It seems that people have a very different opinion about what happens when a shapeshifted druid or a shapeshifted Shifter dies.

I personally would say... according to the Players Handbook in DnD and the NWN mechanics, a druid aswell as a shapeshifter unshifts upon death.

A druid in wildlife form or elemental form, aswell as all the shifter forms also automatically unshift when they die.

Now here comes the problem with the 1000 faces widget. The widget is a skinchanger, hence the skin stays even upon death. Many take this opportunity to say "I don't unshift when I die" (aka WYSIWYG)

I don't really want to say if this is wrong or right here yet but I know many others RP it according to the DnD Handbook and the other shapes aka that they unshift when they die.

It would be really nice to hear some official DM stances on this. Mainly so that everyone is on the same page here.

Thank you a lot
Amarice

Yes, this would make things easier.

We have thus far been able to do some creative handwawing whenever this problem has come up, but I suppose that can not go on forefer.

WYSIWYG is the best way to go, but I, personally think that no shapes should unshift upon death, as changes made - a Shifter's, at least - are physical. The means of these alterations are supernatural, but once they are made, they stick until changed again. Otherwise, all that stuff about a Shifter "losing" their original shape would make no sense, as they would still have a substantial connection to it.

Supernatural actually dies in no magic zones. Extraordinary are the ones that happen even with no magic. Shifter are supernatural and so death and dead magic zones would cut their ability to shift and return them to normal.

For dying, I'd just say its delayed. Since the widget uses skin changes not polymorphes, then return normal on raise.

And shifters don't "lose" their natural form. They can lose themselves and forget it. And this lore is from a world where everyone doesn't die and get raised all the time. Keep that in mind. So someone who spends years shifting and being someone else, sure they will forget what their real shape was. Though death (Where everywhere else is a -big- deal) will reveal them for what they are.

I have many skin changers and I have 1000 faces. When my character dies and is raised I turn back to normal, granted I rarely ever die in game because I am not in PVP often at all. But the death and shifting delays is the best I can call it.

Werewolf PCs can buy wolf forms and die in them, but against lore, they will not shift back to normal due to how the game handles skin changes. But they should still obey lore.

WYSIWYG is not the golden rule and shouldn't always be used as such IMO as a DM. Its why we use emotes and text to describe what you see that the game doesn't allow.

[Edit for more info] Su=Supernatural, Ex=Extraordinary

A Thousand Faces (Su)

At 13th level, a druid gains the ability to change her appearance at will, as if using the disguise self spell, but only while in her normal form. This affects the druid’s body but not her possessions. It is not an illusory effect, but a minor physical alteration of the druid’s appearance, within the limits described for the spell.

Any ability with (Ex) like venom immunity, or Improved Evasion, can be done any time and place. They are usually passive skills always on.

That's what I meant, but yeah, forgot the factor in the whole "Amia is stupid" thing.

Long time shifter, Nawien Wolfskin. Who as Amarice knows, goes as a wolf most of her days. =P

The limitations of the game mechanics are not an excuse to do whatever. (aka "you dead" "nuh-uh" "I decap'd you!" "nuh-uh" etc.)

1k faces is weird, in game, and that's not going to change. It's just the way it's scripted, and any attempt to edit it will only in words spoken to me when I asked about it "it would bring tears and much swearing". While I'd like to see improvements, more creatures/animals.. the ability to change sex other than npc skins yadda yadda... but frankly I wouldn't ask of anyone the herculean task of trying to sort that all out.. it'd be selfish.

As far as "losing it" goes, as far as Nawien goes, she blurs alot of traits between her states. She prefers living on all fours, but is forced to interact with others. She is a little more wary and feral, decisive when quick decisions matter, but will wait out something if there is good reason to believe something relevant might change in the forseeable future. She's very inconsistant at times constant at others and prone to mood "modes".

Even physicaly, she reflects the duality, condensing some extra features into the vision of her base form, kind of minor "shifts", longer ears, more sharply pointed teeth, amber eyes, thicker nails... though these would recess upon death just like any other traits and features of any shift.

In the end, 1k and shifting like any other class feature has to be used properly..

Shift Responsibly.

Hate to double post, but while we are on the subject of 1k faces being wacky, it isn't just a skin changer. Dependng on models it actually can effect certain game stuff... which can be exploited (not that I do, I've just used it alot and found some real wacky ones)

One of the things that changes is size.. which can lead to screwing up your hotkeys for one.. grrr... to wacky town craziness of dual weilding spears! which was really cool when I found it.. and I laughed for like an hour.

Other wacky town crazyness includes but is not limited to: The mouth-arrow shooting beast, the hawk skin can jump up certain trees and get stuck on the roof of the cell if you "run" at one the right way (I've done this at least twice). Head models that get stuck to another race if the right combonation of 1k use and cloak removal/equiping occurs (was mainly with the old hooded cloaks you "binded" to a character, unequiping and then portaling, then relogging fixed it), Seagull model getting turned upside down or stuck in a halfway animation, getting stuck in door ways, pushed through skinned walls or invisable walls when shifting models.. and other crazy stuff..

That's why we don't give out 1000 faces automatically. It's a sign of trust, and it can also be removed if abused.
