Moonweed, said to be used to prevent unwanted pregnancy in the realms.
Gers mentioned that a NPC in Cordor has that info on a random scripted convo and that he used it once IC when surprising a couple that were in a very... well... hot moment. Moonweed isn't in any sourcebook I can find. I think it was just a name made up, myself. *shrug* However....page 96 of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting -does- have two herbs that are used as contraceptives in Faerun: cassil and narraroot. There's a PC in Amia who has access to moonweed for those who might be looking for it... Obviously it's not FR, but there are quite a few herbs that were used iRL as contraceptives or abortifacients. Try Googling 'medieval contraceptives' or something similar.

This may have been asked before, but I couldnt find it.. How does Amia view shifters? Does a shifter that has only the min druid levels still have to strongly adhere to druid RP, or are they allowed some leniency? A good example is undead form.. druids despise undead.

All Druids can shapeshift but not all Shifters are Druids, if that makes sense. A Shifter-that-is-a-Druid can still fall.

If a druid falls, do they retain their druid abilities? ie pet summon
I understand how a druid can be a shifter, but a shifter doesnt have to be a druid. However, NWN makes it so.. so -_-

Everyone knows what a satyr is. Sometimes they're interchangeable with fauns, but a faun is actually a different creature according to Deities and Demigods. However, Monster Manual 3.5 states that satyrs are sometimes known as fauns. Is there any information on these things elsewhere?
I also remember hinds--basically "female satyrs" except with deer features instead of goat features, but now I cannot find anything on those whatsoever. I even remember the art for them, but they don't appear to exist in any form in any of the sourcebooks.
Someone find this stuff and prove I'm not crazy.

The only FR reference I've found is in Elves of Evermeet:Quote: Fauns A small band of these fun-loving creatures inhabits the forests of Evermeet. Again, the elves feel respect and fondness for the fauns, and often join them in their sylvan ceremonies. The elves are aware of the rumors regarding fauns and dryads (that they mate to produce more fauns and dryads), but do not wish to pry into these beings personal lives. The fauns worship the god Damh and invoke his name in their exuberant religious festivities. Other sylvan species such as pixies, centaurs, and especially dryads also participate in these rites. During the Faerieluck celebration (the same one in which I gained such painful bruises), I noted that several fauns were present, laughing, dancing, and capering with the best of the elves. I was unable to actually meet one of these unusual creatures, but I was overjoyed at even the simple opportunity to observe them at a distance. I've assumed they're one and the same. Monster Manual and Deities & Demigods are both core, so they might be invalid in FR. Though honestly, monsters have been changed and retconned about twice an edition, it seems. So I wouldn't worry about it too much, and just go with whatever has the most culture/history/world-related lore. Fauns obviously are part of Evermeet's population and probably took part in its defence against recent attacks, so it's safe to say that they at least exist. I used the satyr model for a Winyan faun NPC, too, but I think it may have been used interchangeably with satyr in later posts about the population.

Yeah, that's basically just replaced the word "satyr" with "faun" which is how it is in classical mythology anyways. The issue at hand now is whether or not satyrs can only be male, or if there are female counterparts. Fauns (Deities&Demigods) can be male or female, but satyrs are always presented as male, and hinds (which still elude me information wise) were always female.

I would imagine that these "hinds" are much like satyrs. The difference might be equivalent to that of an Androsphinx and a Gynosphix or an Incubus and a Succubus. Just guessing here, I have seen absolutely no references about them and haven't the faintest clue of where to look. The above quote from EoE does have one important line to shed light on this, though it's potentially moot if another source says there are female fauns: Quote: The elves are aware of the rumors regarding fauns and dryads (that they mate to produce more fauns and dryads), but do not wish to pry into these beings personal lives. It seems the author of this book was of the opinion that FR fauns were male and dryads female, and their offspring were one or the other. That's what I'd personally stick to, since it fits in with everything we know about the ways of the two races, and we don't know of a single female faun or male dryad.

