I'd probably go Rogue24/Ranger1/Ftr5 for ranged stuffs. Take the Ranger in epic, use it for Epic Weapon Focus, and that 'pays' for taking Ftr5 rather than the stock Rogue24/Ftr6, and still allows Epic Weapon Specialisation.

The point there is that you'll get free Dualwield, which isn't any better than the items with Ambi and Two Weapon Fighting, but does save you the need to wear them. +4Hide/MS outdoors isn't awful either, and if you're a prize git, you can dump into Animal Empathy and get fuzzy tanks.

You were told correctly that it's good, and it will seem good if you've never played the melee flavour with Improved Knockdown and real two weapon fighting, but if you have, it's meh. I've seen the phenomenon a few times now - the ranged Rogue with all the shootist feats that nonetheless has admitted defeat and is meleeing cos it's still better.

When a druid shifts to elemental form does any of the equipment properties meld with him?

I had three build ideas, I need imput on.

Monk (24) Fighter (4) Rouge (2) with a Quarterstaff, Strength based with Devistation Critical. (Also can do Unarmed.)

Monk (Unknown) Fighter (Unknown) Rouge (Unknown) With a Unarmed attacks, Wisdom and Dex base. Epic Dodge with High Wisdom and Dexterity AC. (Tank mainly)

Monk (18) Bard (2) Dragon Disciple (10) With Devastation Critical Greatsword, and some decent AC?

Works perfectly. You can even go 20/5/5 (Monk,Fighter,WM) for 1 Extra AB and Ki-Critical for x3 On your quarterstaff.
You have enough feats to afford the WM Requisite and Devastating + Epic Weapon Specialization.

Eternal-Vortex wrote:

The best DEX-Monk i know of is a 20Monk/10 Rogue with Epic dodge. It wields Two kamas and have Improved Two-Weapon attack. Sits at 9 Attacks and 5d6 Sneak. Fearsome! Also gets you UMD to use OWl's wisdom scrolls you buy from the monastery in brogendstein.

The 15 Monk/5 Fighter/10 Rogue net's the same amount of attacks; Sneaks and gets Epic Weapon Specialization on top of that.
But it doesn't get those fancy glowing eyes.

Eternal-Vortex wrote:

Monk is LAWFUL only and Bard is NEUTRAL / CHAOTIC only. This combo doesn't work.

Monk 18 / Sorcerer 2 / Dragon Disciple 10 works thought. Very straight forward - You should use a Quarterstaff here, too, instead of a greatsword if you want to dish out more damage.
Standard trademark build for a PC called Rras-Rarri

Gah Sorcerer is what I ment on the RDD build idea. Alright.. I am trying to work with what I can. I have a RP build Idea for a Monk, but those three builds were alternates I could have threw in there.

Somebody else also asked me to fill in the details of that build. I'd say right here and now that it's 'Difficult' to make it work properly since you are on such a massive shortage of feats in epic.

Draft #1: Pre-Epic: Monk 19Pre-epic, 1 Sorcerer. Epic: 9 RDD , 1 Monk.
In Epic you take 10 RDD and finish off with the last monk level. This nets you 30 Tumble but reduces your BAB to 14 (19 In Epic)

Draft #2: Pre-Epic: Monk 20. Epic: 1Sorcerer, 9 RDD.
This version gives you 15 BAB (20 In epic) but makes you unable to maximize Tumble and henceforth you loose 2 AC.

Draft #3: Pre-Epic. Monk 19, 1 Sorcerer. Epic: 10 RDD.
This version neither gets the extra Tumble AC Nor maximizes your BAB - But you get the half-dragon template and thus 50% resistance towards (insert dragon here)

Each build encompass 5 feats Pre-Epic taken in this order to maximize levelling potential
Level #0 (Human Bonus feat) ???
Level #1 Weapon focus
Level #3 Power attack
Level #6 Great Cleave
Level #9 Blind Fight
Level #12 Improved Critical
Level #15 ???
Level #18 ???

Epic
Level #21 Great STR
Level #24 Epic Weapon Focus
Level #27 Overwhelming Critical
Level #30 Devastating Critical.

You do not need Cleave since it's a Monk bonus feat
The attack bonus on this guy is 26 + 4 RDD STR = 30 Base = 42 Buffed = 16 Modifier.
+ 19BAB/20BAB (Depending on 19/20 Monk levels)
+ 3 EWF
+ 5/6 (Depending on +6 Gloves or +5 Weapon).
= 43/45

Personal Opinion?
Go fucking 20 Monk/1/9. You get glowing eyes -AND- wings. You net one more BAB (You have AC coming out of your ASS. Not to mention Immunity toward mind effecting spells.
    20 Monk = +4 Extra AC.
    10 RDD = +2 AC.

