I couldn't find a thread when I searched so I'm posting this now.

What is so special about the yellow items?

Thanks.

They're a product of a script that randomly generates unique items. Most of the low-level ones are kind of meh, but the higher-level ones are often decent enough that a few of my characters have used them nearly into epic levels.

I once found a yellow labeled necklace with +4 AC, +2 Wis, +6 Disc. Better than an epic +5 AC necklace in my oppinion. Some good, some bad. All about luck.

yeah if I had it my way... ALL LOOT WOULD BE YELLOW!

I just belive it would cause more people to trade PC to PC, and not just epic loot...

Ah, randomly generated. I got a pretty rubbish item. I was just wondering if I should sell it.

Thanks.

Edit: People don't seem to trade a lot. I remember on other servers people used to randomly approach me and ask if I wanted to buy something.

The random items make nice bases for mythalling, methinks. You can find some spiffy items, if you just keep checking regularly.

But yes, I think their presence in loot should be increased, too. Take crap off the palette and generate it all from a script is neat and efficient, not to mention adds a nice gambling aspect to loot as you never know what you're getting.

I love the idea of randomly generated loot being the only thing that drops. It has a bonus of giving crafting PCs a bit more work.

I could have swore there was blue and purple aswell, maybe not. My favourite one was a ring that emitted light -and- had some AC bonus, since gills gets old pretty quickly.

You're so childish to say that, Gunz.

EDIT: And yus, if you get lucky, you might just come across some terribly handy piece of jewellery.

I just remembered, my mithril bastard sword along with -much- mythal work turned purple in the description, because the weight reduction makes the rest go offpage slightly, similar to how the screen flickers in chat during resets when people do strange things. not sure if its meant to be purple but it is.

yeah its kind of sad when you know what you picked up befor you ID it....but also yellow items sell for less to a NPC, the loot being random means more player to player trade as whats good for one person might not be to someone else.

but yes we have alot of junk items droped thats just vender loot for alot of gold, if drops were yellow you could increase drop rate but not increase the gold coming in.

The other thing that's nice about random items is the naming. While it's not always the same, you can be reasonably sure that if an item mentions a certain gemstone, it packs a certain elemental resistance or damage bonus.

The naming system is what I enjoyed most to make... it's pretty huge. The more attributes an item has the more prosaic the names become.

I once bought a bow with unlimited arrows from the vendor in the delta. The fact that it was just +1, no restrictions and unlimited ammo made it possible to use at mid teen. It's the only really useful yellow item I've found, even though I have mythaled a few that was good to begin with and very nice when I was finished. I always visit the mervhant with scripted items, just in case I would find something good. Items with regeneration is always appreciated since they demand such rare mythal crystals.
