Couple of questions about disarm:

1) when it says "Disarm: Hit" and doesn't disarm something, are they resisting it with discipline or strength or something?

2) What are the rules about disarming other players in PvP? I imagine stealing people's weapons is griefing, and I guess it opens a can of worms when someone's weapon is lying on the ground, re: server crashes, rubber-necking opportunists, etc. Wondering if there's some set protocol about using disarm on other players (in legitimate and consensual PvP of course.)

1. Yes, resisted with a discipline check, OR you didn't do damage. (not sure abotu this, but pritty sure that if you don't deal damage, you dont' disarm)

2. When I've seen disarm used, the person who disarms picks up the weapon so that incase crashes it doesn't disappear.. it's ofcourse given back.. but I think it should be possible to edit the script or something, so the weapon appears in your (or the target's ) inventory.

Don't disarm shifters with the epic drow form and pick up the weapon. Just don't..

Not all spawns can be disarmed, for whatever reason.

Because of crashes, it's really best not to use Disarm in PvP, unfortunately.

As Ruce says: If you plan on Disarming, get a DM to verify the weapon, in case you drop it, and lose it.

Alternatively, if you're a DM, you're allowed to take Disarm, because you can berify your opponent's weapon pre fight.

Short story: Disarm is super super evil. >.>

*Shrugs* It's become kind of a running gag that Lomir steals Klagges' staff when he's being very irritating. So, it's prettey much a similar situation to disarm. Anyway, all he does is put the staff away and not equip it again til he gets it back. This is obviously OOC, but it helps to avoid lag and makes sure they don't lose their weapon.

Can we just have a script put in so that the following happens:
- Successful Disarm puts the weapon directly into the owner's inventory.
- That particular weapon has a cooldown time before it can be used again (To simulate picking up the weapon, etc.)

That way you get rid of the possible loss of the weapon, and you don't make the feats totally useless.

that still could hurt people who have very full inventories, with them expecting to have it droppd in and then it not being there anymore.

Maybe so, but atleast it would reduce the amount that people drop their weapons from it, and like i suggested in another topic, would it hurt to clear your inventory some or get some Magic bags?

I always thought Disarm puts the weapon in your inventory on Amia. Little do I know about mechanics. :(

* Many NPC characters are not disarmable for reasons of balance and module-economy.
* If an NPC is wielding an undroppable weapon when successfully disarmed, the weapon goes to the NPC's inventory, not to the ground.
* Creature weapons for purposes of disarming count as the same size as the creature.
* While unarmed, a disarm attempt will count any weapon as equal size. Therefore, the attack modifier is -6 whether the weapon being disarmed is a (tiny) dagger or a (large) greatsword.
* A successful disarm while unarmed will sometimes place the disarmed weapon directly in the disarmer's inventory instead of dropping it on the ground. This can be changed via scripting, however.
* A monk using circle kick and flurry of blows can disarm two opponents in the same round, if they are adjacent. When the first opponent is hit, circle kick will target the other enemy for the next attack. During that same round, on the next flurry of attacks, a disarm will hit the opponent targeted by circle kick.

That sums it up pretty well. Personally I don't do it because I can't be arsed to nudge a DM for it, neither could I live with myself if I managed to lose someone's weapon.

This can in fact be scripted quite easily if I recall, but I think a suggestion earlier was to place a cooldown on the weapon to be re-used.. I'm not sure if that's possible or not.

i'm sure that you can script something that applies a temporary property on the disarmed weapon of like -15 AB for like 1 round or somethin.

Or it could be left as is and just put the weapon into the inventory back instead of on the ground, without destroying the feat.

If there's not enough rom in your inventory for your wepon, how does it get sheathed? I can't imagine there's many people only holding their weapon because of full inventory.

It doesn't, that'd be when it drops to the floor, as other belongings usually do when you unequip them into a full inventory. =/ If people don't even have enough room in their own inventory for their weapon, then I'd say that's their own fault for being lazy and not cleaning it up slightly.

