Was thinking alot of people play as weapon masters in game but don't really know what they are talking about. Maybe in the wiki we could have a weapons section. Explaining the basis of the swords, length, weight. How they are used. Why they are crafted the way they are. E.G Rapier has basically no cutting power but thrust as it is a dueling sword. It would be most useful, so if anyone has the time and or knowledge then...well...woot?
And in addition there is penty of genuine historical material on the net for those who have a real authentic interest in the weaponry they like to use and rp with. Even if you -dont- play a weapon master.

I'd be more then willing to do this. I currently own 3.0 Arms and Equipment, so I can give direct quotes in the Amia.
Though weapon master isn't actually about weapons, so much as the ability to focus all ones skill and focus into styles using a specfic form of weapon. Such as given in the lore section for the drow.

Most short swords were found around the Ancient Greece and Roman periods; within medieval and renaissance, the shortsword became obsolete as such weapons as the Scottish Claymore, Rapiers, Longswords and Bastard Swords were introduced, and they either were faster and more efficient (ie: Rapier), or simply had far too long a reach.
The shortsword, i suppose, was bastardised as a training weapon, and redesigned in the triangular three edged blade, for far more flexibility, known as the foil. I suppose the saber can be considered a shortsword as well, but due to it's curviture (as it was initially used on horseback), it would hardly be considered a shortsword ...
Sooo, think foils, roman shortswords and renaissance small swords, and those will give you the equivalent weaponry.

*Nod-nod*
Furthermore, i may add, that in renaissance period (i won't discuss the Dark Ages, as i consider them far too undocumented to even draw upon any knowledge), the shortsword was ALSO hard to define due to the small sword (which would be just below a longsword, and too large for a shortsword), and the dagger. However, now that i think about it, look up the Scottish Broadsword, i would say that those weapons would be considered shortswords.
Solved! *Wipes forehead*

When it comes to weapons in warface, you have to remember that in a situation where one hit can disable your opponent you are better off 'out fighting' or in other words having range. Really, ranged weapons and polearms are your first weapon of choice, swords are by and large secondary weapons. You can find historical examples of shock troops such as no-dachi samurai that enter battle with a sword but overall you would have to be nuts. It is something I have always found interesting with nwn, that range on melee weapons seems not to be taken into account at all.

Did you know there is a Website devoted to Scythes? Wiki sure is amazing.

Scythe = useless as a weapon against a trained enemy IRL - there are two possible attacks to make with them, an all their emphasis relies on a single point - first swing misses, they're too close to you for you to be able to respond.
This is why despite the abundance of scythes IRL the were rarely used in an army except by conscript peasants who couldn't get any better.
As for ludicrously sized weapons, I just wince.
