After much thought and good sense knocked into me, here's my revised idea:

The White Diamond Burlesque Co. will be a high end burlesque for powerful or wealthy clients who desire a fine woman(or man) to entertain and delight them with song and dance. Every weekend the WDBC will host Burlesque shows featuring its scantily clad girls performing musical numbers, plays, dances, and other assorted entertainment. On the week days the WDBC can host parties for other factions, places and make calls for events.

The WDBC will be a respectable business(of sorts), having only the most charming workers. The workers themselves will be guarded by the Madam Wyxtra the White(who is no offense a powerbuild, so she will not have a hard time protecting her employees).

As Host/Hostesses/Waitresses, the employees will be paid to spend time with the clients. The employees choose how they wish to employ themselves as long as they do so for the clients(but their will be entertainmnt provided)

The main goal of the faction itself is to entertain clients and guests of the house, all the while making money.

What is needed and required:

1. All characters(except guards) must have either a couple levels of Rogue or Bard, as well as increased CHA. I'd prefer bards mainly...but rogues can be accepted.(Guards are exempt from this)

2. All players involved(meaning in the faction) by agreeing to participate waive escapement of Perma death if they betray, infiltrate, or otherwise harm the faction as a whole(this is to keep spies from simply waltzing in without fear of consequences)

3. All religions are allowed, provided said religion is kept outside of work.

4. I would prefer players who can meet at American time zones(I myself am Pacific Standard time). This is only temporary until I find someone in another timezone as a partner who I can trust to help run things while I am away.

6. All employees will collect fees BEFORE performing their duties as Host/etc. A thrity percent cut will be taken for the House(and no not my pocket the money will be entirely devoted to rent, advertisement, and so forth)

7. In the Burlesque ALL employees save the guards and Madam will be scantily clad(or at least dressed in a sexy fashion), after all we need to leave something to the imagination but a little skin is always good...but no complete nudes. This will be a very tasteful Burlesque.

Alrighty..now that the rules have been set forth, we'll need characters who are not only attractive, but unique, slightly witty, and sure of themslves. To that end I have some special circumstances when concerning what exactly is attractive, what is expected, and how many are needed in terms of numbers.

What is attractive is relative to some people(eye of the beholder and all that) so the numbers of types of employees should be not exact but close to these numbers.

To that end all races/sexes/creeds/religions are allowed provided they have high cha concerning good looks when concerning their race(ie a goblin...but a pretty goblin to other goblins)

These are important in terms of providing the most diverse options for clients...that said, we also will take gnomes, dwarves, golbins, kobolds...anything actually....provided they have these basic traits:

1. They must provide good company....and sometimes be expected to be able to conversate about a variety of topics. (characters of low intellect will not be taken seriously nor considered for employment)

2. They must be willing to sometimes do...unorthdox things...since we are providing services to the clients they may have a perticular type of party that requires costumes and such.

3. Must be willing to undergo examination by the Madam, to ensure every body part is in working order and that there are few scars(this is done a more professional doctor patient way).

4. Must be willing to maintain their bodies and try to keep scar free(there is a caveat to this though. Atleast one person may worship those like Loviatar and such, any scars they do to themselves is only by their own choice. They will be more expensive and only be scarred or hurt as they are willing to endure.)

--------------

I also need a couple guards. I would prefer any race but they must have the tall and brooding Orc phenotype body(thin or fat). They must look imposing...and height matters. These guards will not be entertainment...they are there to guard the Madam or the entertainers.

The employees themselves are the most important aspect of the business..without them there would be no business....as such any employee being harrassed in the Burlesque(or even if they dislike the character) can call a guard and have said nuissance thown out. It'll be the customers choice whether they wanna leave in one piece or many.

Employees however cannot ask guards to attack anyone outside the Burlesque. The Guards will however defend the entertainers if the entertainers are physically threatened.

This is also a partially criminal organization of sorts. We will shelter outlaws, provide hiding and information, and other things....for a price of course.

Our House will not discriminate. All business is welcome. In order to maintain a good relation with the city I actually find an open house in to use, we will donate a small portion of funds to the city itself.

The Clients themselves are the second most important thing after the employees. The clients are to be treated with respect. To lose clients is to lose the very foundation of the business. The clients themselves are to be kept in secrecy.

Side jobs are prohibited(meaning to get money from clients on the side without giving the house its cut). Tips are not included in this. Every employee will have a set price so the cut povided to the house will always be the same unless the price itself changes, at which point the Houses cut will also be adjusted.

I am halfway to getting the money I need for the largest place availiable for a month...but I am not going to purchse the place until I have an idea if players even want to be involved.

Anyone who finds this idea interesting may post on this thread, and express their ideas for their perfect escort character. Though I have set guidelines above for what types of escorts I am looking for....I am always open to different things(tieflings, aasimars, you name it).