When I've performed a disarm in PvM the animation clearly shows that the creature puts the weapon away. Against other players, including creatures that use disarm, the weapon drops. Why the discrepancy? It would be nice to have commonality between characters and monsters as far as game mechanics are concearned. As far as running around with a full inventory, meh, bags are plentiful in Amia, and there's even several places to store items....

However, it would also be nice to be able to disarm (Literally) those pesky monks, and bone arm types. And if you are a known dev critter, expect intelligent adversaries to attempt to even the odds and disarm you.

lol. I do agree it should be the same, but the reason it's set that way for monsters is so the economy doesn't inflate far more than it has. Go disarm a few fire giants, pick up their weapons and sell them, and boom goes economy. We're not allowed to sell player's weapons unfortunately.. I learnt that about 2 years ago. >.>

I've only just recently started a character with the disarm feat and I haven't used it in PvP yet. Good thing this popped up or else I might have felt pretty bad.

Yet, it doesn't make much sense for someone with the disarm feat to not use it. Especially as was said before, against a known dev crit'er. What's the easiest way to prevent a dev crit? Take the weapon away. Makes perfect sense. Maybe if we all scream "Disco help!" at the same time, we can get a script tossed in real quick that'll at least put the weapon into the person's inventory if they're disarmed.

Getting a DM to verify the weapon is all nice and good and in theory would work perfectly, but what about those times that a DM isn't on or doesn't have the time to pop over and take a quick look?

For the times I play the DM count is 0 for a vast majority of time. The rest of the time there's 2-4 more than the times there's 1 or > 4.

And that's just Amia A

The problem is people with full inventories still lose their weapon, and then they complain.
Personally, I think it best it goes to the inventory with a 6-second cooldown on use of the weapon., although this doesn't give you the AoO you would otherwise get when they run to get it.
An those with full inventories .... their problem.

Exactly. How in the heck do people without any room in their inventory sheath their weapon, anyhow? If you don't have enough room in your inventory to sheath your weapon, then odds are you're probably in need of pruning your packrat ways back a bit anyways and losing that favorite weapon may just teach you a lesson.

As for the cooldown... well, that would be a cool idea and I'd love to see it implemented at some point, but just getting a weapon-to-inventory-on-case-of-disarm would be an awesome start.

Disarming someone while you're Unarmed if I recall, can put your opponent's weapon into your hands.. It's quite interesting.

Can you not try and get another ability butchered? Especially one that is extremely useful as is in combat and a nice alternative to KD spamming?

It's to try and stop the "Ha! Knocked your weapon out of your hand! Oh look, reset! Bye-bye epic loot!"
Being dumped into your inventory with a cooldown changes only the location the weapon falls to, doesn't allow them to regain it any faster or anything.

I was referring more to the fact you miss out on the AoO's, the time it also takes for the person to realise their weapon's gone and they have to bend over and pick it up, then re-equip it. (Or if they're a smarter fighter, pull out a second weapon and use that instead.)

That's anywhere between 6-15 seconds of downtime, and AoOs, aswell as a harmless opponent.

Giving the weapon a 6 second cooldown is simply turning a very nice feat, into absolute trash. Why would I not just take Imp Knockdown if I wanted them out for a round?

(And no, it's not to swipe it.. I did that once in the past, albeit gave it back, but yeah the repercussions weren't pleasant.)

Yurell wrote:

Find a way to remove it from their hotbar aswell after it's disarmed, and then yes, it'll be almost as it is now, and I wouldn't care so much.

Like I said in another topic, instead of leaving the exploitable mechanic in and punishing for its use, I'd sooner simply remove the exploitable mechanic.

Remove the capability to dual-wield weapons, if you switch them constantly using the hotbar, you get free attacks with your highest AB.

Remove shapeshifting/polymorphs, you can send your temp HP into the thousands (or more, if you're really that bored) with a particular exploit.