I believe Deities and Demigods might be a bit outdated (possibly 3.0) but it presents fauns as: Quote: FAUN Medium-Size Fey Hit Dice: 1d6 (4 hp) Initiative: +5 (+1 Dex, +4 Improved Initiative) Speed: 30 ft. AC: 13 (+1 Dex, +2 leather) Attacks: Shortspear +0 melee; or shortbow +1 ranged Damage: Shortspear 1d6; shortbow 1d6 Face/Reach: 5 ft. by 5 ft./5 ft. Special Qualities: Faun traits Saves: Fort +0, Ref +3, Will +1 Abilities: Str 11, Dex 12, Con 10, Int 11, Wis 9, Cha 8 Skills: Bluff +2, Diplomacy +2, Hide +7, Knowledge (nature) +3, Listen +3, Move Silently +7, Perform +3*, Spot +3, Wilderness Lore +5 Feats: Improved Initiative Climate/Terrain: Any forest Organization: Solitary, troupe (2–12), or band (15–60) Challenge Rating: 1/2 Treasure: Standard Alignment: Usually chaotic neutral Advancement: By character class Fauns are a race of woodland-dwelling humanoids that dwell in lands where the Olympian deities are worshiped. They are closely related to satyrs; in fact, some suspect that fauns are a result of cross-breeding between satyrs and humans or perhaps elves.
Fauns are essentially human in shape, standing nearly 6 feet high, with bestial-looking faces, flowing manes of hair (including beards on the males), and short, goatlike tails. They do not favor clothing, but they will wear it in their dealings with humans. Instead, they paint their bodies with natural colors, especially bright reds and striking blacks that contrast with their light brown complexions. They have no horns. Fauns speak Sylvan and Common.
Combat Fauns dislike combat and avoid it when possible. They have no misguided notions of courage or honor that would interfere with fleeing from a dangerous foe. They are not cowardly; they simply do not fight if it is not necessary. Faun Traits (Ex): Fauns benefit from a number of racial traits. • Low-light vision. • Musical Ability: When a faun uses a magic flute or set of pipes, including pipes of haunting, pipes of pain, pipes of the sewers, or pipes of sounding, the saving throw DC for any effect of the item is increased by +2. In addition, a faun character with the Use Magic Device skill can use a satyr’s pipes to create the magical effects that satyrs produce on the pipes. The check DC is the same as for emulating a race, DC 25. • Musical Resistance: Fauns receive a +2 bonus on saving throws made to resist musical effects, including sonic spells, bardic music, Otto’s irresistible dance, and the effects of magical pipes, harps, lyres, and other instruments. Skills: Fauns receive a +2 racial bonus on Hide, Move Silently, and Wilderness Lore checks, and a +4 racial bonus on Perform checks made while playing flutes or pipes.
Faun Society Fauns are native to pastoral settings such as pleasant woodlands and quiet groves. They live in loose bands with no government or hierarchy. They often associate with satyrs, centaurs, dryads, and nymphs. Unlike satyrs, fauns are amenable to interaction with human society; they are not as xenophobic as their cousins are. Indeed, they are somewhat intrigued by the nuances of human culture, particularly accomplishments in philosophy and the arts, and they strive to imitate human culture even when they do not have extensive contact with it.
Faun Characters Fauns’ favored class is bard. Faun clerics worship Dionysus or Pan. This is, of course, almost exactly what satyrs are. If it weren't for the references to satyrs in the text itself you could swap them out almost perfectly. Of course, this makes more sense, since they're rumored to be related, but... whatevz.

She more than tolerates them. She shows them as manifestations, which means she favors them even.
In fact, all but one of the Gods of Fury have shown favor toward the undead at some point in FR lore. The exception being Malar. Talos, Umberlee and Auril have all been shown to favor undead. Auril we've mentioned already, Umberlee likes sea-dwelling undead and Talos has sponsored Liches and was allied with Velsharoon. I've never once heard anything of Malar favoring the undead though.

A vampire is an example of a sentient, intelligent, predatory creature--a huge step above generic zombies, skeletons, and ghouls. Malar would probably be okay with making an exception for such a creature because doing so in that context was well within his portfolio. He certainly couldn't send in his priests, so he used a person who could wage the war on urban soil. In this case, being undead took a backburner because Count Chocula was the perfect tool for the job.
I don't think I've ever read anything about Malar being anti-undead, but considering that he is a hardcore nature deity, albeit a savage and cruel one, he is probably not very enthused about their existence. Obviously I think he'd allow them to work for him under certain circumstances but I doubt he would permit their presence/creation for any extended amount of time.

Does Druids of Auril exist? I mean... Would they work? Because, as i see it ... Druids are the Anti-Undead Police whatever deity you worship. But according to FR Wiki, Druids, avariels, elemental archons (air or water), fey, frost giants, inhabitants of cold climates, rangers, spriggans, winter hags Worship her.

