On the contrary, Dead - That's a rather awesome idea... I'd play it for the hell-o it!

No ,you do it with Large shields because then you don't take the attack penalites and you're only losing 1 AC. It's an easy tradeoff. Almost no one uses Tower Shields in PnP, really, they're just very prohibitive.

Ironically, one of my friends made a Dwarven Cleric that had two shields he fought with. It was only a semi-joking character, and I never saw it in action, but apparently it worked out rather well lol

It's worked great ever sine the advent of Player's Handbook 2 and Complete Warrior which offers alot of cool shield feats.

Reminds me of a Samurai Jack episode where he helps this Spartan dude kill a many armed machine monster. He uses two round-shields while the spartan uses his short-sword.

Man that was awesome.

And speaking of Samurai Jack, and Awesome..

shouldn't it give out the heavy penalties with large shields too? I think the penalties are lessened with small shields.

That's not what he means: in addition to the dual-wielding penalty, wielding a tower shield will also give you a -2 AB penalty. NWN doesn't replicate this, which is why you see everyone using one.

We should put -2ab on every tower shield in existance? Yes? :D

It'd be interesting to see some Large shield's get some love.

No difference for me. My two characters that use shields prefer large shields. They like not having to drag around a 45lb sheet of metal. :D

As for the -AB on sheilds. Not a good idea. That -AB is generally offset by the masses of feats for sheilds, and warriors in general. As well as the feats and such associated with using only one weapon. Adding that -AB would upset the balance of classes that Amia finally seems to be close to achieving.

It's cuz tower shields didn't have that penalty in 3.5, iirc. NWN2 being 3.5 segregated Shield and Tower Shield proficiency (as it is in 3.5) and added the -2 AB.

Er, I meant to say they don't have the penalty in 3.0, which is what NWN1 is based off of.

Yes, but also remember that in PnP a tower shield can give you total cover, which makes you untargetable by ranged attacks, and adds +10 to ac.

Thought thats what you meant tormak, was just making sure :D

and that sounds epic.. so like... +20 AC from two shields, for -2 ab? or -6 with ambidex / two weaponed fighting?

Damn good trade off..

You don't get touse both shields for defense. Only one is allowed to be apoplied to defense. What you normally do is add spikes to one so you can enchant it like a weapon and keep the other as a "Shield" to enchant it defensively. But you're still fighting with 2 shields.

So you can dual wield shields and use all the shield feats with both hands and DUAL WEILD SHIELDS. It's a gimmick build but the difference is in PnP gimmick builds can be hilariously effective.

In PnP I was told I could not buy alchemist fires anymore because I would throw a pack full of 100 of them at a boss enemy and fireball it, doing 110d6 fire for about 1,000 gold....

Or the DM could simply have ruled that doing something like that is an exploit of the rules, kind of like the Bag of Rats for free cleaves.

I'd like to see how you throw 100 bottles of alchemist fires in one go into far enough distance that it isn't next to you, but also not too far for the hefty penalties. and besides, it costs 2000 gold. not to mention a 100 alchemistfire -bag is considered an improvised weapon.

For the record, I think that all gnomes should count as improvised weapons.
You can toss them, pick them up and hit people with them, light them on fire and have them cause random chaos. They're the ultimate weapon.

anything that isn't listed on weapons list, is an improvised weapon.

Why would anyone throw something themselves when they have magic?

Telekinesis

That'll get your bag of alchemist fire, or gnome, down range.

Nah, that won't get you killed if you are shield bashing with spiked shields... Had a Dwarven Defender once that did that. Shield AC only counts once though there is nothing saying that the cover granted by using both tower shields does not stack! Granted this was PnP. Nwn doesn't support dual shielding.

According to the 3.5 PHB, you can't install spikes on a tower shield.

Bah. You should be able to get bonuses from both shields if you dual-wield them. Just with the caveat that you cannot attack at all during the rounds you're getting AC from both. You're holding ~100 lbs of metal between you and your enemy, a veritable wall. Seems like it would make a great idea for a tank that's specifically defensive, just holding the enemies back while the rest of the party picks them off.

I have a cleric of Salandra who's gotten nicely to level 10 thus far who has never even touched a weapon or offensive spell. (Though I have summoned occasionally. >_>) It actually makes for some nice RP.

I'm doing amazingly well with my Eldath Druid using only a pet and summon. And I have discovered that Amia loves Eldath quite a lot, and taking a character who follows her is definitely not a problem :)
