Since it's a popular topic at the moment I thought I'd post what I try to stick to and what my personal preferences for pvp are reference for other who want to approach me ic.
Enjoy~
PS's PVP Etiquette1) Give time for people to write before hand as plot is what makes or breaks the flow of a story.
2) Decide what sort of PVP is good for the situation at hand. Perhaps some one wants to use dice and roll with some table top style for the sake of plot. Perhaps it's better to just settle things mechanically.
3) Arranged dueling should better be kept with proper introduction and a ceremonious attitude.
4) Don't trap transitions.
5) Don't automatically mutilate some one's PC make your pc's intentions or want to do so clear ic and or ask / let the other player tell you if they aren't okay with such rp.
6) Avoid OOC.
7) Make sure if you are going to use pnp all members around consent and state their consent then. Make sure if you have used pnp earlier and it's still in affect and there are new PC's who weren't privy to it ask to make sure the Player is okay with it.
8) If pnp is being used make sure all parties are on the same page. Check to make sure there's no mishaps.
9) Try to remember that mistakes happen, and people screw up every now and then.
10) Remember not to preform PVP in-front of guard npcs without DM's Present. This includes Assassinations.
11) Assassinations that are informing the player should be done out of NPC space. Assassin roleplay of what's going on despite their apparent un detected. Roleplay is appreciated in all forms.
12) As an assassin be sure to detail every last detail and don't leave things like voice descriptions out if you are in a disguise.
13) Offer OOC raise to fallen folks as it's not fun trying to read or emote from the death screen.
14) If you can't take it, Don't dish it. IE. if you wouldn't be okay with your pc's soul being taken perhaps avoid that sort of rp with others.
15) If PVP leads to disrupting another players plot, try not to stone wall them from moving on.
16) Keep in mind to give an out. Taking an out doesn't mean being let free immediately. IE: Drow raid on the surface. You don't have to fight. But they can take you prisoner as a legitimate out of pvp. An our for pvp mean not participating in the mechanical mess.
17) Body parts removed before death: If healed in properly do not come back. If only removed but not healed improperly before death come back on resurrection.
18) 'Battle Trophies' Must be removed prior to death. Being removed after death means they too turn to ash when the subject is resurrected.
19) If areas are changed but pvp has been continued for chase play do not rest unless both parties agree before hand.

Subjective. There is not always time for typing, especially if one or more parties begin to buff or cast spells that are seen as hostile. Sometimes things just go down.

OK. Gentleman's agreement.

Can't dictate IC. IC is IC. This is an IC opinion being fronted as OOC fact.

This is a server rule.

Victor chooses what happens to the loser.

OK.

Very important, especially the "understand how it works part." Know your casting times. Know your saves. Remember your situational modifiers.

OK.

OK. Server rule anyways.

Quote:

I don't know what this is saying. Assassins however are not obligated to reveal themselves before attacking provided tey are actually doing a hit. Many assassins rely on that opening vollecy mechanically, and some do not have HIPS to re hide.

Quote:

As a victim of an assassination if you died you don't remember any of this anyways. But yes, if something is significantly different, emote it. You can probably assume most assassins are disguising their voice, imo.

Pretty standard common courtesy. OK.

OK.

I don't think you get to unilaterally decide how other PCs act because of "your plot". This is a multiplayer server.

Yep. OK.

Quote:

Not correct. Body parts come back if the person has not accepted their absence, regardless of how the injury was healed over. See: Pattern Theory of Regeneration Magic. Upon ressurection, all "Extraneous" remaining body parts turn to dust and can no longer be used as magical or sympathetic components for that person.

Quote:
18) 'Battle Trophies' Must be removed prior to death. Being removed after death means they too turn to ash when the subject is resurrected.

They turn to ash regardless of when the part is removed. I suppose there could be a specific instance where someone loses a hand, and has accepted the loss of that hand, and upon his ressurection that hand doesn't turn to dust because it is no longer considered a metaphysical and spiritual part of the Pattern.

Quote:

Yes, you really shouldn't be crossing zones to rest and hop back in, especially since 90% of the area transitions of the server cover no actual ground and were it not for in engine limitations, you could see past them easily. Resting mid pvp and coming back in is a huge nono.

Out of curiosity; what happens if a player sends you a message OOCly forewarning you of an assassination attempt on your PC as a means to subvert the rule on giving a PvP out?

then you don't get a pvp out as that's how assassinations work.

i go through the dm team though to keep it mysterious.

also assassination warnings are good for up to 14 days.

edit; also don't be a jackass and give someone an 'assassination warning' then merc them 40 seconds later.

Well, it had better be an actual assassination. "murder" and "assassination" are pretty different. Assassinations come at the behest of a third party.

Yeah, I'll be on your ass hard if you do this. So don't.