Feedback would be much appreciated.

edited PS I kept scantily clad because in essence they want the employees dressed sexy.

I dont think DMs offen inform others about things like that.

This isn't really something you can enforce beyond a gentleman's agreement. We're not going to force someone into it, sorry.

So you're saying we can't have contractual agreements to permaing for moments of sabotage or infiltration within our own members?

Funny I could have sworn this was a used method with other factions

Its not a contract.

Its an agreement in a contract form that is publically displayed to show everyone that "This person has agreed to waiver their rights" blah blah blah. The idea is that if someone goes back on their agreement, they get publically humilated and noted by everyone on the server as a lier. Its not enforced by the DM team.

I've used such a contract, but never with the full epectation it would be inforced from higher up. It's as said a gentlemens agreement. But look at it like this. If a player signs and then not goes through with it. Well we'll know their value as a roleplayer.

Not that I suggest slandering such breaches of agreement over the forum or anything!

Contracts like those can be abused both ways, I'd be careful with using terms like "virtue of a Roleplayer" (which, by the way, sounds hilarious).

Also, public shaming? Really? Good luck with that. Mind you, not including people that are known to break such is a good idea if you really want to go that way, but its NWN. You can change your "identity" at a whim.

When "going against the faction" can be interpreted a myriad of ways, I seriously would say that people being disgruntled and leaving the faction as pretty much a given. You just need to roll with it, its part of the so called game. If you play your cards right, infiltration or whatnot can have severe IC consequences without a forced perma.

Since, as mentioned, the "gentlemens agreement" is the only option here, I would suggest backing up with other options of dealing with internal strife.

Also, I would think that such an agreement would work both ways. If the majority of the faction builds up a resistance and assassinates the current leader, or does something equally deadly, they get permad too.

If you're going to threaten permadeath to traitors you should also accept that permadeath might come to your characters.

I'm going to hop into this and be Devil's Advocate.

Why would I pay to see scantily clad girls when half the server walks around with less than 50% of their skin covered?

Why would I pay to watch girls dance when most bardic girls that like dancing will do so if I just ask them nicely?

Why would I pay for pleasant company when all it takes is a fancy hat with a feather in it?

Also, how are you going to keep performances fresh and interesting? You can only emote a can-can so many times in so many ways before it gets stale.

Elorathall makes a good point. It's the main thing why I'm not overly concerned about the whole erotic espect getting out of hand. I personally think its a far to specific thing and grand thing to keep going very long. People to organise it, guards, performers, costumers. It would indeed be hard to keep interesting for long.

Ever thought of just running a job agency for preformers?

It would have to be an utterly neutral thing if you ask me. I'd might join with my bard if it was so.
No not doing this myself. I've filled up every bit of my Amia time with characters and soon I'll be starting my intership leaving me precious little time.

A simple thing that would depend to much on a huge effort of a single player or a group.

-preformers let agency know they are willing when and how
-Client requests say, a good sadistic bardic taunting by song.
-Person pays agency for spreading the word
-Agency puts out the word
-Bard shows up, perhaps gets the contract
-goes out and does it
-maybe takes payment
-done

Could be done very simple with the least amount of fuzz. Big things tend to die off quickly.

I thought about it. I'm glad to see someone is going to actually try it and I'm interested to see how it works out. I'm trying to figure out if Xavi herself can participate in this, though I think it would probably constitute some sort of conflict of interest.

Yeah, a damn shame you can't just go ahead and run a whorehouse and threaten to permakill anyone you decide is "no good" for the faction. Damn shame.

Though the idea of a vaudville style faction is cool, I personally plan to not take part in this for a few simple reasons:

1) Your first write-up of the idea blatantly disregards a huge rule with pretty severe repercussions.

2) After it was brought to your attention, you've done nothing but fight everyone over it, and then you basically just removed the sexually ambiguous verbiage of the write-up.

3) Your post is so vague on what might earn a player a permakill. So one of your "preformers" decides they want to leave the faction? "They know too much! DEATH!". A "performer" falls in love with a "client"? "You're a spy! DEATH!". Someone badmouths your character while IC? "You can't talk to me like that, I run this show! DEATH!". You can see how this has already gotten out of hand and that's only a few examples.

Instead of slapping permakill as punishment for doing... well, anything at all, I would focus more on the idea itself. Rewarding people for things garners far better results. Do you have any plays, acts or routines planned out? Do you know how your going to set up your establishment physically in the game environment? Do you know what locations you would be able to host these events if you plan to be a traveling faction? There is a lot more that goes into something of this scale besides "I want a bunch of nearly naked people who are skilled at 'uh... spending time' with clients".

