste.

A DC= an OOC item given out to players for 'exceptional' RP. With DC's a player can burn them for gold/XP or buy 'extremely powerful' items and abilities.
but now.....
You can add "or the OOC friends of players with exceptional RP, regardless of whether this player even RPs at all or is the 'exceptional RPrs' kid sister/brother"

I'm sure it will be monitored. I bet there's nothing Disco likes more than a nice spreadsheet.

I still stick by what I say: It is the worst idea ever conceived.
And monitor what exactly? There is no real way to monitor the RP that is or is not occuring for the DCs given out.
And in the end people should not get rewarded for simply being "the friend" of an exceptional RPr. They should be an exceptional RPr.
It will serve only to create an elitist feel, and I am frankly rather disgusted that this change has been implemented to further the goals of such elitist groups of players.
DCs are handed out to exceptional RPrs....but now...not anymore...now it can be handed to anyone...and that just.....sucks.
Spreadsheet or none it doesn't change the fact that this only serves those mainly who have OOC friends. I'm tempted to stop playing altogether now....it 'is' that bad.
My last word on the subject.