Clarification request? As I understand graphic torture isn't permitted? Or at least it seems like a no unless parties consent? It seems such still happens? Perhaps I'm just confused but what is the actual ruling on such? If Victor chooses what happens that means pc doesn't get a choice but does the player? If not the player doe snot -have- to be present for such but the capture must be for at least 24 hours? If so do rescues and escapes need a dm over sight or is it okay so long as ALL involved parties are in agreement? Sorry but I just remembered I was wondering about the standing on this. If you can tell me for the future I'll keep in mind and appreciate the time in answering this! Thanks.

No, of coarse they aren't obligated to. This is a thread of my personal preferences for what I prefer as a player. I would like to see other player's preference though as well if they have any. But back on point. I prefer to offer some nice fluff text for the target if I'm preforming the hit. I'm a sucker for purple prose and delicious descriptions.

Of coarse the pc wont remember what happened if they get rezzed. But when there are witnesses Having that info put out at once so there's no loss of communication between the various parties to those who are witnessing. I also think it's good to coordinate with the dm team and let them know how things are being done in case they need to pick up an npc that might or might not know something.

Not what I was implying rather sating it's not very fun for those who come to a complete halt and can not pursue further due to ooc reason getting in the way of ic events. I suppose this is a reiteration of avoid ooc for me in a different light.

This is preference for what I tend to do with my own pc's if they end up on the loosing end. Now My question here is it an IC lore rule for the pc? Or is it an OC rule for the players?

Same questions as the aforementioned. Is it pc or Player relevant?

This was a call back to an issue my self and another had. We were running through the various parts of the amian Forrest chasing after each other. We couldn't figure out why the other pc has over 12 wails of the banshee... Turns out they kept resting through out the chase.

To be honest, I would not start memorising what are each players personal preferences to PvP. If I am following the server rules established by DM team and some common courtesies, it is enough for me. Those rules and regulations you accept by playing in Amia and no one is obliged to follow through what you establish as your personal preferences.

It's pretty fun to send someone "assassination warning" and see them buffing furiously suddenly. I guess people still think it's a "I'm going to kill you in few seconds so you better prepare" warning.

As long as it doesn't break server rules, the winner chooses what happens to the loser in pvp, assuming the loser is deceased or KO'd. So no, you don't really get a choice. If you choose to log out you also essentially forfeit your right to input over what happens for the 24 hours. This is to prevent people from rage quitting after they lose a fight and claiming there can be no consequences because they log back in 25 hours later and now you MUST free them. Rescues and escapes only need DM oversight if there's NPCs that need to be played, otherwise normal server rules can be followed.

Pattern Theory is both IC and OOC and explains things like how a 20 year amputee doesn't grow his arm back after regeneration is cast on him, and why body parts dissolve after ressurection. It's both relevant to PCs and players. Your particular PC may not call it "Pattern Theory" (that was largely a wizard and oghman name fori it) but it is a verifiable phenomenon that occurs in our Forgotten Realms. If your PC would like to emote certain body parts not coming back after a ressurection, that's fine, but there is an IC set of circumstances for it, and as soon as that part is regenerated, previous iterations of that part dissolve. To make it simpler - there can only be enough of "you" in existence at any one time to form one complete body. If you have wings and someone has your wings on their mantlepiece, then you don't have them. If you get them regenerated, their mantlepiece disappears, even if it's been 5 years. This is to prevent people from hoarding things like teeth and fingrs for years to use for stuff like scrying, discern location, and the like, long long after their relevance has passed.

No DM is asking you to. People can have their preferences, but unless they are server rules, you're not bound to follow them at all.

I've never heard that about assassination warnings lasting 14 days and I played one for the most part of my time here. For me it was always entirely dependent upon the situation. In fact, most of the time, if i mentioned it to a DM, and they mention it to the player, none of us get told a time. It's merely either what's agreed upon, or just that. A simple warning with no strings attached. It comes when it comes.

I did do one when I'd told a DM to let someone know they were due to be assassinated, when I finally got around to it like, a day later, I got flamed for them saying a DM only just told them, which was true at the time. That was all sorted and such though.

Also the time that will make Tormak frown was when I told them myself that I was going to assassinate them, they gave consent and I got them with in 5 minutes, he was cool with it, though. Was great fun. Mind this was me and a personal friend as well.

I'm not stating every one should memorize my preferences. I'm just making them publicly available for those who want to know 'em. Different strokes for different folks ya know?

Eh, no offense, or anything to anyone who has this idea or similar, but it is unrealistic to expect people to interact and apply the rules on a individual basis at least on a forum post which might not always be updated, or visible, or detectable easily.

There should just be a 'Can be PvP'd without drama' toggle in the rest menu, and be done with it.

That, or an Actand theme'd battleground where everyone is hostile that isn't in your party, with a different set of rules which reduce permanent death penalties, but rather just provide some good classic good vs. evil and whatever else RP you want, without the hectic and somewhat obnoxious set of a million rules which dissolve any chance of authentic conflict RP.

Or possibly even just both.

I as a player will probably never read any pvp preferences other than the rules. Personal preferences, I say this in an attempt to garner as little offense as possible, just strike me as "treat me different"