Your calculations are a bit off there licker.

Going 20 monk nabs 1 more AC over 19 Monk because of 1 AC /5 levels Monk AC. That should help your calculations a bit.

Yeh probably.
I'm also unsure when the RDD gets the extra ac and when amias modifications kick in (Aka the minus ac)

You gain Armour AC from the shifted form, it won't stack with any bonus AC with your armour. I gain my Dex and Regen bonus from my armour upon shifting in to an Elemental form, but not the AC.

Halfling thrower:

Rogue 19/Fighter 6/MS 5 sound good? Last level of Fighter taken at 30 to net EWS and max Discipline.
Thinking stats of
STR: 12
DEX: 20 (28)
CON: 10
WIS: 8
INT: 14
CHA: 8

OOOORRRRRRRRRRR
STR: 14
DEX: 18 (26)
CON: 12
WIS: 8
INT: 14
CHA: 8

The +1 dmg and +30 HP is tempting buuuut.... +1 AB/AC sounds more delicious.

edit: May as well put the build so far:
Rogue(19), Fighter(6), Master Scout(5), Halfling
STR: 12
DEX: 20 (28)
CON: 10
WIS: 8
INT: 14
CHA: 8

01: Rogue(1): Stealthy <-- Added because had nothing else here
02: Fighter(1): Weapon Focus: Throwing Axe
03: Rogue(2): Weapon Finesse
06: Rogue(5): EMPTY FEAT SLOT
09: Rogue(8): EMPTY FEAT SLOT
11: Rogue(10): Improved Evasion
12: Rogue(11): Improved Critical: Throwing Axe
14: Rogue(13): Crippling Strike
15: Rogue(14): Skill Focus: Spot
17: Rogue(16): Defensive Roll
18: Fighter(2): Skill Focus: Listen, Blind Fight
20: Fighter(4): Weapon Specialization: Throwing Axe
21: Master Scout(1): Epic Weapon Focus: Throwing Axe, Great Dexterity I
24: Master Scout(4): Armor Skin
27: Rogue(19): Epic Dodge, Epic Skill Focus: Hide
29: Fighter(6): Epic Weapon Specialization: Throwing Axe
30: Master Scout(5): Epic Fortitude, Epic Prowess

Craft Trap 2(4), Disable Trap 33(37), Discipline 33(34), Hide 33(54), Listen 2(6), Lore 6(8), Move Silently 33(46), Open Lock 1(10), Search 2(4), Set Trap 33(44), Spot 2(4), Tumble 30(39), UMD 26(25), remaining skillpoints 38

Questions!
1) Can throwing weapons be dual wielded? Pretty sure the Brog Barbarians do, right?

2) Does Master Scout actually need Craft Trap for it's crafting feat? Is it a boon at all? I have enough points for maxing one more skill and I already have Tumble/UMD/Discipline/Hide/MS/Disable Trap/Set Trap and the MS prerequisites.

3) I also have two empty feats (three if you remove Stealthy). What the heck am I missing?

I add one question! Since I am planning to take the STR route for my paladin (multiclassing to Divine Champion on epic levels) my charisma won't be that splendid (still I will try to raise it with itemization, however it won't be astounding) what if I skip Divine Might and Divine Shield? They are ok feats to me, but not even reaching 1 turn duration makes me sad and think I should invest that couple of buffing rounds to pump some more DPS into the fray!
Another question, since Devastating Critical has the effect to knockdown the opponent I am thinking to skip taking the Knockdown line of feats. I assume that won't hurt too much, isn't it?

TL:DR - A STR based paladin does REALLY need Divine Might and Divine Shield on this server? It would make me delay my Devastating Critical.

O.o

Divine might/Shield are like one of the top 5 good feats. Free AC/AB and saves from your CHA.

*Shrug* You will regret it.

I am going to recommend you check out the Half and Half paladin, Designed by Baden Ironblood. Look at it and make whatever changes you like.
You don't need follow this build - Just use it to get an idea what feats are important etc

With the kind of mad AC:s you see on amia, I'll take +1 ab over +3 damage. I can still change my opinion several times before hitting lvl 30 on Silwe, but thats the plan for now. Will be easy to drop AA to 17 and go for 2 more fighter levels in epics if I feel it is necessary.