I can name several others if you like. You don't -remove- things because you don't like them, you attempt to fix them instead.

Er, you mean Disarm..? It's not possible to dump the weapons in their inventory instead?

Quoted from the Wiki. That's the perfect alternative. Place it in the inventory, and remove it from quickslots, thus they still have the trouble of manually re-equipping it again.

Yes, but that's a script that needs to be applied to the area itself. Disco was perfectly happy to do this for the FGK's throneroom, but I'd advise donning some kind of beakproof suit of armour before sugegsting he goes and adds it manually to all 600 areas.

Also, as people who have found uberloot weapons from the FGK and tired to show them to the party can attest, it's impossible to barter weapons in such an area.

Haha.. Fair enough, I wasn't aware it needed to be done on a per-area basis rather than a global script (if there is such a thing.. My ability with the builder is average at best. ._. I make shiny items and difficult mobs..)

I would still suggest finding an alternative to simply removing the skill. Have there honestly been that many complaints about people permanently losing their weapons to disarm or something that it's become an issue? - From what I've noticed, there's a -tiny- handful of people on the server that use disarm, as it's not quite something you can take -aswell- as IKD without molesting your build a bit.

It's a nice ability, and surprises the hell out of people when they don't just get the same old cookie cutter KD spam thrown at them and don't know how to react.

I don't think it should be removed. It is a decent feat.

If it is removed, what are you going to dump on whips instead, Knockdown? What about all those rebuilds?
I just don't think it should be removed.

Also, as people who have found uberloot weapons from the FGK and tired to show them to the party can attest, it's impossible to barter weapons in such an area.

Ahh... all this time I just thought it was an nwn inventory bug.

But anyways this is a troublesome feat... an unfair feat that makes its victims possibly lose their weapon permanently and the same time very hard to fix...

Where can one buy a beakproof plate?

I don't think it should be removed. It is a decent feat.

If it is removed, what are you going to dump on whips instead, Knockdown? What about all those rebuilds?
I just don't think it should be removed.

Well in PnP Whips do Trip which is Knockdown in NWN, so thats rather fitting.

I dont think it should be removed either though

Like I said in another topic, instead of leaving the exploitable mechanic in and punishing for its use, I'd sooner simply remove the exploitable mechanic.

I'm glad you're not my doctor. By that reasoning, I could see a trip to see you going,

Me: I think I broke my finger and it kinda hurts, Dr. Tormak.
Tormak: No problem... just let me get my hacksaw and we'll take care of that offending finer in a jiffy.

When something isn't working right you don't just remove it and I'm seeing a disturbing trend of late calling for things to just be removed. How long has Amia been up and running now? Around 5 years at least, right? If Disarm was really that much of an exploit why wasn't it removed years ago? I think it's a perfectly viable feat and should be kept.

*checks wiki* Bah, it's hardcoded. All you can do is remove it.

Besides why take away a feat that can give the non-Strength builds a chance against Dev criters. Been disarmed by the fire giant king, learned that since it can happen, to be better prepared and pay attention. I always thought that was what Rolling with the Punches was all about, living and learning. But maybe it should be I was stupid and not paying attention and lost my uber weapon, so I'll just throw a fit and ruin everyone else's day.

Like I stated earlier, having a common effect, that is making the disarmed weapon return to your inventory like it does for creatures is the best solution. But to say that the disarm feat is unfair in play? To who? And I'm sorry, but I'm not telling you I'm going to disarm you before the fight. And if that's going to be the way it goes, then I should be warned before every instance of being Dev crited, Paralyzing touched, hellballed, greater ruined, finger of deathed, knocked down, death touched, stunning fisted, power attacked, or generally glared at.....

A related question:

If an orc basher successfully disarms a PC, does it put the weapon on the floor too?

If so, doesn't this go against the idea of making players tell a DM that they intend to disarm a weapon in case the player loses it (possibly for good)?