EDIT- While I have my doubts, I could be completely wrong about the whole thing and just got bad vibes, as some others have expressed, from the whole thing. I can see how a burlesque style establishments could add a dynamic to the community (especially the underground element) for an entire array of activities that IN NO WAY involve sexually explicit content. I'm just inclined to agree with a statement made previously; I feel you've gone about this idea the wrong way, in nearly every way possible.

The more restrictions something has the less likely people will want to do it or support it long term.

To many ooc rules and regulations kill factions and servers.

I personally don't think we're a mature enough server to handle this sort of thing without it getting out of hand. I like the idea for the background atmosphere, not for the RP it would bring.

I'd have my character hang out in a whore house, sure, but for the seedy and seamy atmosphere of ladies looking for a mark and so on. I'd be doing RP with someone at a back table with a haze of incense, cigar smoke and perfume around them so thick they could cut a hole in it. ;)

Give me that atmosphere, and I'll bite. I think it's something that can only be replicated by NPCs, though, without it crossing lines. Kinda like in the Velvet Quiver in the Abyss.

For your faction, I'd recommend doing the Host/Hostess Bar thing that Selvec suggested. It sounds more friendly towards the maturity level required.

I ROFL'ed...

Yeah I like this idea...

Elorathall's "Why would I..." litany of questions is interesting but can be responded to with "Well maybe you wouldn't but not every character is a lothario." Hell, one of my characters is so clumsy with women I am afraid he's gonna kill one on accident. He could use a place like this.

I'd use my probably worse judgement, and ignore the name "BooBooKittyScrew" and tell you if you can create the atmosphere and effect of a real burlesque without breaking, or even remotely bending the rules, go for it. Uhh, Everything I could say on the perma thing has been said. Maybe now, if your still interested in the thought you should make an IC flier, and let the IC RP happen, rather than restrict everyone by class and CHA score and instead look at their characters individually. Even I have a character that may like to participate, (Without turning everyone to zombies I mean), and she isnt a bard, rogue, and has the worst cha I've ever seen. But she's still a darn beautiful Orgrillian.

People often forget that Charisma isnt your breast size, or number of abs.
Its not the perfect way your hair frames your face, or that sparkle in your eye when you grin.

cha·ris·ma: A spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people.

Even the most beautiful people, can have no Charisma, while the ugliest, can have tons.

N.B. I thought hitler's moustache made him look ugly, but he obviously had Great Charisma X

Hitler was poor on Charisma, but that moustache gave him unlimited uses of Mass Charm per day.

From that sidetrack to the main business... Yeah, id be interested in all of this, I got a few thugs that could be your bouncers or whatever. I dont do dancing girls though, unless you want a boot-ugly hag-witch doing poledance.

Only thing that I dont like is anyone lesser than a DM saying when my character will be permaed or not. Not that my characters in question would do anything to undermine this house, but still, I dont like it, not one bit, leaves up too much for chance and your personal view of "harming" your house. There can always be misunderstandings, misinformation, framing of other characters... Drop that nonsense and im in.

You cant remove a part of RP, that belongs to these kind of shady businesses, which is infiltrations, betrayals, etc. Its part of the RP, and you cannot just wash it away by saying that everyone doing that will get their character permaed.

RP, be it harmfull or beneficial for your house, must flourish, without the fear of perma-death.

Why cant it just be done IC? "If you betray us, we will kill you", then if betrayal happens, the character gets whacked, but can be brought back to life through normal means, and forever needs to watch his back for angry girls in underwear. Why bring in an OOC enforcement thats aimed at the player, not the character.

Edit: What if someone were to join your house, and then perform a coup and throw you off your boss chair? Would that mean we can kill off your character permanently? And does the "right" to perma-kill whoever you want within the house come with the job? Or is it reserved just for you?

That would just indicate that the right palms weren't being greased. Probably the worst (or best?) phrase I could have used. Everyone has dirt that someone else most likely knows about. The trick is to get those people who are in the know to take interest in your establishment. If bob barker says so, then you wouldn't have to worry about the guards, or at least not in the strictest of senses where you are getting busted for the big stuff.

What a cool idea. I can see a lot of potential here. :) The only thing I'd like to suggest is to be careful with the scantily clad dress code. It'd be very hard to have a reputation of a high end establishment while also having girls half naked, I'd think. Otherwise it would attract the wrong sorts (not wealthy clients) and degrade into something akin to Amian Hooters (no offense! ;) ). Personally, I'd focus on having the entertainers wear very stylish clothing, rather than revealing, and relying more on their witty charm.

To site a real life example, look at the Japanese Geisha culture. I'm not an expert here, but they pretty much mastered the art of entertaining. They did not wear revealing clothing at all. They would be a good example to look at if you're going for high end.

The author is going to have a little bit of trouble with this startup, since the author was in actuality a banned user circumventing that ban to stir shit up.

However! The concept is free game to any enterprising person out there. Take the idea and make it your own, since you'll probably be more trustworthy than the originator here.