Here's my Edit on an Arcane Archer's Ab. I did a few errors .. it's apparently not 55+ :)
Quote:
24 BAB + 14 DEX MOD = 38 + 5 GMW = 43 + EWF = 46 + 9 Arcane archer AB = 56 + Epic prowess = 57. (58 if you had 15 DEX Modifier) (59 If you had 19 Arcane Archer levels)

59 + d20 = 79 AC to become immune to an arcane archer's attacks.

 Good thing with archers is that they are easy to gear, too. Mighty caps at +5 which means you only need 20 STR. If you start with 14 that means you only need +4STR +2 from a potion to max it out.

This is correct. You won't need that point of extra AB from 19 AA, mainly because AB is easy to get from other sources such as Scabbard of Blessing / True Strike potion / Bard Song.

Thoughts on a hin-slinger build? Are slings viable on Amia or do they not have a decent progression/availability into high levels gearwise?

I am still not convinced. That 1 AB might just mean that the third and fourth attack in the round at -15 and -20 penalties actually hit a target.

Numbers, slings are the most viable ranged weapon of choice after AA. It's decent.

Naivatakl, you're designing a ranged character, where are your PBS and Rapid shot? And no, throwing weapons cannot be dualwielde,d.

Hah! I knew it. Thanks. Only made 1 ranged before heh.

So am I just imagining the Brog Barbs dual wielding? Haven't really spawned them in a while.

Any thoughts on skillz? Does Master Scout need ranks in Craft Trap?

Moved around feats a bit because I realized I'm stupid and Weapon Finesse is not necessary either. But kept in case melee is, heh.

Quick questions about casters!

Do extremely high DC glass cannons tend to work on this server? Is Illusion a good focus to take? Are better pure dedicated sorcs and wizs or spellswords? What would be a good example of spellword focused on casting class(es)?

Ty :)

Naivy: Yes, you need 2 ranks of Craft Trap in order to take MS. You are imagining the dualwielding. As for skills, take anything you would take on any other sneak; Hide, MS, Discipline, UMD, Spot/Listen, Set trap, etc.

Fashion: Yes, high DC cannons do work. People still have to gear heavily in order to resist your spells and you have several magicky defences in case you're barged in on. Pure caster and spellsword are both good, and the latter can be combined with nearly any class: Fighter, Paladin, WM, AA, BG, etc. for decent synergy. Illusion is good for doses of Colour spray and Weird. It's a one-trick spell school, but still a feasible one.

A high level spellcaster is always the strongest build. Can't go wrong with it.

Yes, the alternative mode has will save vs fear and fort save vs damage.

IT does 20D8 damage instead of death
But horrid does 25d8 so it's better and doesn't occupy a level 9 slot

High-DC fears are murder on anyone without mind blank up, so if you have enough time to disjoin or strike pre-buff, you're winning. I seem to recall even 4th level Fear does a number on mobs too, so pretty viable for PvM (though in open areas your party might hate you for scattering the mob). Also it looks cool, so now I wish I could be bothered to make an epic illusionist.

When applying a universal subrace what do you lose from your original race, just the ability modifiers or everything else?

Are you still considered your original race with regards to item and race restricted classes.

Can an elf still be an arcane archer or a dwarf still be a dwarven defender if for example they were a aasimar?

I know you need the 2, I just wasn't sure if Craft Trap factored into MS abilities :>

Are you still considered your original race with regards to item and race restricted classes.

Can an elf still be an arcane archer or a dwarf still be a dwarven defender if for example they were a aasimar?

No, they become Outsiders. I'm pretty sure they can no longer take AA or DwD levels :(

Can't, no. You lose the old ability adjustments, but keep any 'race' feats you would have had. Humans don't keep the bonus skill point though, as that's linked to being human, afaik.

Elves cannot be AAs as Aasimar or Genasi, same with Dwarf and DwD.

Poor, poor Earth Genasi Dwarven fighter I met so long ago ...

Guys. Remember the biggest fail about Arcane archers thought. Since they have 1 level of a caster, -Every- potion they drink and -every- spell they use count as CL/level 1. Which means a normal dispel from a level 1 creature will strip you naked of -EVERYTHING-

So? AA's are still badass.

It's a non-issue for AA's unless you plan to solo the Spire/Mindflayers or PvP the subset of 'people that will use Greater Dispelling but not a Mordy scroll', which is a subset I just made up right now and am confident does not exist outwith my brain.