She's a deity of a natural force, it does stand to some reason (although Druids wouldn't be as likely to be accepting of Undead).

Yes, Druids of Auril exist. Would they tolerate undeath even though their god does? Considering Druids stand against undeath, I would say no way in hell. But her acceptance of undeath as a deity is what makes the issue difficult. It's a bit like when you make a Paladin of a god like Hoar or Jergal: very tough to pull off. I imagine there would be inner conflict within her clergy because of the Cleric vs. Druid thing concerning undeath. Think of it like the relationship between Kelemovites and Jergali. Jergal allows undeath to be used for his cause, while Kelemvor allows no undead, ever ever, at all, fornever.

New question: I cannot find much mention of "Amia Forest" in the lore section. Is there a compiled info sheet on the forest? I would like to know the following, as well as any other information generally available: Does any faction claim part or all of the forest as territory? If so, which faction and where can I read about them? How hostile is the forest? In terms of predator attacks along roads, as well as reported banditry. Are there any agreements in place between factions concerning the forest (and are public knowledge)? Any lore, history, etc as well would be great. Please and thank you.

Hence why I asked only for public knowledge. And if there is no actual book with information ingame, I am curious where, other than the forums, I should look? Many IC things (laws, treatises, histories) are posted here. Is something wrong with asking for the IC information available in a library on the forest when similar data for many places already exists on the forums? If you're going to tell me to "find all of it out IG", please don't respond and eat up thread space. I'd rather it be ignored than have those kind of responses.

It doesn't make it any easier that Oakmist Vale/Grove whilst completely open to the public (or very nearly) is a hidden faction board from a faction that only seems to wax when the DM's threaten to shut down the faction (at least from my perspective, this may be completely untrue since I haven't had access to those forums in 6 months). I've suggested in the past moving the Groves Board to the Realms/Cities/Areas of Amia and changing its name to the Amian Forests and making it open, but that idea was knocked flat. I guess I'm suggesting it again now.

I have another Maztica question. Hope no one minds! <.<Since Maztica was adopted into the setting and there's a solid entry about it in the Lands of Intrigue sourcebook (assuming that's good to use as a source regarding it), I wanted to know if the DMs would think certain Faerunian deities are capable of showing favor in Maztica. Like, for example ( ) if a Mystran priestess went there, could she cast her spells, or would they have left her like it was suggested they would in such places as Chult because Mystra doesn't extend her reach that far. I've done extensive research on Maztica, but I haven't seen anything that would suggest the powers were gone. There's a city called Helmsport that was founded by Helmites, but I haven't found any mention of their god's favor being unable to reach them or anything. What do you guys think?

Yes. If you are in the sphere of influence of another pantheon, you can still receive spells from your deity (according to Faiths and Avatars).

I'd noticed that, too, but I remember someone mentioning that it might be a problem in certain places. I just wanted to make sure before I go having my priestess casting stuff.

This isn't because Mystra can't "reach" there--it's because the gods specifically agreed to stay out of Chult because of Ubtao, who is basically playing guard-dinosaur-dog-god to keep out the Night Serpent who could destroy existence and also the other gods. And Ubtao said unto the gods of man and beast, "Stay the fuck out of my jungle you prissy twats."

Aye, but there are so many cooler Maztica Gods! Why would you pray to a sissy Faerun god?!?!?

A few questions about Shelgarn's persistent blade. I can't find anything about it in DnD, so I assume it's a NWN-specific spell. Firstly, wouldn't it technically count as Conjuration, not Evocation, as the caster is creating a magical dagger? Secondly, is it to be interpreted as the user "animating" a dagger? If so, I guess that would technically make it Transmutation...*banks head on the table* Damn you Bioware! So in other words... what does the spell...actually... do IC? >_> If one goes by WYSIWYG, it summons a magical dagger from somewhere that goes back to somewhere else when its finished.

In the books I've read the spell componets were a miniture dagger. I always figured it was like enchantment or something.

Meh. I figure it's one of those things best left up to the caster then, since Bioware can't get their act straight on it.
Another nit-picky one, any DM's got anything against saying Flare can start a fire? As in like lighting some tender or flammable material on fire.

Flare makes light, not heat. The spell specifies this. Quote: This cantrip creates a burst of light. If you cause the light to burst directly in front of a single creature, that creature is dazzled for 1 minute unless it makes a successful Fortitude save. Sightless creatures, as well as creatures already dazzled, are not affected by flare.