In fact soloing AA's probably have an easier time in the Spire than buffertanks; they can't be blocked by tubby giants en route to their spawn's Witch. Not sure soloing AA's exists much, although I did see one whup the ASB with judicious use of scenery tieups and invis spam.

So I'm in the process of building a Monk/SD and I'm curious as to how useful/important HiPS is? Namely is it important enough to get as soon as possible or should it be held off until epic levels in order to gain an additional BAB?

Both classes are 3/4 so it doesn't matter. Just make sure you take them in groups of 4. So, 12/8 has the same BAB as 20. Are you just going SD6?

HiPS is really good for annoying the shit out of people when they're trying to collect Maxi's bones.

For leveling purposes, it's better to take the long view; unless you are committed to abandoning the character shortly after hitting 30(and that is the weirdest sense of commitment I've heard of) then you always take the option that means a better end product, regardless of what that does to ease of grind.

Monk20 doesn't have much need to go more than SD6. Slippery Mind does nothing, and Improved Evasion doesn't stack...

Yeah, just planning on 6 SD, shooting for 20 monk and going to be a tiefling so with 6 SD I only have 3 levels remaining and can't take 4 levels of fighter sadly. I plan on hitting an extra level of monk to gain an additional 10% speed boost and then 2 levels of fighter in epic for 3 extra epic feats, I'll have to take my last two levels at an XP penalty but I felt it was worth the extra effort. The HiPS ability is more for RP flavor than actual use, but if it was extremely useful then it would have been better to grab early. Sounds like I won't outright need it so I can wait so that I have a slightly better AB end game. Thanks!

This is correct. You won't need that point of extra AB from 19 AA, mainly because AB is easy to get from other sources such as Scabbard of Blessing / True Strike potion / Bard Song.

I am still not convinced. That 1 AB might just mean that the third and fourth attack in the round at -15 and -20 penalties actually hit a target.

I don't think it's worth it since the change is so minimal. If you play alone and hunt bosses like I do you rarely stand around for the third and fourth attack anyway! If you're concerned about PvP then there's True Strike potions that everybody uses. You will hit your target more than enough and the single AB will rarely make a difference in any circumstance! :)

Hey guys. I need some pro-build aid here. I have a new character idea I have been working with. I have all the information down for his personality and what not. But the build is always last on my plate. The idea is a Servant of Bahamut, Bard / CoT. More detail later. But I wanted to see if their was a way to make a Bard / CoT with Devisation Critical / Lasting Imspiration / Weapon Focus : / Imp Crit / Epic Weapon focus / and if I am lucky, Epic Skill. I wish for it to most likely be a Aasimar. The Aasimar idea works great, but only till level 29. I tested it, level 30 I -could- get Lasting Imspiration. That's if I did not go Aasimar. If you can, accumulate a build layout / and information of if It can work.

-10 and -15 penalty, Silvicakes.

On an AA that's liable to be low/mid 40's, aka higher than a heavy Rogue build.

IE not going to hit the 68AC builds. We'll I'll probably still take the damage but AB really is the hardest thing to get in NWN. AC and damage are much more abundant.

I recently retired a Bard26/CoT2/Ftr2 which was a lovely build. As with all non-AA Bards, it works best on Human, but I made it gold dwarf and was even more feat starved and had no spare skills.

1 Power Attack
1 Cleave
3 Extend Spell
Ftr1: Weapon Focus
6 Great Cleave
9 Curse Song
12 Knockdown
15 Blind Fight
18 Imp Crit

21 Great STR
24 Overcrit
27 [optional]
30 Devcrit

Ftr2: Armourskin
CoT2 Epic Weapon Focus
Bard23 Lasting Win
Bard26 Epic Skill: Perform

That's not the best feat order; just jotting down to see if it all fits. It looks like the +1ECL won't totally break it; you lose the optional feat and your Epic Perform, but it's still possible to get up to 75 without Epic Focus.

I'd still go for the 30 levels version.

Possible yes, viable probably not? Blackguard smiters are generally a pretty bad idea, and AFAIK double-weapons are only really doable on str-based rangers. Maybe some sort of weird 10 ranger/16BG/4 other (incl. tumbledump) would work? Devcrit of course, some sort of decent divine shield and tumbledump will I suppose give you an actual Armour Class, 14 wis, 17+ str and as much cha as you can afford... It'll be a tight fit to get something remotely viable but it could be done.
